Walker Books Designer Discusses New Look to UK TMI Covers

Maria Soler Canton of Walker Books is the designer responsible for the new, gorgeous UK covers. She did a post on Inkslingers explaining the inspiration behind the more mature, yet faithful to the original, look:
Our chosen route was to go with an iconic/illustrative cover look and a more sophisticated/mature approach. The aim with this was to use the following:
 - Beautiful, intricate and ornamental illustrations
 - A subtle color palette
 - A high spec: with foil and emboss on some of the cover elements
We also thought about the hierarchy of the elements when designing the covers, making Cassandra’s name bigger, to create a stronger and more recognizable branding. We also added The Shadowhunter Chronicles to reinforce it.
Read the rest of the story behind the covers here.

So what do you think? Do we miss the drawn characters? Bare-chested Jace? I love the color palette and the intricate pattern of the drawings in the new covers.

Catching up with Cassie

You may have noticed that it's a little quiet around here at Mundie Moms. Katie is enjoying the last bits of summer vacation, and I'm surviving the first week of school (how many trips to Office Depot/Walmart/Target does it take to get ALL the supplies for three kids? I think I'm up to 6 so far.). So, this is a catch-up post to the recent Q&As Cassie posted on twitter and tumblr.

As usual, there are spoilers if you're not caught up with all the published books, so proceed with caution!

Q. Hi Cassie!! So its been said that at Shadowhunter weddings both participants are given away by someone close to them. I was just wondering who did this for wessa at their wedding? And jessa if this was there at their wedding. Thank you!!!! — my-chemical-kay

Cassie: Yes, it’s been fun creating the Shadowhunter wedding customs — as we find out in TSFA, Shadowhunters brides aren’t given away by their fathers, but instead both bride and groom are accompanied by a suggenes, someone they are close to in their lives that they select. Could be a parent, could be a parabatai if they’re close — I’m sure Jace and Alec would select each other. We’ll find out in TLH who Tessa and Will picked, and also there’s a flashback to Jem asking Will all the way back in the time of Clockwork Princess. Jem and Tessa didn’t have a Shadowhunter wedding, so they didn’t observe that tradition. Magnus performed the wedding as I suspect he got ordained online from the Church of Snappy Dressing or something.

A Malec Week Snippet from Lady Midnight

In combing through Cassie's tweets, I spied a tiny Malec snippet from Lady Midnight

Malec by Cassandra Jean

 Q. Hey Cassie! I love your books and Magnus and Alec mean the world to me. Since it’s Malec Week, maybe we could have a MALEC SNIPPET? Preferably from Lady Midnight? Love you! Happy Malec Week! — magic-magnus-heaven-sin

Cassie: Thank you so much, awesome username! :) I have had a reaaallly hard time finding nonspoilery snippets of Malec stuff from Lady Midnight. I found something TINY and I hope in combination with the set photo and Cassandra Jean’s drawing, it makes a contribution to the WEEK.

Magnus grinned at her, sideways. “Anyway. It was no big deal for me to stop by here on my way to Buenos Aires.”
“What’s in Buenos Aires?” said Julian.
 “Alec,” Magnus said.

Words are strong. Love is stronger.
When Jordyn Michaelson’s autistic brother joins her at her elite school, she’s determined not to let anyone know they're related. Even if that means closing herself off to all her closest friends, including charming football stud Alex Colby. But despite her best intentions, she just can't shake the memory of kissing Alex last summer, and the desire to do it again.

Can Jordyn find the courage to tell Alex how she really feels—and the truth about her family—before he slips away forever?
