IMPORTANT Mockingjay Announcement

We at District 11 would like to kindly remind everyone about the announcement that Suzanne Collins gave this past week regarding Mockingjay:

"One of the most important things to me is that everyone in the world is going to be able to experience the final book of The Hunger Games all at the same time, and be able to discover what happens in the book without hearing about it elsewhere first. Word will certainly travel fast, but I urge you – before or immediately after August 24th – to please respect the other Hunger Games fans worldwide and avoid sharing any spoilers, so that the conclusion of Katniss’s story can unfold for each reader the way it was meant to unfold."

Now you know what happens to those who break the rules during the games... *coughs* Kidding, but please be respectful and don't ruin the book for those who don't want to be spoiled, and well that would be a lot of people.

Don't miss our District 11 blog stop on the 25th. Did we mention there's a giveaway too!?!

Mundane Monday #46

Happy Monday! Here's a teaser you guys have all been waiting for.... I'll warn you, it might cause you to-
A) re-read it numerous time
B) go and pre-order your copy right now
C) scream like a fan girl that you just read a hot Jace & Clary scene (oh and there will be more to this excerpt next week) Wait, did we leave out that they're in an elevator?!?
D) all of the above

"Don't be sorry." There was a ragged edge to his words that surprised her. "Jocelyn doesn't want you to turn out like me. I don't blame her for that."

"Jace," she said, a little bewildered by the bitterness in his voice, "are you all right?"

Instead of answering, he kissed her, pulling her hard against him. His body pressed hers against the wall, the metal of the mirror cold against her back, his hands sliding around her waist. She always loved the way he held her. Careful, but not too gentle, not so gentle that she ever felt he was more in control than she was. Neither of them could control how they felt about each other and she liked that, liked the way his heart hammered against hers, liked the way he murmured against her mouth when she kissed him back.

-City of Fallen Angels teasers, from City Of Glass paperback, Jace & Clary

To celebrate hitting 1,000 followers we're giving away 1 copy of the newly released City of Glass, paperback with the CWA and COFA excerpts. We are planning on getting it SIGNED when we see Cassie next month on the Smart Chicks Tour.

*For some reason the form won't let you select more than one option. Please add up your points and just add them to the "add up all your entry points" spot. Thank you!!

Mundie Kids Week in Reviews

This past week on Mundie Kids we've had the chance to read some great Tween books. Don't miss our reviews for them and enter our first Mundie Kids giveaway here

Read our 3.5 stars review for Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce
Liam has always felt a bit like he's stuck between two worlds. This is primarily because he's a twelve year old kid who looks like he's about thirty. Sometimes it's not so bad, like when his new principal mistakes him for a teacher on the first day of school or when he convinces a car dealer to let him take a Porsche out on a test drive. But mostly it's just frustrating, being a kid trapped in an adult world. And so he decides to flip things around. Liam cons his way onto the first spaceship to take civilians into space, a special flight for a group of kids and an adult chaperone, and he is going as the adult chaperone. It's not long before Liam, along with his friends, is stuck between two worlds again-only time he's 239,000 miles from home. http://tinyurl.com/2evvj6j

Read our 5 star review for The Familiars, by Adam Epstein and Andrew Jacobson.

The fate of the kingdom is in the paws of an ordinary alley cat- and the result is pure magic.

Meet Aldwyn as the scrappy orphan cat runs right into the biggest adventure of his life. Chosen by Jack, a young wizard in training, to be his familiar, Aldwyn's biggest challenge seems to be convincing the two other familiars-the know it all blue jay Sklyar and the friendly tree frog Gregory-that he, too, has magical powers. Then the unthinkable happens. Jack and his fellow wizard apprentices are captured by the evil queen of Vastia- and the familiars must save them!

At once fresh and familiar, this brilliant fantasy adventure-an irresistible blend of real heart, edge of your seat action, and laugh out loud humor-shows that friendship and courage come in many forms.

Mini Book Review- Bright Young Things

By Anna Godbersen
Published by HarperTeen
To Be Released on October 12th, 2010
4 Stars- I'll be picking this one up when it's out

Bright Young Things is the first in an epic four-book series about three teenage girls finding their way in the glittering metropolis of New York City and the glamorous mansions of Long Island. It’s 1929 and Letty Larkspur and Cordelia Grey have escaped their small Midwestern town to chase big dreams and even bigger secrets. In New York, they meet Astrid Donal, a flapper who has everything she could ever want, except for the one thing Letty and Cordelia have to offer—true friendship. Set in the dizzying summer before the market crash, against the vast lawns of the East End and on the blindingly lit stages of Broadway, the three girls will find romance, intrigue, and adventure. (taken from Goodreads)

The excerpt (1st seven chapters) for Bright Young Things completely had my attention and left me wanting more. I think this is going to the first in a great series, that is set in the 1920's New York. Anna introduces us to three unique girls, two of whom left their small town life behind to come to NY for two completely different reasons. I'm looking forward to seeing how their lives are going to be interwoven. So far there's been love, romance, heart ache, drama, adventure and a little bit of a twist. The setting and the era completely had me hooked and I'm looking forward to reading more about the roaring Twenties with all the glitz & glamor that came with it.
