4.5 stars- I enjoyed it!

It's always been just Kate and her mom—and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear her mother won't live past the fall.

Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld—and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.

Kate is sure he's crazy—until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride, and a goddess (quoted from Goodreads).

Oh Hades! Aimee Carter has renewed my love for Greek Mythology. It wasn't hard for me to sit and devour this book in one setting. Not only did I find the world captivating, but I am a sucker for Hades and Persephone's story. It's not that I don't enjoy Greek mythology, because I do. For some reason I easily confuse myself with who's who and what's going on, so I tend to stay away from a lot of the Greek mythology books, but that wasn't the case with The Goddess Test. I'm completely in love with Aimee's spin on Greek mythology.

Kate is a wonderful character and heroine. She's a genuinely caring person, even to those who completely wrong her, which normally would have annoyed me, but it says a lot about her character and it helps her pass one of her tests. I liked how her personality is key to her ability to either pass or fail one or more of the Goddess tests. She's also someone who seeks answers and doesn't just sit by and accept things at face value. She was someone I could sympathize with as well. Oh Henry! What's not to like about this handsome, broken, God of the underworld. I was completely fascinated with Aimee's spin on Hades and how she was able to make him someone I could sympathize with. I loved the romance between Kate and Hades and the way their relationship develops. There's a few sizzling scenes between the two of them.

Aimee did a fantastic job with introducing the rest of the Gods and Goddesses and giving them all great character twists. So you don't get spoiled, do not look at the back of the book and read her Guide of Gods. The Goddess Test has a surprising easy mythology to follow and one I couldn't get enough of. It's unique, engaging and enjoyable. It was easy for me to get a clear picture of the world the book is set in. It's both in the real world and that of the in between. There's so much I would love to gush about that I enjoyed, but it's a little hard to do so and not giveaway anything away. Let me just say that Aimee did a wonderful job at bringing her Greek Mythology to life.

The Goddess Test is an alluring story, with a fascinating lore, and romance. I enjoyed every moment of this story and I'm really looking forward to the sequel, Goddess Interrupted. Go pick this book up!

  3. I enjoyed this one a great deal as well. I'm interested to see how the story progresses in book two. I fear for poor Henry's heart. :(
