I really like the new paperback cover, and the cover for Shadows is really great too!! Thanks for hosting the awesome giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! :)
DeleteOoh -- LOVE the new covers! The original was amazing, but so creepy and mesmerizing that I needed to keep it face down... Those eyes followed me! I think this new cover style. It draws you in to the adventure and will attract teen readers looking for just this kind of story! Love the silouettes and the hints of the character they contain. I do so want to be an advance reader -- pick me pick me!
ReplyDeleteI agree! I think the new covers will definitely attract the teen readers as well.
DeleteThese covers are great. I love the way the new ASHES cover takes me back to those first ten chapters in the book. Can't wait to see what SHADOWS has in store for us.
ReplyDeleteSo excited about Shadows!!! Love the covers!! I can't wait to see how the story plays out. Ashes had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning.
ReplyDeleteThey look cool, although I am a bit surprised at the Shadows cover. I was expecting it to look more like the Ashes hardcover.
ReplyDeleteI hear you. But see the points below about the book getting lost. It really did.
DeleteI'm going to be different from everyone else and say that I prefer the original cover for Ashes. These are too...something. I don't know. Although I may get used to them. I guess they kind of look like a James Patterson YA cover. Whatever. As long as the books in side are fantastic, who cares?!
ReplyDeleteHere's the thing. The original hardcover was MESMERIZING and so weird and different -- but it was also really... "cold" in a way? Like almost TOO scary? It really read "horror", not "survival" or "action."
ReplyDeleteAnd the Barnes & Noble teen shelves are black, the original cover had a weird way of blending in. I think this pop of color will help it stand out, and I think it will prompt people who like action books to pick it up.
<3
Thanks for making that point, Jenn. I was thinking the same thing.
DeleteFor all you guys out there who loved the original cover--I did, too, but it took some time. I was kinda like . . . OMG, weirded-out. But I really grew to love and appreciate how MESMERIZING it was (a la Jenn).
But, for all of us who ALSO really like that pop of color, I think this cover design is fabulous. Jenn is right; the book tended to bleed into the shelves. (Honest to G-d, true story: I once passed right by the book in a Walmart because it was a) the last copy and b) in shadow because of the stacks around it.) This is a different look, lower on the creep factor, higher on the mystery/action factor (as Jenn also points out). The idea is to invite you to grab that book--and I hope this does just that.
Of course, yeah, we hope the story continues to draw you, too. :-)
The original cover for Ashes is definitely haunting, and matches the feel of the story, as you said, I think these covers will really stand out. Someone mentioned above that the new covers will also be more attractive for teen readers and I agree with that as well. The cover designers did a great job with creating a new feel for the books and choosing colors that totally pop at you and make you want to pick up the books.
DeleteI love both those covers so much! Between the colors used and the silhouettes I just can't seem to stop looking at them.
ReplyDeleteI do love the original cover of ASHES because I think it's very gender neutral. The new covers are awesome, but I think they will be a slightly tougher sell to my HS boys. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I hear you. The gender neutrality of the original was great. OTOH, if you look at the figure on the SHADOWS cover . . . you really can't tell what sex it is. But I'm not disagreeing. So . . . just sell them on the great story? ;-)
DeleteOf course, I am already in love with ASHES. My Room 407 Readers who are discovering the book are absolutely chomping at the bit for SHADOWS (and some of these are seniors who will have to find the book in the wild vs. Room 407--I hope that I have adequately prepared them).
ReplyDeleteKnowing you, Paul . . . of that, I have little doubt ;-)
DeleteThe new covers remind me a bit of the Margaret Peterson Haddix Missing/Shadow Children covers. I can see this being attractive to my 5th graders as they move up to higher grades -- it will reach out to all those fans as they get older! Wishing I taught middle school language arts and could bring some of these wonderful dystopian/post apocalyptic novels into my classroom! 5th graders... sadly a bit too young.
ReplyDelete:'-(
DeleteI LOVED Ashes. These new covers are awesome.
ReplyDeleteAh! I love the covers! :).
ReplyDeleteLoved Ashes and am eagerly awaiting Shadows. Love the covers.
ReplyDeleteThe covers are awesome! I have students who can't wait for Shadows, & I'll be getting a paperback of Ashes so that I have more copies to share!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the sequel arc where are you ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
ReplyDeletesmlockport@aol.com
OMG... when I saw this post in my reader I was freaking out!! I absolutely loved Ashes - it was epic!! One of my Top Books from last year. It had everything! Creep, action, a strong and amazing heroine and the love.. omg.. I was dying there. I loved the character and the story even though it did scare me :))
ReplyDeleteTo the point, Those covers look incredible!!! I remember when I posted my review last year I had the German cover up, not because I read it in German but because the German cover was so wonderful! These new covers are mesmerizing and I love them so so much! :-)))
Can't wait to read Shadows!!! Canot.Wait!
Ilsa, I loved ASHES so much (what a cliffhanger!!) and can't wait for the sequel. Also, I just started DROWNING INSTINCT last night and the writing is blowing. me. away. Consider yourself on the top shelf with my very, very favorite authors! And thank you for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWow, how cool is that? Thanks so much!
DeleteI agree, between Ashes and Drowning Instinct, Ilsa is now my favorite author. The way she writes is "comfortable". That's what I feel when reading. Reading Draw the Dark next. Can' t wait. Work has been interferring with my reading time... dang it! ;-D
DeleteI like these covers even more than the old ones. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI'm always looking for a new series to obsess over, and this one looks promising!! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI love the new cover, and the cover for Shadows is awesome! I can't wait for it to come out!
ReplyDeleteI love the new covers, they looks so cool! And seriously, I really, really, really want to win that survival guide. I didn't win the mega-lotto bucks, so this is the only thing that would soothe my despair. Ilsa, you rock! Thanks for writing such an amazing book, I couldn't put it down. And thank you Egmont for creating such a fabulous giveaway.
ReplyDeleteAh, Laurie, thanks! Best of luck to all you guys! And, yes, kudos to the entire Egmont TEAM ASHES.
DeleteI actually like the paperback cover more than the hardback. Love the survival pack! =)
ReplyDeleteCool! Looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for September!!!!!!! Ashes was awesome, I know the rest of the series will be, too :)
ReplyDeleteOMG, love the covers! Love the giveaway too!
ReplyDeleteI love the new covers. Ilsa J. Bick is fast becoming my new favorite author. :)
ReplyDeleteReally like the new covers. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWow, you're right. Everyone needs a Survival Kit. Don't know why I haven't read Ashes yet. Must go look for it today!
ReplyDeleteYeah, what you waiting for, woman? Get ye to a bookstore! Or online! :-)
DeleteHope I am doing this comment thing correctly. Wasn't sure what to select under Comment as:
ReplyDeleteBut here goes.
While I loved the original cover for Ashes, I also like the new cover and the cover for Shadows! OMG.. I am so excited to read Shadows and have my calendar marked for it's release date of September 11, 2012! I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas! I absolutely loved Ashes and can't wait to see what happens next in Shadows! Thank you Ilsa for writing this terrific story!
You are quite welcome. One thing, though: looks like SHADOWS will be out 9/25/12, not 9/11. So just a little longer to wait :<P
DeleteThe vertical titles tell us that Ilsa Bick's world in ASHES and SHADOWS is turned on its side in a harrowing, thrilling, and breath-taking way. Fabulous, Egmont!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is SUCH a great interpretation! I NEVER thought of that, but it makes so much sense!
DeleteAwesome! Love the new looks!
ReplyDeleteJen
I finally got to ASHES a few months ago. It was amazing! One of the best books I've read all year. And, I absolutely love the new cover design!
ReplyDeleteI'm a little iffy on the new covers. I really liked the old one, but I do like the blue of the Shadows cover :]
ReplyDeleteI hear you. Color does make it pop more, though.
DeleteOh my lanta, I LOVE THESE NEW COVERS!!! It makes me really excited for SHADOWS! eek. :D
ReplyDeletethanks for the giveaway!
I'm so excited for shadows. I've had it on preorder for months. And I love the new cover!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Beautiful covers. I absolutely LOVE the coloring and styling! *scurries off to blog & fangirl*
ReplyDeleteI don't live in the US so I can't enter the giveaway unfortunately (will you be doing any international giveaways soon? pretty please?), but I'll have them on preorder as soon as they're available!
Oh, I bet there will be an ARC giveaway this summer ;-) Plus, stay tuned for some VERY exciting news on my blog, FB and Twitter for all you overseas folks!
DeleteOooooohhhhhh...... ARC giveaway?!!? Me, me, me, me....
Delete*happy dance* consider me already entered! Can't wait!! :D
DeleteJust remembered, I asked some time ago on Twitter whether Drowning Instinct would be coming out on Kindle, any news on that front yet?
Natasa, I haven't checked recently, but I will, okay? I'm not exactly clear what the hold-up is either :<P
DeleteI like! I think the EMP idea is SO scary. This should be great reading.
ReplyDeleteLove the new covers! I loved this book, but read it as an egalley, so don't have my own copy of it and would love to win this!
ReplyDeleteI think I like the original Ashes cover better, but the new one flows well with the sequel. They'll look really snazzy together on a shelf.
ReplyDeleteI like how the new covers are more colorful. The first Ashes cover creeped me out a little bit. (commenting as Justine)
ReplyDeleteThis is AWESOME!!! Thank you so much for the Giveaway! I put the wrong name for the comment on the form... I put Jessica, I didn't realize it would come up JessEmmaZack :) Sorry! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome prize pack and the series sounds fantastic.
ReplyDeleteSince I have Ashes sitting next to me, when I first scrolled down to the new Ashes cover, my thoughts were, HUH? Then scrolling down to Shadows, I was doing the 'what the......?" After reading the posts, and then studying the two new covers, I get it! I plucked my original copy off the shelf because it had an Autographed Copy sticker on it! Not really because of the cover. Once I read the jacket I was immediately hooked!!! Seeing both of these new covers on the shelf would definately pull me in to pick up and see what's inside!! The figures in the background of Shadosw are also ominous and a bit creepy. These covers definately tell a bit of the story and would have me picking the book up to see whatit's about. Ok, verdict is in.... Love the new covers!!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent! That's what I like to hear--not that they're fabulous but tell a bit of the story. That is SO important! Thanks for that, Karen.
DeleteLove the new cover! As a librarian at heart, but in the classroom all day, I've come to realize the importance of eye-catching covers on books to grab teens' attention visually as I can't be there to "sell" books to them.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to read Ashes but I really want to. The new covers are awesome :)
ReplyDeleteHey JMartinLibrary and Karen: Draw the Dark is fabulous -- what a ride through the disturbing mental landscape of the main character. WOW!
ReplyDeleteI'm heading to the park w blanket, dog, my park "survival kit", and copy of Draw the Dark! Today is all about me, and Ilsa, of course! ;-). Can't wait to delve in to a disturbing mental landscape!!
DeleteI like the new look of then Ashes Trilogy--very bold!
ReplyDeleteCannot wait for Shadows!!
Maria Touet
I do like the new covers. But I'm still a fan of the First cover. It just suits the story so well!
ReplyDeleteThe colors on the black do pop really well :)
Also, I'm EXTREMELY anticipating Shadows. Loved Ashes :D
DeleteYeah, I really love that old cover, too. But I DO love the colors on SHADOWS.
DeleteI haven't started this series yet, but I do like these covers!
ReplyDelete- Jessica @ Book Sake
Thank you for all your comments about the covers! It's interesting to see everyone's take on them. Good luck to everyone with the giveaways!!
ReplyDeleteI usually hate cover changes, but this one is actually amazing. I love the new covers!!
ReplyDeleteI will have to buy the paperback version of Ashes so I'll have a matched set once I buy Shadows (and Monsters of course!). I can never own "too many" books ya know!
ReplyDeleteI'm there ;-)
DeleteI haven't read this series, I like the covers though. Great choice.
ReplyDeleteWell, whatcha waiting for? ;-)
DeleteI loved Ashes! To be honest I liked the original cover for Ashes! It portrayed how creepy Ashes was IMO. I'm still super excited for Shadows!
ReplyDeleteKatharyn...I know. I'm torn.
DeleteI like the cover change :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway! Loving the cover! I'm very excited to read this series!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! I LOVE IT! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! The covers are awesome!!
ReplyDeleteSuch an amazing cover!! And tank you for having this giveaway!! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat covers!! Awesome giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love this one even more than the hard cover!!! Cannot wait to read it. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I love reading all the different reactions! Thank you, MUNDIE MOMS, for being so generous and doing this reveal. All you guys--keep those comments coming! Good luck on the giveaway. Also, all you overseas folks, stay tuned for some VERY AWESOME news, coming soon :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the amazing giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI think I like the new covers more :)
ReplyDeleteI really liked the original cover for Ashes, but I see how it could be difficult to continue with that for the sequel. This cover works, too. Looking forward to getting back into this world! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love the new covers! I can't wait for Shadows to come out!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway. I've been waiting for a chance to get my hands on this book.
ReplyDeleteMan, I gotta say...I'm loving the new cover concepts. I also loved the original cover for Ashes too because it drew me in but unfortunately we live in a world where a lot of readers base their next read on just the cover alone. With that said these books will have no problem! They will sell like hot cakes, even if i have to buy 20 copies and get people hooked! I devoured Ashes in a couple of days and i felt like i was there with the main character suffereing too (which could sound bad but it was awesome!). So thank you for a fantastic read! I definitely look forward to the next one and i cant wait! Yay!
ReplyDelete(p.s. sorry if this becomes a double post, my phone is being a pain -_-)
The cover art is great. Though I must admit, the art work on the jacket for the hard cover was effectively creepy. Ashes was a real sci-fi adventure novel, and a horror story all in one.
ReplyDeleteI like the new cover for Ashes. Will they rerelease the hard bound in the new cover to match?
ReplyDeleteooh, these new covers are cool! Wish they had some design to it that went with the title, but still, they're better than the original. :D
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, no. The new ASHES cover is for the paperback only :'-(
ReplyDeleteOTOH, look at it this way: the old ASHES becomes a collector's item ;-)
Thanks, David. High praise :-)
ReplyDeleteCatalina--thanks! For some reason I can't get the "reply" button to work--but I did want to respond. I'm glad you liked the book. I kind of did, too. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHey, Tayte--glad they work for you! Seems to be the concensus, so you're in good company :-)
ReplyDeleteReally like the new covers. Ashes is one of those book I really want to read.
ReplyDeleteI have read Ashes, now I am dying to figure out what happens next...I cannot wait for SHADOWS.
ReplyDeleteI really really like these new covers! sad that i won't have them all matching in hardback though! i loved ashes and can't wait to read shadows : )
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny! I have not heard of these books before. But just last night we were talking about what would happen if an EMP hit. What would survive and for how long!! The more we talked the bleaker I felt. So this book is now hot on my mind!! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI just love this book, and can't wait for Shadows in September! Thanks for the op to win great swag!
ReplyDeleteLove the covers...very well designed:) Can't wait to read Shadows!
ReplyDeleteI loved Ashes and can't wait for Shadows! These new covers are awesome. It's so great that they match!
ReplyDeleteAwesome covers! Can't wait to read the next book.
ReplyDeleteI really like the new covers! Thanks for the great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteLove the new covers! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteVery nice covers I really like the Shadows cove I is so awesome when there is a giveaway I think it makes the readers feel appreciated. So thans so much
ReplyDeleteFor some reason my responses to you'all's comments aren't being allowed . . . so, I'll just post down here.
ReplyDeleteAlicia: I KNOW. OTOH, look at it this way. The original hardcover will be a collector's item!
And, Kelly, be careful what you wish for ;-)
Wow these books look really good. Nice giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI really like the new covers, too. I have an ebook version of Ashes that I've been looking forward to reading soon. It would be great to win a print version of one of the books, though. :) Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! The new covers are pretty cool; I like them more than the original.
ReplyDeleteAshes kept me up at night! I can't wait to find out what happens next!
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway! Ashes has been on my TBR list forever - really would love to win it!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Leanne
Can't wait to read Shadows! Loving the new covers!
ReplyDeleteLove Ilsa J. Bick. She's an incredible writer. If you haven't read Drowning Instinct, you all should! Can't wait for Shadows!
ReplyDeleteI love the new covers! Thanks for the giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteThis new cover design is awesome! I think the original cover appealed to a more masculine audience. Not to say that the new ones are more feminine, but I'll be more inclined to buy a book that has more color in the cover (judging books by covers, I know, I'm terrible). I just hope that they'll release the new Ashes cover in hardback as well as paperback, so the series will match up in size as well as look :)
ReplyDeleteThis cover is legit... :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great series! I will have to put it on my TBR list!
ReplyDeleteMelanie, thanks! Glad you liked that book. Jordan: I agree with you, on all counts. The original cover was designed to be more gender-neutral. But I do recall asking about a dash of color.
ReplyDeleteOoo, I really love the revamp of the Ashes cover - usually I don't like revamps but in this case it totally works!
ReplyDeleteErica, excellent! And, Emily--absolutely. Go for it!
ReplyDeleteAaaaawwww!! *closes her mouth with her hand* the covers are awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteBeen day dreaming about this prizes since I heared about the giveaway....
:D
A bottle of water? Really? Lol...
ReplyDeleteLove the colors on these covers! So pretty...
Pasion: fantastic! I hope your dreams become a reality.
ReplyDeleteLucia: I know, RIGHT? Seems stupid? OTOH, it's an essential part of any pack. The original packs had the MREs (like the one you see there), but no water. I pointed out that MREs weren't exactly USELESS then (you can eat these cold). But, if you're talking survival, you die faster without water than without food; with water, you can make the coffee and/or whatever dehydrated drink the MRE provides. So there is some method behind that madness.
Or you could water a deserving plant ;-)
So excited about Shadows! I absolutely loved Ashes--although it definitely creeped me out at times. Loving the cover for Shadows (and Ashes) too!
ReplyDeleteI love the new covers! Kind of reminds me of the redesigned Curse Workers series covers, which I also love. There is something about the black background and pops of color, very eye-catching!!!
ReplyDeleteThansk for the give aways ! :D I'm uber happy !
ReplyDeleteHey, Kristin: Thank you! I can assure you: in SHADOWS, things get worse ;-)
ReplyDeleteCandice: Excellent point. I didn't see that until you pointed it out. Someone else mentioned James Patterson, too? I sort of see that, too. Whatever entice you to pick it up.
Evelina: Stay uber-happy, girl :-)
Guys, keep telling your friends about the giveaways, okay?
ASHES is of the best books in this genre that I have read in a very long time. I recommended it to my students in class last week! Can't wait for the next volume. ~Leisa
ReplyDeleteTyping before coffee is never good for me. It should say "ASHES is the best book in this genre I have read in a very long time."
DeleteBring on the coffee!
The old cover of Ashes freaked me out. It's so creepy! I love the new one! It's awesome! And I love how well it matches the cover of Shadows! (Which I can't wait for it to be released! September is too far away!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! :)
I love both covers. They are both great. But the new colorful one will pop and make people pick it up more so than the last one.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU to everyone who's stopped by to comment on Ilsa's covers!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! I am excited! :)
ReplyDeleteI am so excited about this giveaway! Thanks! :D
ReplyDeleteThe new covers are awesome! Only problem, is the second book won't match my original hardcover copy of book one.
ReplyDeleteThis trilogy sounds great! I can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely LOVED Ashes!!! Couldn't stop talking about it for five straight days after I read it the first time. Have recommended to SO many students, friends, teachers, and fellow librarians. Addicted to the story and on pins-and-needles for Shadows. LOVE the paperback covers. Keeping fingers crossed I win the giveaway ... will make a fantastic display in our school library!! - SunriseLewallen
ReplyDeleteAAAAAHHH!!!!! I can't wait for Shadows! Ashes was actually the first book I reviewed on my blog. Thank you for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThese books look awesome. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThese books look awesome. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI liked the old cover, but I love the new covers! I usually hate cover revamps, but this one rocks! I loved Ashes and can't wait to read more of this series! Thanks for the giveaway.

ReplyDeleteThe book sounds good. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteLove the covers!
ReplyDeleteI can not wait for Shadows. Ashes was one of my favorites books in a long time!

ReplyDelete
