Jill Jekel has always obeyed her parents’ rules – especially the one about never opening the mysterious, old box in her father’s office. But when her dad is murdered, and her college savings disappear, she's tempted to peek inside, as the contents might be key to a lucrative chemistry scholarship.

To better her odds, Jill enlists the help of gorgeous, brooding Tristen Hyde, who has his own dark secrets locked away. As the team of Jekel and Hyde, they recreate experiments based on the classic novel, hoping not only to win a prize, but to save Tristen’s sanity. Maybe his life. But Jill’s accidental taste of a formula unleashes her darkest nature and compels her to risk everything – even Tristen’s love – just for the thrill of being… bad.

*Spoiler Free* I really enjoyed reading the book and I loved the modern spin the Beth Fantaskey gave Jekel and Hyde. It was dark, twisty and has a good love story mixed into it. I like that for most of the book, I was caught up in the story of Jill and Tristen that I felt I couldn't read the pages fast enough to see what happens next.

Both Jill and Tristen are drawn together, and each of them harbors a dark secret that can both destroy them and each other. What both of them also have, is the cure to help each other. Both must reply on the other to help them fight the darker sider they both try so hard to hide. It's not going to be easy, as both of their parents hold the key to the cure they need. Filled with some unexpected plot twists, I liked the direction the story takes.

What pulled me through the story was Tristen and Jill's chemistry. It was amazing as they both battled their own darker sides and through that battle they sealed their love for one another as they faced their weaknesses together.

I really liked the history that goes back with both families. While Beth gave the story a wonderful modern day spin of it's own, she also gave the story a rich history that involves both the Jekel and Hyde families. There's secrets that both families harbor, like who killed Tristen's mother and Jill's father. One character totally surprised me on how involved in the story they really were. Tristen in his own right is one character I think many people will really like. If you like modern day retellings with a good plot twist, than this is a must read for you.
