Today's discussion is about: Chapter 17: And Cain Rose Up
  • Well, this chapter was certainty interesting...... What do you guys make of Lilith being Jonathan's "mom"? I mean it makes sense in a totally twisted way. Now I'm wondering what his quote in the COLS trailer means when he's referring to his mother. Which one would he be talking about?
  • Clary's act of saving Jace in COG definitely damned them all in many ways with regards to Lilith and what she's planning. Clary's actions made it possible for Lilith to put her plan into action. I get that Jace is the counterweight and to have balance with light and dark, Jonathan must be brought back. Do you think if Clary had known the out come of her act of saving Jace she would have do things differently at the end of COG?
Please DO NOT POST SPOILERS. There's some fans who are joining the read-a-long who are reading COFA for the first time.

  1. *I think it makes sense in a twisted and sick way too. I can totally understand where she is coming from though, especially now with wanting to create a new race. I'm very curious about that quote too! The good thing is at least it will only be a few more days to find out!!

*I honestly think she still would have saved him. I just think that she would have made sure he got all of the protections back on him as soon as possible. She loves him so unconditionally and he was and is the thing that she wants most, so I think her love for him would have made her make that same choice. The choices she made after the fact would have been much different though.

  2. It makes sense that she would be his mom she is the first demon so all daemon blood would. be from her. I feel bad for clary she just waits to be with jace and everything always has consequences. Will they ever get a break?

  3. When I read the quote from CoLS I was very confused but now that I remember Lilith being Jonathan's "mom" I am wondering if he was talking to her. That makes more sense to me. I guess too I can see the son going against the mom here too. I mean Lilith may have brought Sebastian back but he is all about his own agenda.

If Clary had know, she would have still saved Jace but then made sure he was protected from Lilith.

  4. *I thought the quote in the book trailer was referring to Jocelyn. Sebastian/Johnathan seems really mad at her for not loving him, so that's why I think he says "she is dead to me."

*I think Clary still would have saved him. I wish she had told people about it, though, so that they could've given her advice. I don't understand why they didn't tell anyone. I don't think anyone would be mad that she brought him back.

  5. I just want to quickly answer number two. In my head I like to think that she wouldn’t have done anything different. My oppinion of her is that she is smart. She knows what she wants and a good way of getting it. She also seems to not be functional without Jace. I know she is a kick-a character but she does sometimes seem slightly needy. I totally love her anyway though. Yeah. So…..that’s it. I don’t know what to say about question one.

  6. I think Jonathan/Sebastian was referring to Jocelyn, because he said that she was dead to him.

Clary probably would have wanted to make sure that Jace got the protection spells again that he'd lost, but I don't think she would have changed bringing him back. She loved him too much.

  7. Hmmmm......At this point, I do not know what to make of Lilith, other than she is completely evil and so, so ancient. She must have tons of knowledge, but obviously she is completely lacking in wisdom. Although she claims to be more of Jonathan's mother than Jocelyn, I am not so sure. She says that his humanity is gone, which sounds about right. I do not think that Sebastian/Jonathan can be redeemed because he killed Max. The trailer has worried me, though....Clary is way too friendly toward him. I think the trailer is referring to Jocelyn, not Liilith.

I think that Clary would have brought Jace back regardless of the consequences. She loves him that much.

  8. I think he is referring to Jocelyn in the trailer....I'm not sure Sebastian knows that Lilith is his "mother"...she mentioned she watched him grow up but not that they were introduced.....Not sure Valentine would want to admit demon blood as he was trying to "purify" Shadowhunters...
It makes perfect sense that a demon is Sebastians mother....he is sooo evil...Greater demon blood coarsing through his blood burned out his humanity

Clary would always choose to bring back Jace...she loves him so much....in hind sight they would know he needed the protection ceremony and everything would've been fine

  9. The idea that Lilith counts as Jonathan's mom is just creepy. Anyone who can twist parenting that way is seriously messed up. And the thing with the babies... Ugh! How could anyone worship her?
Clary would have saved Jace, no matter what. I mean, if it were me, I'd have done the same. If you get an opportunity to ask an angel for anything, it's got to be good. You can't waste it on material things, or on something like world hunger. Anything that's possible to obtain on your own isn't worth wasting an Angel's magic on. Jace really was her only option, and even if she knew Lilith would be able to work her nastiness because of it, she still would have tried. Failing would be worth it, in my opinion, if it meant just a little more time with Jace. If there was any chance she could have him back, she would take it.

  10. I think Sebastian/Johnathon is referring to Jocelyn saying he had a mother but she is dead to him, because she was never able to be apart of his life and saw him as an abomination.

I believe that Clary would have still made the same choice to bring Jace back, but I think that she would have told people sooner that perhaps she could stop this catastrophe. Because Jace is the love of her life, she could never let him go no matter what the cost. If I was in Clary's shoes I would still save Jace, because a love like that only comes around once in a lifetime. You just can't let something like that go, no matter what the consequences.

  11. i kind of expected lilith to be sebatians mom. but its kind of freaky. and its kind of sick. im glad clary saved jace. and even if she knew the outcome of wha she did i know she still would have saved him because she loves him that much.

  12. No wonder Sebastian is a cruel and evil Nephilim because of Lilith, it is amazing how everything fits together, it must be hard to make everything connect together. I'm currently writing a story it will take me quiet some time to finish. I haven't seen the CoLS trailer hehe sorry.

Well Sebastian being her brother and Jace being the person she loves, knowing the outcome maybe Clary would've let em dead no matter how painful it would've been.

    Good Night everyone=)

  14. This chapter was full of action!
I hate the fact that Lilith call Sebastian "her son" even if it is totally understandable! She can't have any child so she consider the only one who was able to grow her child. I still feel so bad for Sebastian as I'm sure he would have been an amazing son and brother for Jocelyn and Clary if his blood hadn't been poisoned.
I think that Clary would have done the same thing in any case, she is ready to pay anything, in heaven or hell, to have Jace. Their love could really destroy everything with its force! (:

  15. I think Jonathan was referring to Jocelyn. And I think Clary would have saved Jace whether even if she knew the consequences. However,if she knew the consequences they could have prepared for it had a plan instead of being blindsided by Lilth.

  16. I think Clary will Save Jace anyway. And about the comment on the CoLS trailer that Sebastian makes about her mother I think she is referring to Jocelyn.

  17. Finding out Lilith is Johnathan's mom is twisted but definitely makes a lot of sense. I think in the trailer he is referring to Jocelyn because she always hated Johnathan for coming out evil and even if she knew he were alive I still think she would keep far away from him.
There is no doubt that Clary would have brought back Jace in CoG. Anyone would bring back the one they love. Doing it over again Clary would know to get the protections back on Jace but no matter what happens Clary would have chosen the same path every time of bringing back Jace.
