Brooding YA Hero: Becoming a Main Character (Almost) as Awesome as Me by Carrie Ann DiRisio / Interview w/ Broody & Giveaway #BroodingYAHero

Today on Mundie Moms is all about being a BROODING YA HERO. My favorite Brooding YA Hero is here on the blog today to share with us his 10 steps in how to be the perfect brooding YA hero. If you're not following Broody McHottiePants on Twitter, you're missing out. Trust me, you want to follow him (here).

Broody is the main character in the book, Brooding YA Hero: Becoming a Main Character (Almost) as Awesome as Me, which will be out on October 3, 2017, written by his author, Carrie Ann DiRisio. Trust me, you don't want to miss Brody's steps in being a brooding hero. After you read and hopefully follow his steps, be sure to check out the giveaway at the end of this post. Trust me, it's both Broody and Carrie approved.

BROODY'S TEN STEPS TO BECOME A HERO

Hello, and welcome to Broody’s Ten Steps To Become a Hero. I’m your host, Broody McHottiepants, more commonly known as BroodingYAhero over on Twitter. Please know I’m using hero in the gender-neutral sense here. Anyone can be a hero. Well, maybe not my evil ex… but that’s a story for another time.

Step Zero
Buy my books. How can you truly achieve Main Character Status without learning all the secrets I reveal to you in its lush, vivid, adjective-filled pages?
(buy link here)

Step One:
Decide what type of hero you’d like to be. Are you a member of a long-lost royal family? A rock star with a soft side? An ordinary high school student who happens to be a were-lemur?
The options are endless!

Step Two
Find a reflective surface.
Anything will do. A mirror, a clear pond, a robot’s gleaming shoulder...

Step Three
Describe yourself
Now that you’re staring at your reflection, get to work informing the reader of your beauty. Use lots and lots of adjectives. Make sure to describe your hair color and your eye color with as many metaphors as possible too. Don’t stop until you’ve spent at least three paragraphs describing yourself.

Step Four
Save the world
You are a hero now, right? So, what are you waiting for! Do something heroic. Don’t ask me for pointers on this topic. It’s up to you to complete your destiny. (at least that’s what my mentor always says to me, right before he disappears/dies/stops being helpful.)

Step  Five
Meet other characters
This is a great time to meet some supporting characters. You know, your comic relief, your mentor… anyone that will help you look good without stealing the scene. I’m always careful to never befriend anyone funnier, smarter, or better-looking than me, just to ensure they don’t end up becoming the actual hero of my novel.

Step Six
Try to save the world again.
Err… okay. So maybe you didn’t manage to save the world successfully that first time. No worries! Try again.
Maybe those supporting characters might help.
Or maybe they won’t.
Look, unless it’s the end of the book, your odds of actually saving the world are pretty slim.

Step Seven
BROOD
(you really didn’t think I was going to skip this step, did you?)
In order to have a good long brooding spell, you must first find a suitably emotionally dark location. A forest, or a castle library, or anywhere it’s raining. Then, huddle in a handsome little ball, and proceed to stew over all your emotions.
Repeat until there are three chapters left of the book.

Step Eight
Fall in love. Or don’t!
It’s totally up to you to decide if you’ll have a love interest. I usually do, but that’s just me. Make your own choices. If you do find a love interest, be sure to describe them with as ALMOST as many adjectives as you do for yourself. Be sure to save a few of the really good ones for yourself.

Step Nine
Finally get around to saving the world.
Do the thing. I bet you finally know how to by now. If you don’t, repeat the steps. Or call me. I’d gladly swoop in and save the day… provided I get to be on the cover of your book.

Step Ten
SEQUELS!
No hero’s journey is ever complete in one novel. I highly recommend sequels, movie-deals, and prequels as a way of ensuring no one ever forgets your name. At the very least, you want to be famous enough to have an action figure, don’t you? Isn’t that why you saved the world?
Well. That’s why I save world. That and everyone’s undying love, of course.
