The narrator’s name is Emaline. Originally, I wanted to use the name Esme. I’d just read a memoir by Michael J. Fox, and he had a daughter with that name. (Yes, I get my names from everywhere and anywhere.) But when I Googled it, just to see what came up, I realized there was a Cullen in Twilight with the same name. Back to square one. I was listening to the radio in my car one day and this Ben Folds song came on: “Emaline.” And it was perfect.
