Helping the People of Haiti

This has pulled at our hearts, as I'm sure it's pulled at many of yours. The devastation that has happened in Haiti hasn't spared anyone. The hardest thing to watch is the children who have been badly injured and have lost their parents.

It breaks our hearts to see so many injured people and we wanted to do something to help. While we can't hop the next plane to go to Haiti and help, as we really would do that in a heart beat if we could, we thought we could help spread the word about giving donations.

The economy is bad and money is tight, but even donating $2 or $5 goes a long way when thousands of people are without anything. No clothes, no water, no food, no blankets, no medicine etc.

In researching the best places to donate to, The Red Cross is the best one we could find. Here's what that they said, "There has been an outpouring of support from the public. To help, people can make an unrestricted donation to the International Response Fund at www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767). The public can also help by texting “Haiti” to 90999 to send a $10 donation to the Red Cross, through an effort backed by the U.S. State Department. Funds will go to support American Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti." (taken from

Here's the link for Red Cross, http://www.redcross.org/

They've also posted this video on their site:

This is also a great link to find places to donate to:

*Here's a great article about the $2M that's already been raised for The Red Cross via text messages http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/01/13/1-million-in-donations-for-haiti-via-text-message/

Chat with Saundra Mitchell

Join us for our chat with Saundra Mitchell on Tuesday, January 19th at 9pm EST and escape the cold wintry weather with a discussion about hot, haunted Southern Summers. Check out our review of her ghostly tale, Shadowed Summer. Also, look at all the reviews on Shadowed Summer blog not to mention the helpful advice and just plain fun on Saundra's own blog.

Perhaps, we'll even get a glimpse into her next novel, Vespertine.

Now brave the weather and read the book this week just in time for our chat. The Chat link will be posted on the blog next Tuesday.
