Shadowhunters TV News: Cassandra Clare Shares Her Thoughts on Jon Cor's Audition for Hodge

Cassandra Clare shared a sneak peak into her thoughts on the audition for Hodge. Jon Cor was just announced as the newest cast member to join The Shadowhunters TV Series. He has been cast as Hodge. Read the announcement here.

In talking to Cassie about his casting, she had this to say:

John Cor's audition really worked for me. It brought home a different aspect of Hodge than the movie. I really saw the man who had been in school with Jocelyn and Valentine. One of his lines was that Jocelyn was one of his best friends in high school, and I could believe it. I loved Jared but I think this is going to illuminate the Hodge who was once a young man with promise that went terribly wrong.

Yep, I can definitely see how Jon will illuminate the younger Hodge. I can't wait to see Jon bring Hodge to life on TV. Read the official press release from ABC FAMILY here

They say death can be beautiful. But after the death of her mother, seventeen-year-old Raven Weathersby gives up her dream of becoming a fashion designer, barely surviving life in the South Carolina lowlands.

To make ends meet, Raven works after school as a seamstress creating stunning works of fashion that often rival the great names of the day.

Instead of making things easier on the high school senior, her stepdad's drinking leads to a run in with the highly reclusive heir to the Maddox family fortune, Gideon Maddox.

But Raven's stepdad's drying out and in no condition to attend the meeting with Maddox. So Raven volunteers to take his place and offers to repay the debt in order to keep the only father she's ever known out of jail, or worse.

Gideon Maddox agrees, outlining an outrageous demand: Raven must live in his home for a year while she designs for Maddox Industries' clothing line, signing over her creative rights.

Her handsome young captor is arrogant and infuriating to the ninth degree, and Raven can't imagine working for him, let alone sharing the same space for more than five minutes.

But nothing is ever as it seems. Is Gideon Maddox the monster the world believes him to be? And can he stand to let the young seamstress see him as he really is?

An electrifying retelling of Beauty and Beast with a hauntingly good twist. Julie Reece's new release was addicting, to say the least. It has the right amount of intrigue, romance, suspense, and great character chemistry that made it impossible to put down. I ended up reading it in one sitting.

I love fairytale retellings. Julie Reece's retelling is fantastic! It's unlike anything I've read before. She blends together so many elements to create unique story that is one part mystery, one part romance, and one part suspense. I'll admit, at the beginning I almost lost interest, but it didn't take long for the story to really pick up and hook me. I ended up liking that Reece gives readers a brief history into Raven's current predicament, which how the story begins. It allows readers to understand what's going on and why.

I love how Reece mixed the romantic element and the paranormal element into the story. It worked well with the two main characters, Raven and Gideon. Can we talk about the friction, and that chemistry these two had?! There is a lot going on behind the scenes with Gideon that we only start to understand towards the end of the book. I loved it. Raven on the other hand, this girl is an open book. I loved her strength, and her not taking crap. She's fiercely loyal, and will do anything for those she loves, which is what got her in her predicament with Gideon in the first place. I love her fashion sense.

One of the things I loved about Gideon and Raven's relationship is the fact that these two could push each other's buttons. They don't have a love at first site relationship, though they definitely have an attraction at first site. Raven's inner monologue during some of her moments with Gideon is hilarious. There's more to the story than Gideon and Raven's relationship. I liked the history, and the deadly twist that comes with getting to know more about Gideon, and his family. Mixed into that history is magic, paranormal elements, and a dangerous secret. That twist in the story is one I didn't see coming. Though looking back at the beginning of the story, Reece did a great job at setting up her twist.

There's some great secondary characters, whom added a lot to the story. I enjoyed getting to know them. Especially Raven's closet friends, and Cole. Another thing I liked about the story is the realistic elements Reece included in her story, and the different struggles her characters had. They each come from different walks of life, and the things they each deal with have made them into some pretty amazing characters. Though reading about what they have dwelt with is a little heartbreaking.

I really enjoyed Reece's writing, so much so that I am totally buying this book.  I read this as an e-book, a format I rarely read from. While reading it I kept thinking 1) I need this book on my bookshelves 2) This would make a great movie. While I loved the book over all, there were a few minor things that I may have cringed at while reading the book. This comes from reviewing numerous books over the past few years. I've noticed I knit pick a lot more, but luckily this story was written in a way that it was extremely easy for me to over look those things. There are a lot of other things going on in this book, that kept me reading. I was hooked. Over all this was a fantastic read, and one I would most likely read again.

ABOUT JULIE REECE:

Born in Ohio, I lived next to my grandfather’s horse farm until the fourth grade. Summers were about riding, fishing and make-believe, while winter brought sledding and ice-skating on frozen ponds. Most of life was magical, but not all.

I struggled with multiple learning disabilities, did not excel in school. I spent much of my time looking out windows and daydreaming. In the fourth grade (with the help of one very nice teacher) I fought dyslexia for my right to read, like a prince fights a dragon in order to free the princess locked in a tower, and I won.
Afterwards, I read like a fiend. I invented stories where I could be the princess… or a gifted heroine from another world who kicked bad guy butt to win the heart of a charismatic hero. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? Later, I moved to Florida where I continued to fantasize about superpowers and monsters, fabricating stories (my mother called it lying) and sharing them with my friends.
Then I thought I’d write one down…

Hooked, I’ve been writing ever since. I write historical, contemporary, urban fantasy, adventure, and young adult romances. I love strong heroines, sweeping tales of mystery and epic adventure… which must include a really hot guy. My writing is proof you can work hard to overcome any obstacle. Don’t give up. I say, if you write, write on!
