A broken past and a divided future can’t stop the electric connection of two teens in this “charged and romantic” (Becca Fitzpatrick), lush novel.

Seventeen-year-old Vane Weston has no idea how he survived the category five tornado that killed his parents. And he has no idea if the beautiful, dark-haired girl who’s swept through his dreams every night since the storm is real. But he hopes she is.

Seventeen-year-old Audra is a sylph, an air elemental. She walks on the wind, can translate its alluring songs, and can even coax it into a weapon with a simple string of commands. She’s also a guardian—Vane’s guardian—and has sworn an oath to protect Vane at all costs. Even if it means sacrificing her own life.

When a hasty mistake reveals their location to the enemy who murdered both of their families, Audra’s forced to help Vane remember who he is. He has a power to claim—the secret language of the West Wind, which only he can understand. But unlocking his heritage will also unlock the memory Audra needs him to forget. And their greatest danger is not the warriors coming to destroy them—but the forbidden romance that’s grown between them.

A fun, enjoyable, fast paced read that completely swept me off my feet! Shannon Messenger's debut held me captive and wouldn't let me go until the very end. This is one debut I highly recommend picking up!

I love it when I sit down a read a book and find myself caught completely off guard with it. I wasn't excepting to be so wrapped up into the story from the get go like I was, but from page one Shannon grabbed my attention and held it until the last word, on the last page of the book. Let The Sky Fall is this fabulously crafted, unique read that molds together supernatural elements, great character chemistry and has plenty of moments that made me want to shove the two characters together and tell them to kiss already. Above all, this was a story I thoroughly enjoyed spending my time reading. It's a fun, engaging, fast paced read that provided all the elements I look for in a 5 star book.

This is the time I normally talk about the story's characters, but instead of professing my love for Audra and Vane, I'm going to tell you how hard I fell for Shannon's mythology. Much like Keeper of the Lost Cities, Shannon has a talent for creating alluring mythologies, and these intoxicating worlds that make me wish I could crawl inside the book and be apart of. It's not enough to just read about them, I want more from them, even though Shannon gives me everything she possibly can within the pages of her book. I was so blown away (no punt intended) with this mythology. The concept of Windwalkers makes me an even bigger fan of the wind. I loved all the vivid details, the back story, the history, and the concepts that make up this mythology.

Shannon's writing is flawless, and I admire the way she gives me enough of what I need to know through out her story, while also leaving me wanting more. Her story isn't weighted down with unnecessary things that I feel sometimes take me away from a good story. I loved how she blended together the real world, with that of her supernatural one. She made this captivating world so believable, and I wanted more of her Windwalker myth! I've always loved windy days, not those crazy intense windy days, but those windy days where the wind dances along your skin, and softly blows your hair in the wind. Next time I feel the wind on my face I'll just pretend it's Vane... lol, okay not really, since I really, really want everything between him and Audra to work out.

I loved, loved Vane and Audra. It's almost comical reading about these two during the first half of the book. It was almost like they were playing this game of tug o war with each other. Audra knew stuff about Vane, and less she gave him, the more he wanted from her. She in return was falling for Vane, and the more she resisted, the harder he tried. There's so much more to their complicated, richly detailed, intertwined pasts than I can give away here. I just loved how their relationship grew, given all the obstacles in the way. What had me, was the fact Audra was the one thing Vane has always wanted, literally, and I loved how over the course of the book she finally accepted that. Their story is one heck of a complicated, mesmerizing tangled mess of love, protectiveness, trust, learning to let go, and learning to take that plunge into the unknown. *sigh* Vane is that character who will sweep you off your feet, and Audra is the character you'll admire for all the sacrifices she makes, and what she does to protect the boy who might hold her heart. Wait, did I mention their love is FORBIDDEN?!

Let The Sky Fall is a book that has it all! It's action packed, funny, enjoyable, and has just the right amount of swoon worthy forbidden romance that will keep you clinging to the pages. This is a debut that will leave gasping for more of it's beautifully told story, and it's dynamic mythology. I haven't read anything else quite like this book. I loved it! Shannon Messenger's Let The Sky Fall is an EPIC breathe of fresh air! If you haven't already, I highly recommend pre-ordering this book!

Shannon Messenger graduated from the USC School of Cinematic Arts where she learned--among other things--that she liked watching movies much better than making them. She also regularly eats cupcakes for breakfast, sleeps with a bright blue stuffed elephant named Ella, and occasionally gets caught talking to imaginary people. So it was only natural for her to write stories for children. KEEPER OF THE LOST CITIES is her first novel, with LET THE SKY FALL, a young adult novel, to follow in 2013. She lives in Southern California with her husband and an embarrassing number of cats. Find her online at shannonmessenger.com.

  2. Very awesome review. I loved the world building too. Very unique and hard to believe it could be a complete system, but Shannon did a fantastic job with that. And of course I loved Audra and Vane. And I had a soft spot for the way Shannon handled Vane's family situation. So happy to be a part of the tour.
