Book Review/Blog Tour- Enclave

3.5 stars- It's a good read

New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20's. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters—or Freaks—who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. And when Deuce and Fade are exiled from the enclave, the girl born in darkness must survive in daylight, in the ruins of a city whose population has dwindled to a few dangerous gangs. As the two are guided by Fade’s long-ago memories, they face dangers, and feelings, unlike any they’ve ever known (quoted from Goodreads).

A dark, terrifying read set in a futuristic underworld, Enclave is a dystopian that will leave you with a vivid picture of what can happen after the world has dwelt with disaster and disease.

Set in underground NY, Deuce and her hunting partner Fade don't just deal with dangerous missions, freaks (the human eating monsters that liter the darkened tunnels), but they have to deal with what they're not being told from Silk and those who lead their Enclave. Uncovering those answers may get them killed. I really liked Deuce and Fade's characters. Deuce is someone who's had to prove she can be one of the best. She's worked hard to become a huntress and she's very good at what she does. Fade has always been the enclave outcast if you will, but this quiet, broken hunter knows something the rest of the enclave doesn't. Deuce and Fade together not only have a great chemistry, but they make a great team.

Enclave isn't a light fluffy read, well many dystopian reads aren't. Enclave is unique, as it's dark adventure, and constant plot twists make this dystopian read stand out on it's own. I'll admit Razorland isn't a place I'd ever want to visit, but it sets up the story so well and it gives readers a glimpse at just how resistant Deuce and Fade's characters are, as they constantly need to to learn to adapt to their changing environments in order to survive. The places themselves are like characters, dark, dangerous and full of deadly secrets.

Enclave has a lot of action and a nice touch of romance that will be appealing to YA readers who not only love dystopian, but a story with a thrilling adventure. I'm looking forward to seeing if Enclave will be a stand alone or if there will be a sequel. I definitely want to know what will happen next with Deuce and Fade.

Mundane Monday #79

Happy Mundane Monday!!! This is a SPOILER FREE quote from City of Fallen Angels. I not only love Simon in this book, but I absolutely loved the bantering between he and Jace. I know that sounds wrong to say, but the two of them had me laughing out loud a few times.

Simon shook his head as if to clear it. Since when did he know Jace well enough to be able to identify which gestures of his were characteristic? It wasn't as if they were friends. "You look lousy," he said.

Jace blinked. "Seems an odd time to start an insult contest, but if you insist, I could probably think up something good."

"No, I mean it. You don't look good."

"This from a guy who has all the sex appeal of a penguin. Look, I realize you may be jealous that he good lord didn't deal you the same chiseled hand he dealt me, but that no reason to-"

"I am not trying to insult you," Simon snapped. "I mean you look sick. When was the last time you ate anything?"
