The Shadowhunters of Los Angeles star in the first novel in Cassandra Clare’s newest series, The Dark Artifices, a sequel to the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series. Lady Midnight is a Shadowhunters novel.

It’s been five years since the events of City of Heavenly Fire that brought the Shadowhunters to the brink of oblivion. Emma Carstairs is no longer a child in mourning, but a young woman bent on discovering what killed her parents and avenging her losses.

Together with her parabatai Julian Blackthorn, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches across Los Angeles, from the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica. If only her heart didn’t lead her in treacherous directions…

Making things even more complicated, Julian’s brother Mark—who was captured by the faeries five years ago—has been returned as a bargaining chip. The faeries are desperate to find out who is murdering their kind—and they need the Shadowhunters’ help to do it. But time works differently in faerie, so Mark has barely aged and doesn’t recognize his family. Can he ever truly return to them? Will the faeries really allow it?

Glitz, glamours, and Shadowhunters abound in this heartrending opening to Cassandra Clare’s Dark Artifices series. (Per Amazon)

Cassandra Clare has done it again! She's created a whole new Shadowunters story that gave me new characters to love, to cry with and over, despise, remain hopeful for, as well as had me loving the mention of previously loved characters, and their appearances in this story. She's created a story that broke my heart, pieced it back together again, and had me feeling every range of emotion. Only Cassandra Clare could keep me on the edge of my seat for all 668 pages, and leave me wanting more.

Oh my Shadowhunter heart! This book is absolutely AWESOME! Be prepared to fall in love with a whole new group of Shadowhunters, and non Shadowhunters alike. Cassandra Clare's signature style of writing is enthralling, and utterly engaging. With all new characters to meet, there comes plenty of those heart pounding moments, sweet romantic gestures, danger, betrayal, snark & sass, moments that will break your heart, scenes that will leave your breathless and strong willed characters to fall in love with, that Cassandra Clare is known to write.

Lady Midnight is like coming home!
It reminded me of what it was that first made me fall in love with her characters in City of Bones, and Clockwork Princess. Clare writes her characters in a way that I feel like I've gained lasting friendships. Now that I've finished reading Lady Midnight, I'm left wishing I could literally jump into the book, just to hang out with these characters more. Like her previous series, I love that this book is about strong characters, both male and female. I loved the different roles they all played, and the interaction they have with each other.

I loved the characters in Lady Midnight. I loved getting to know Emma, and the Blackthorn Family. I loved the dynamics that made them a family. Like all families, I liked that this family wasn't perfect. Whether they were related by blood or not, they are family, and what ties them together is love, loyalty and unwavering support. I loved that no matter what is going on around them (which is a lot), they all have each other's backs. I also like that this is a whole new generation of Shadowhunters. Though they are bound by their ancient laws, they have a different perspective on life, love, loss, and what's right and wrong, and following ones heart, vs what they're told to do. They weren't afraid to embrace the more mundane side of things, i.e. the human side.

Lady Midnight is Shadowhunter perfection wrapped in a wide range of emotions that only Clare can make her readers feel, and packed in a stunning cover concealing it's addicting plot twists. It's an action packed story, fueled by love, and doesn't shy away from making it's readers feel every range of emotion possible. It will break you, piece back together again, and leave you wanting more. It's a book that provides answers to those who have read the previous series, and introduces new readers to a whole new world that will have them wanting to know about all of the characters mentioned in this book.

Lady Midnight was far more than I had hoped it would be. I think it's Clare's best book yet, which is saying a lot, considering I didn't think she could top the three books in her The Infernal Devices series. This book was worth the wait! Similar to the previous three series (The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, The Dark Artifices), this new series is one that ties together with them, but it's also one that stands on it's own. This book is all the book feels wrapped up in a riveting story that will leave you wanting the next book in this series! I loved it!
If you haven't already pre-ordered this book, I highly recommend that you do!

Cassandra Clare Shares Lady Midnight Post Card #8 / Mundane Monday #274 #LadyMidnight

Happy Mundane Monday Shadowhunter fans! Check out the new Lady Midnight post card that Cassandra Clare shared this weekend! It's 8th of the set of 10 postcards artist Cassandra Jean has created. Originally shared here, this is what Cassandra had to say about it:

Eighth of Cassandra Jean’s Lady Midnight postcards — Cristina cuts Mark’s hair.

She set her scissors aside and cleared her throat. “There,” she said. “Would you like to see?”He straightened up in the chair. Cristina was bending down; their heads were on a level. “Lean closer,” he said. “For years I have had no mirror; I have learned to make do. The eyes of another can be a mirror more effective than water. If you will look at me, I can see my reflection in yours.”
Check out the other previously shared Lady Midnight post cards:

Cassie had this to say about the other post cards she's previously shared:
A collection of Cassandra Jean’s postcards for Lady Midnight so far — Emma heals Julian, Emma underwater, Johnny Rook in a protective circle, Malcolm and Emma eat pizza, Ty Shadowhunters, and Mark wears only a coat.
We're looking forward to seeing the next two post cards! We can not wait for TOMORROW'S release of Lady Midnight!
