My review Unraveling

Four months after Ben disappeared through the portal to his home universe, Janelle believes she’ll never see him again. Her world is still devastated, but life is finally starting to resume some kind of normalcy. Until Interverse Agent Taylor Barclay shows up. Somebody from an alternate universe is running a human trafficking ring, kidnapping people and selling them on different Earths—and Ben is the prime suspect. Now his family has been imprisoned and will be executed if Ben doesn’t turn himself over within five days.

And when Janelle learns that someone she cares about—someone from her own world—has become one of the missing, she knows that she has to help Barclay, regardless of the danger. Now Janelle has five days to track down the real culprit. Five days to locate the missing people before they’re lost forever. Five days to reunite with the boy who stole her heart. But as the clues begin to add up, Janelle realizes that she’s in way over her head—and that she may not have known Ben as well as she thought. Can she uncover the truth before everyone she cares about is killed?

Just as thrilling and unpredictable as Unraveling, Unbreakable is another action packed, Sci-Fi mystery that's hard to put down. Elizabeth doesn't hold back with her plot twists and shocking discoveries. Just as I think I have things figured out, she throws in another twist that makes it harder to really figure out what's going on, and let's just say that again, nothing is what it seems, nor is everyone again, who you think they are. Not being able to predict the outcome of this story is one of the things I enjoyed about it.

Character wise, Janelle is definitely in way over her head with her operation in this book. She's on a mission to uncover what exactly is going on, and what Ben has to do with it all, if he is indeed behind everything that's happening. She wants answers, she wants to protect her brother, and get to the bottom of everything going on. She's tougher than she was before, but still needs help. Luckily she has my favorite character from this sequel to help her out, Agent Barclay. I didn't mention him in my review of Unraveling, but I liked his character in that book, and I love him in this book. He seriously made this book for me. I know he's not the main character, but he plays a huge role in Breakable. There is so much to his character that we find out about here. He's just one of the pieces that connects everything that's going on in this series. If Elizabeth gave Barclay his own story, I'd pick it up in a heartbeat.

I loved the introduction of some new characters who only deepened the story's mystery and twisted secrets. I'm not sure I can really mention some of the characters except to say that they add to some of the tensions and action packed scenes that take place through out the book. Again, Elizabeth isn't afraid to kill off some of her characters. There's one character's death that literally made me want to throw the book, and yell NO! Not that I would ever throw a book, okay I only did that once and the book wasn't very good. That's beside the point. As a reader I hate it when a character's life is sacrificed, though it says a lot about that certain character. At the same time, I respect an author who does this, because it adds a whole new level to the book. While it breaks the reader and the characters who admire this person, it also makes the remaining characters that much more determined to fight for their cause, and it makes me cheer the remaining characters on even more.

Setting wise, I liked being back in this world. Things are definitely different for the characters. They are learning to move on and pick up the pieces from their grieving over the death of someone close to them (that happened in Unraveling), and because their world is different than it was before. There's a lot more action, some romance, and plenty of moments that made me laugh, especially between Barclay and Janelle. My only issue again was how often the f-word is used. I know that doesn't phase a lot of people, but used a little too much and it totally starts to bug me. I get that this is how one character talks, but it was a little too much for me, again. Other than that, I enjoyed the book. It's a great sequel, and things wrapped up nicely. The entire series has exceeded my expectations. Now I'm waiting for Elizabeth's next book to be out.
