Count Down by Michelle Rowen, Blog Tour; Guest Post & Giveaway

Welcome to today's COUNTDOWN BLOG TOUR STOP #5! I'm so thrilled to have Michelle Rowen on Mundie Moms to today. Before you check out Count Down, and enter to win the awesome giveaway below, check out Michelle's top 5 Heroines in YA

Top Five Kickass Heroines in YA lit
by Michelle Rowen

In Countdown, my heroine Kira Jordan is a street kid who finds herself forced to play a Reality TV game show where to lose is to die. She needs to find her inner warrior in order to survive to see tomorrow, along with her partner, Rogan, a boy she’s just met who has a shady past and a million secrets he’s not willing to share with her.

I like to think Kira is pretty kickass. But who are some of my other favorite kickass heroines in YA who deserve a shout out?

Here’s my top five – in no particular order….

ROSE HATHAWAY
from Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Rose is a dhampir, half vampire half human, training to be a guardian (bodyguard) for vampire royalty. Rose is gorgeous and knows it, and she also kicks butt and takes names whenever possible. She doesn’t take anyone’s crap. When she falls in love, she falls hard. She’ll do anything for her friends, even if it means trouble. Rose acts first, thinks second. It gets her into some difficult spots and her choices are not always the wisest ones, but she’s never boring and she definitely comes alive on the page. (And soon on the big screen too! Yay!)

MIKI JONES
from Rush by Eve Silver

In attempting to rescue a little girl about to be fatally hit by a car, Miki gets hit instead and finds herself “pulled” into a game where she has to hunt aliens – or die! Some heroines might balk at such a scenario, which is so different from her everyday life at high school, but Miki hits the ground running. She gathers as much information as she can and does what she has to in order to survive and return to her normal life. Miki is skilled, savvy, not quick to trust, and relentlessly searches for the info she needs to be even more kickass than she was to start with!

KATNISS EVERDEEN
from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

From the moment I read the first scene when Katniss bravely volunteers as tribute to save her sister, I knew Katniss was an incredible character I’d always remember. She is smart, brave, strong, and cunning. Sometimes it seems like she’s cold and heartless, but in a dystopic future like this, you have to be if you want to survive. Katniss can handle a bow and arrow with grace and skill and isn’t afraid to use it if it means saving herself and the people she loves.

TRIS PRIOR
from Divergent by Veronica Roth

Tris is kickass because she follows her heart in making a choice that will define her forever, a choice that will take her away from her family and the life she’s always known. She chooses the Dauntless faction, those who define themselves as brave, and begins the difficult task of training to be strong. She might be kickass from the beginning when it comes to making hard choices, but she must learn how to actually kick butt in some difficult lessons, both in and out of the training rooms. Can’t wait for the movie!

JUNE IPARIS
from Legend by Marie Lu

A true prodigy as the only one (on record) who got a perfect score on her Trial, June is destined for greatness and knows it. She’s wicked smart, knows how to fight, and even though she likes to break the rules, others around her, both young and old, are certain of her loyalty to the Republic and her solid future among the VIPs of this world. This girl certainly has an incredible resume considering she’s all of fifteen years old! Of course, due to that high level skillset she definitely isn’t stupid, so when things start to fall apart, she capable of seeing past lies and doing what she has to do to right the wrongs in her strictly governed city – kicking butt as she goes!

About COUNTDOWN

Publication date: September 23rd by Harlequin Teen

3 SECONDS LEFT TO LIVE.
Once the countdown starts, it cannot be stopped.

2 PAWNS THROWN INTO A BRUTAL UNDERGROUND REALITY GAME.
Kira Jordan survived her family’s murder and months on plague-devastated city streets with hard-won savvy and a low-level psi ability. She figures she can handle anything. Until she wakes up in a barren room, chained next to the notorious Rogan Ellis.

1 REASON KIRA WIL NEVER, EVER TRUST ROGAN. EVEN THOUGH BOTH THEIR LIVES DEPEND ON IT.
Their every move is controlled and televised for a vicious exclusive audience. And as Kira’s psi skill unexpectedly grows and Rogan’s secrets prove ever more deadly, Kira’s only chance of survival is to risk trusting him as much as her instincts. Even if that means running head-on into the one trap she can’t escape.

About Michelle Rowen - website, Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads
Michelle Rowen knows a book she’s working on is going well when the characters start talking to her when she’s not writing. She likes to believe this is a sign of a creative mind…and not something to be worried about. While she loves to read, spend time with family and friends, and travel, she also watches way too much reality TV for her own good. A prolific author of novels for both young and not-so-young adults, Michelle lives in Southern Ontario in a sky-high condo with two delightful cat familiars.
