Per ABC Family's Official Press Release:

ABC FAMILY HAS CAST MAXIM ROY AS JOCELYN FRAY
FOR THE SAGA SERIES “SHADOWHUNTERS”

Burbank, CA (May 18, 2015) – ABC Family has cast Maxim Roy (Canadian series “19-2” and “Heartland”) as Clary’s mother, Jocelyn Fray, it was announced today by the network. Roy will be a recurring guest star on the series.

Based on the bestselling young adult fantasy book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, “Shadowhunters” follows 18 year-old Clary Fray who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is, but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters - human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and her best friend Simon. Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold.

Very beautiful, warm, protective and bold, Jocelyn Fray is Clary’s mother.  On the surface, Jocelyn leads a normal life running an antiquities store.  We will learn, however, that she harbors many secrets about a past life; particularly her ties to an ancient group of supernatural beings known as Shadowhunters.  In order to defend Clary from danger, Jocelyn transforms from single mom back into one of the most lethal Shadowhunters that ever lived.

“Shadowhunters” is produced by Constantin Film and executive produced by Ed Decter and McG. McG will also direct the first episode. The network has previously announced Katherine McNamara as ‘Clary Fray,’ Dominic Sherwood for the role of ‘Jace Wayland,’ Alberto Rosende as ‘Simon,’ Emeraude Toubia as ‘Isabelle Lightwood,’ Matthew Daddario as ‘Alec Lightwood,’ Isaiah Mustafa as ‘Luke Garroway’ Harry Shum Jr. as ‘Magnus Bane and Alan Van Sprang in the recurring guest star role of ‘Valentine.’

AUTHOR GUEST POST

* 3-5 Favorites Lines from Illusionarium
I think all my favorite lines were the footnotes of the story.  Using footnotes in a novel is pretty unconventional; but I think they’re hilarious.  It was Sir Terry Pratchett who introduced me to the idea.
Terry Pratchett died only a couple of months ago, but I know his legacy lives on.  “Illusionarium” is one of the books inspired by his insanely clever words.  Here are some of my favorite footnotes 

{From Chapter 1}:
“Oh, come on, Hannah,” I said.  “The king’s airship?  What the devil would the king be doing this far north?  In a raging storm, no less?  Anyway, I’ve been in the sig tower all day and didn’t see a thing.  You were having a polarage.
Polarage \pol-a-raj\ n: A mirage found in polar regions, when the cold air warps and forms floating icebergs and billowing shapes that could be mistaken for airships*
*but only by drunken airmen

{From Chapter 6}:
The Tower of London.  I knew this place only from books.  I stared up in awe at the water-worn towers attached to massive stone walls.  Slotted windows and ancient doors punctuated the fortress.  Queen and dukes had been held prisoner here hundreds of years ago.  I hadn’t realized it was still used as a prison.
Hannah would have known this.  Also, she could probably list off all the queens and dukes who had lost their heads there, in consecutive order, or, quite possibly, alphabetically by either a) surname or b) title.  Our long winters on Fata were, indeed, joyous.

{From the middle of the book}:
Divinity smiled softly, her half-moon eyes glistening.  It was the same sort of glittering smile she’d given when she’d torn the glass heart away from her illusioned man.
I suddenly realized what Divinity reminded me of.  One of those female insects that, after they mated, would bite off the male's head and lay their eggs in his body so that when larvae hatched and burst through his headless body's abdomen, they would eat his entrails.

{Later}:
I wore a black and white mask that fit uncomfortably over my face, squashing my glasses up against my eyes.  Hannah’s mask was bright purple, and she jingled in an oversized man’s coat that drowned her in buckles and sleeves.  Lockwood wore a combination of long black coats and a black mask.  He could have been distilled into purified Dashing.
2Surprise, surprise.

{Even later}:
But Lockwood was an absolute sort of person, wasn’t he? He wouldn’t fall in love like tripping over a brick. He was the sort to rear back, run, catapult over the side of an airship’s railing, and fall, fall, fall into love before smacking into the Ocean of Delirious Wanderings.
3Which would sever his limbs from his body on impact, causing Death by Unmitigated Joy

Cassandra Clare Shared One Line Snippets from Lady Midnight, TLH and Nothing But Shadows | Mundane Monday #242

Happy Mundane Monday! Yesterday Cassandra Clare teased fans with one lines from Lady Midninght, The Last Hours, and Nothing But Shadows. Be prepared to wish these books were already in your hands.

“Emma.” Raw pain. “I said what I said because —sometimes I think I asked you to be my parabatai because I wanted you to be tied to me."

Anna raised her eyebrow at James as he turned away, but James ignored it. Anna had been raising her eyebrows at him all his life. — TLH

"James did not worry about ladies approaching Father. He never once looked at any woman the way he looked at Mother, with thanksgiving" TFTSA

I can not wait to have these books in my hands! These teasers are heart breakers.
