Adeluna is a soldier. Five years ago, she helped the magic-rich island of Grace Loray overthrow its oppressor, Argrid, a country ruled by religion. But adjusting to postwar life has not been easy. When an Argridian delegate vanishes during peace talks with Grace Loray’s new Council, Argrid demands brutal justice—but Lu suspects something more dangerous is at work.

Devereux is a pirate. As one of the outlaws called stream raiders who run rampant on Grace Loray, he pirates the island’s magic plants and sells them on the black market. But after Argrid accuses raiders of the diplomat’s abduction, Vex becomes a target. An expert navigator, he agrees to help Lu find the Argridian—but the truth they uncover could be deadlier than any war.

Benat is a heretic. The crown prince of Argrid, he harbors a secret obsession with Grace Loray’s forbidden magic. When Ben’s father, the king, gives him the shocking task of reversing Argrid’s fear of magic, Ben has to decide if one prince can change a devout country—or if he’s building his own pyre.

As conspiracies arise, Lu, Vex, and Ben will have to decide who they really are . . . and what they are willing to become for peace.

I am so excited about this book's release next year! It's one my 2018 most anticipated reads list. While I only received one book for Christmas, I'm counting this lovely surprise as well, because an arc of it arrived from the publisher right before Christmas. I can not wait to give into it during the holidays. This cover is seriously stunning! I love it. What book are you waiting to get your hands on?

Mundie Moms 2017 Favorites: Characters #MMs17Favs

This week we're counting our MUNDIE MOMS FAVORITES of 2017. Today's favorites post is our ten favorite characters from books we read in 2017. Check out our list below, and let us know in the comments who your favorite characters were from this year.

SOPHIE'S 5 Favorite Characters of 2017

- Louna from Sarah Dessen's ONCE AND FOR ALL.  As the daughter of a wedding planner, Louna is caught up in lots of happily ever afters, but will she ever find hers? I loved her distrustful nature, which was completely justified, and I loved all the weddings, the hoopla, the drama of the events. But most of all, I loved how she was surrounded by her mom and friends. It was a good reminder that whenever we think we're alone, we just have to look around and see that we're surrounded by people who care.

- Aza from John Green's TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN. Aza's struggles with her OCD leave her fragmented, at times. Although, she's surrounded by a good (seemingly) friend and her always-worried mother, Aza's path to come to grips with her disease is her own. They way this was depicted was achingly in turns lovely and worrisome. If you are hesitating to read this, stop and pick it up.

- Kit from Cassandra Clare's LORD OF SHADOWS. I found his Herondale sense of humor something that I looked forward to with every turn of the page.

-Ashish from Sandhya Menon's WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI. I loved both Dimple and Rishi, but my heart was stolen completely by Ashish. He is so opposite of Rishi, and in Sandhya's deft hands, he becomes a character you completely understand and grow to love.

- Atticus Finch from Harper Lee's TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. I know, I know, this isn't a 2017 book, but I read it for the first time this year. It's one of those classics that I didn't read in high school, because I took way too many Shakespeare classes. So for me, Atticus Finch wins the Best Fictional Father Award this year and every year.

EMMALY'S 5 Favorite Characters of 2017

-Harris from No Limits by Ellie Marney. He has some struggles this boy and everything around him is pushing him to do the wrong thing and go the wrong way. But ultimately he is true to himself and his desire to do right in the world

- Jules from Unearthed by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner. I know not out yet in USA but is a 2017 book for me because it got released in Australia in late Nov ‘17. He has a mission and spends him time solving incredible problems but he seems to try to find the good in everything. He enjoys the challenges and loves life.

- Natasha & Daniel from The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon. I couldn’t pick between these two because I think what makes their characters so great is how they are when they are together. And how one will make the other challenge everything about themselves.

- Ady from Take Three Girls by Cath Crowley Fiona Wood & Simmone Howell. On the surface you may think things are falling apart, but in reality she has got it all together. Smart funny and ok with being just a little bit different she turns out to be the ultimate BFF

- Livia in Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare. This girl reminded me a lot of my daughter. Strong fierce and forever loyal to her family. She is someone you want on your side and will love you or hate you for ever depending on how you treat those dear to her.
