4 stars- It's an enjoyable read

Beware of a kiss under the full moon. It will change your life forever.

Celeste Parker is used to hearing scary stories about werewolves—Legend's Run is famous for them. She's used to everything in the small town until Brandon Maddox moves to Legend's Run and Celeste finds herself immediately drawn to the handsome new student. But when, after an unnerving visit with a psychic, she encounters a pack of wolves and gorgeous, enigmatic Brandon, she must discover whether his transformation is more than legend or just a trick of the shadows in the moonlight.

Her best friends may never forgive her if she gives up her perfect boyfriend, Nash, for Brandon, who's from the wrong side of town. But she can't deny her attraction or the strong pull he has on her. Brandon may be Celeste's hero, or he may be the most dangerous creature she could encounter in the woods of Legend's Run.

Psychic predictions, generations-old secrets, a town divided, and the possibility of falling in love with a hot and heroic werewolf are the perfect formula for what happens . . . once in a full moon (quoted from Goodreads).

Once In A Full Moon is a fun, quick, enjoyable read.

Can I just say I really like the cover, but I really loved the details for each chapter with the moon, and the bare tree branches. I have been looking forward to reading Once In A Full Moon, as it's about werewolves, has a fun romantic aspect to it and it's written by Ellen Schreiber, who's writing I've heard great things about. I've heard mix feelings about the book, but I enjoyed it. It's a fun, light, quick read that I can sit down with on my down time and finish it in one sitting.

Celeste, the story's main character is someone I at times really liked and other times I wanted to tell her to wake up and make her own choices, and stop trying to do things she thinks people want her to do. She's a character who's very giving and is someone who thinks of other people, unlike some of her friends who are a bit more self-centered. Celeste comes at odds with herself when the new hot guy Brandon moves into town. Being from the "wrong side of town", Celeste is torn between wanting to be nice to him, and explore the connection she feels towards him, and live up to her reputation as one of the cool kids, though her thoughtfulness towards others doesn't always seem to fit in with their group.

It's not that I didn't like Celeste's friends, as they are loyal to her and they all accept her for who she is, but they are may more into the latest thing that's happening, and their jock boyfriends than Celeste is. I liked that Celeste spends time volunteering and a character I enjoyed getting to know is Mr Worthington, one of the elderly people Celeste spends time with at the local retirement home. I liked his telling of the werewolf myth that is been surrounding the tour of Legend's Run for generations. I really liked the other love interest, Brandon and not just because he's wolf. There's something about him that's alluring and that's all I can so about so I don't give too much away about him. I liked how Brandon and Celeste's relationship grew over the course of the story.

This is my first book to read by Ellen Schreiber and I really enjoyed her writing style and the unique werewolf story she's created. Her story resembles minor similarities to other YA books, but yet it holds it's own with how unique her wolf mythology is. I really enjoyed the history wrapped around her mythology. I really enjoyed the setting and the scenes that took place in the woods surrounding Legend's Run.

I'm really hoping there's a sequel as I can't wait to dive back into the world she's created. The cliff hanger at the end of Once in a Full Moon is both a satisfying end and leaves me wanting to know what will happen next. I would recommend picking this book to those 12 & older as this is a pretty clean cut fun read that fans of both Ellen's and werewolves will enjoy.

  1. I think I'm going to pick up this book just to read the mythology. Sounds very interesting. Thanks for the review, MMs!
