Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she’s made it out of the bloody arena alive, she’s still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Who do they think should pay for the unrest? Katniss. And what’s worse, President Snow has made it clear that no one else is safe either. Not Katniss’s family, not her friends, not the people of District 12. Powerful and haunting, this thrilling final installment of Suzanne Collins’s groundbreaking The Hunger Games trilogy promises to be one of the most talked about books of the year.

Catching Fire left me in shock, and Mockingjay just wowed me. I'm not sure how else to describe it. Mockingjay takes us right into war, and it's not pretty, but when is war ever pretty!?! Suzanne Collins does a brilliant job at bringing to life a darker world with the ugliness of war, the politics, the lies, the suffering and yes, even the small glimmer of hope that comes from a movement backed by a few people, called rebels.

Mockingjay isn't a light-hearted read. It's the darkest of the trilogy that has my mind still reeling from the events, the revelations and what's really been happening during the span of the entire series and it's "games". Put your seat belt on and be prepared for surprises, revelations, anguish, triumph, raw emotion, heartbreak, "YES!" moments, bittersweet moments, and an end that left me feeling that Katniss's story was complete.

Mockingjay wraps up the Hunger Games trilogy with love and loss, triumph and destruction, and every emotion in between there. Where many characters would curl up in the fetal possession and give up, Katniss's inner strength carries her on in the face of so much turmoil. Mockingjay will be talked about and discussed for a long time. It's thought provoking and emotional. While Mockingjay gave me answers, I was also left thinking about what I read days after I finished the book.

If you enjoyed The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, wait until you read Mockingjay! If you haven't already, be sure to go pick up your copy today!!!

  1. Not sure what happened but UPS says they aren't going to deliver mine until tomorrow. :( Oh well, one more day!

Thanks for posting a great non-spoiler review. I've been avoiding almost ANY mention of this book today (which has been hard!! haha) because I don't want to know anything before I read it myself.

  3. This book ripped my heart out. Plain and simple :(

I loved it though and was (mostly, kind of) pleased with the ending!

  4. While reading Mockingjay I laughed, I shouted at the book, and ultimately I cried.
I'm still trying to get over the ending. I can't listen to my ipod cuz some songs remind me of characters that died and things that happened in all three books - which makes me cry even more!!
Now I just have to keep my rantings to myself because my dad and little sister haven't finished Mockingjay yet. It's hard trying to be quiet when you're upset.

  5. I was surprised as I didn't cry at all. I think I had excepted some of the things to happen. The ending for me, was perfect, in the way it ended for Katniss. I don't think it would have fit the story or the series if it ended any differently. They're broken people, in a broken society. War isn't pretty and it leaves many scars and it changes people. It's that change, that was heartbreaking to read about it.

  6. I don't think I have ever, ever cried so much at a single book. I loved the first two but Mockingjay was something else. Everytime I thought I had it figured out, somebody would die or be hurt and I found myself screaming and crying and feeling Katniss' shock as it was my own. I can't decide if I liked the ending or not, I was crying so much the pages were starting to swim by the end, and I am so not ready to reread it yet. The series was amazing but Mockingjay is one of the most heartbreaking, soul destroying and crushing books I have ever read. It is also the one that gives me the most hope.
