Thoughtful Thursday - National Poetry Month

For this week's Thoughtful Thursday, we're going to focus on National Poetry Month which starts today. National Poetry Month was started by American Academy of Poets in 1996 as a way to focus our attention on the art of poetry. As Mundie Moms, we think that this is a wonderful way to celebrate the richness of the art and it's ability to sustain itself throughout the centuries.

During the month of April be sure to check out some of our favorite publishers, like Scholastic, who are celebrating poetry. Business and non-profits are involved as well so keep an eye on your local bookstores and coffee shops for poetry readings in your area.

Also be sure to check out some fun interactive features like Poem In Your Pocket Day which is celebrated on April 29th or Poem Flow for iPhones.

We encourage you to celebrate with us this month. If you don't feel like writing a poem then perhaps buy a book of poetry from your favorite bookstore or check one out of your local library. If you have children, though, we encourage you to practice writing poetry with them. Kids have a natural affinity for this art.

Now I'm off to peruse the Vampire Poems section here. Who knew? And oh, perhaps a poem about The Mortal Instruments Simon is in order??
