TOUCHED Blog Tour: Guest Post / Giveaway with Author Corrine Jackson

I'm thrilled to be the next stop in our Mundie Moms blog tour for Corrine Jackson's TOUCHED. Today's post features a Trivia guest post from Corrine, along with a giveaway for a SIGNED copy of Touched, which was released on Tuesday!!

Remy O’Malley heals people with touch—but every injury she cures becomes her own. Living in a household with an abusive stepfather, she has healed untold numbers of broken bones, burns, and bruises. And then one night her stepfather goes too far.
Being sent to live with her estranged father offers a clean start and she is eager to take it. Enter Asher Blackwell. Once a Protector of Healers, Asher sacrificed his senses to become immortal. Only by killing a Healer can a Protector recover their human senses. Falling in love is against the rules between these two enemies. Because Remy has the power to make Protectors human again, and when they find out, they’ll becoming for her—if Asher doesn’t kill her first.
This is Book One in the Touched trilogy, and will be out November 27th, 2012 from Kensington/KTeen.

When you buy a DVD, moviemakers will give you a Behind the Scenes peek at what happens during the making of a movie. Location photos, deleted scenes, script changes, etc. Likewise, every author has private jokes or quirky things that they slip into their work that the audience doesn’t always get to hear about. In another tour post, I already mentioned that Remy’s favorite foods are my favorites (link to that post). Today, I’m going to move the curtain to reveal some other trivia tidbits.

  • In one scene in the book, a car gets wrecked. That car is a Chevy Malibu. While I was editing TOUCHED, I was in a car accident and my little Ford Focus was totaled. I had to use a rental car for a month, and I was (a) bitter my car was gone and (b) hated the rental car. So when it came time to wreck a car in TOUCHED, I gleefully chose that car that I hated so much.
  • A lot of the locations in the fictional town of Blackwell Falls, Maine are based on real locations in Port Townsend, WA. Townsend Park is really Sather Park, a gorgeous park that has a kind of labyrinth that leads to an oasis in the center. Teens in that town like to use the park for paintball war games, and others like to bird watch. The club, ice cream shop, beach, cafĂ©, high school, and more are also based on locations in this town.
  • There is a real cliff that the locals refer to as the “End of the World” because all you can see is sea and it really does feel like you’re standing on the edge of the world. I discovered the cliff after speaking with a teen in Port Townsend. I wish I knew who she was because I owe her a big thank you.
  • A couple of major scenes take place at Fort Rowden and a hostel at the fort. While writing TOUCHED, I visited the real fort (Fort Worden) and stayed at the hostel there. The room and bathroom that I describe are the ones I stayed in.
  • I had to do a lot of medical research to imagine ways to heal injuries and illnesses the way Remy does.
  • I had never heard of frozen waterfalls, but I edited one into TOUCHED after seeing an incredible picture of the phenomena.
  • I wrote TOUCHED in three and a half months, and the first draft came in around 140,000 words. After I got an agent, I had to cut 40,000 words to get the book down to a sellable word count.
  • The TOUCHED series is releasing ten months early in German due to an odd publication schedule. The second book will be out there on January 7, 2013.

  5. I love it when authors incorporate little bits of real life events/places/people/etc into their books. I think it helps blur the line between fiction and reality and make the story more believable.

  20. The author did a wonderful job with this story of a girl with a special power. We are taken on the journey as she learns more about this special power and the danger it means for her life, and I loved the journey. If you are looking for a touching story with great characters, this book is for you..
