CANDOR Week - Pam Bachorz Interview Continued

Today is the end of our CANDOR Week. Be sure to check out our contest which doesn't end until midnight PST today and it is open to Forum Members only. The contest prize is a FREE COPY of CANDOR and it's so easy, join up and enter, here.

And now, the remaining portion of our Q&A with Pam Bachorz.

Q. Is there any one dys/utopian book that you would point to as an influence for CANDOR?
Pam Bachorz. Hmmm. Well I have always adored Shirley Jackson's short story "The Lottery". The people in that story will sacrifice even their own children in exchange for something "bigger". And in a way that is what the parents in Candor, Florida do. They sacrifice their children's individuality in exchange for a narrow ideal--really, one man's definition of perfection.

Q. If you could write a Message for yourself, what would it be?
Pam Bachorz. Slow down and enjoy life. It's a good thing to take a break every once and awhile!

Q. Can you tell us a little bit about the story you are working on now?
Pam Bachorz. I've just submitted a YA to Egmont USA that's nothing to do with CANDOR... although it does take place in another secluded, twisted community. It's darker than CANDOR, I think, and the main character is a girl who must choose between freedom and the community who literally relies on her to stay alive. While I wait for editorial feedback on that, I'm cooking up another idea that takes place in an alternate universe that is quite the opposite of Candor, Florida.

Q. When will that title be published?
Pam Bachorz. Hopefully my next one will be published in Fall of 2010.

Many thanks to Pam for being available to answer Mundie Moms' questions on our Forum. Feel free to look through them here and remember there's still time to ask more questions. I love the answers Pam's given about her writing process and how CANDOR as a story developed over time.

Also, be sure to check out Pam's website which is chock full of CANDOR insight. And check out her publisher, EgmontUSA, they have some intriguing new releases including Bree Despain's The Dark Divine coming out soon.
