The thrilling first book in a YA fantasy trilogy for fans of Red Queen. In a world where social prestige derives from a trifecta of blood, money, and magic, one girl has the ability to break the spell that holds the social order in place.

Sixteen-year-old Anna Arden is barred from society by a defect of blood. Though her family is part of the Luminate, powerful users of magic, she is Barren, unable to perform the simplest spells. Anna would do anything to belong. But her fate takes another course when, after inadvertently breaking her sister’s debutante spell—an important chance for a highborn young woman to show her prowess with magic—Anna finds herself exiled to her family’s once powerful but now crumbling native Hungary.

Her life might well be over.

In Hungary, Anna discovers that nothing is quite as it seems. Not the people around her, from her aloof cousin Noémi to the fierce and handsome Romani Gábor. Not the society she’s known all her life, for discontent with the Luminate is sweeping the land. And not her lack of magic. Isolated from the only world she cares about, Anna still can’t seem to stop herself from breaking spells.

As rebellion spreads across the region, Anna’s unique ability becomes the catalyst everyone is seeking. In the company of nobles, revolutionaries, and Romanies, Anna must choose: deny her unique power and cling to the life she’s always wanted, or embrace her ability and change that world forever.

This is a book I've been waiting to read ever since I revealed it's stunning cover. With it's Slavic mythology, rich history, the turn of the century setting, magic, romance, adventure and more, this was a debut I couldn't put down once I started it. Blood Rose Rebellion is a thrilling first book in a series I can't wait to read.

Eves is a wonderful writer. She captured my attention from the moment I started her debut. From the way she writes her her story, to the way her  characters are developed. I enjoyed getting to know each of them, even despite my not liking each character. They each had a purpose in this story, and it was interesting to see how intertwined many of them were. Oh and the scandal is so good! What comes about because of the scandal, is where the story really starts...

Anna, by far, was the character I admired the most. She's a strong, stubborn character who was exactly as I'd expect her be. She made choices I could see myself making if I was in her shoes. Maybe I liked her too, because she does the exact opposite of what she's excepted to do in her society. I sympathized with her throughout her journey. She grew so much during this time, I couldn't help but root for her the way way. I loved what she learns and realizes about herself by the time her journey is through. She comes out a much stronger, wiser, and more centered, because of what she realizes and learns about herself.

What I loved the most about this book, is the way Eves infuses history, fantasy, magic, and mythology, to create a story that easily springs to life within the pages of this book. I am a sucker for fantasy, especially when it has a historical setting, like this book has. I loved the Hungarian history. Eves research on the culture and history during the mid-1800's, when the story is set, was evident in her writing. It was so beautifully written.

I thoroughly enjoyed getting wrapped up into this story. Even though there are times the plot is a little too slow, and some character revelations happen a bit to prematurely, I couldn't stop reading this book. Normally those things would bug me as a reader, that I would stop reading the book. There is so much more going on in this story that those things didn't phase me as much. This is a book that once I started reading it, there was no putting it down. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

ABOUT AUTHOR

Rosalyn Eves grew up in the Rocky Mountains, dividing her time between reading books and bossing her siblings into performing her dramatic scripts. As an adult, the telling and reading of stories is still one of her favorite things to do. When she’s not reading or writing, she enjoys spending time with her chemistry professor husband and three children, watching British period pieces, or hiking through the splendid landscape of southern Utah, where she lives. She dislikes housework on principle. Her first book, BLOOD ROSE REBELLION, comes out Spring 2017 from Knopf.
