Thank you to Penguin Teen for provided an arc in exchange for my honest review

The blistering sequel to the instant New York Times bestselling Nemesis by Brendan Reichs.

Noah Livingston knows he is destined to survive.

The 64 members of Fire Lake's sophomore class are trapped in a place where morals have no meaning and zero rules apply. But Noah's deaths have trained him-hardened him-to lead the strongest into the future ... whatever that may be. And at any cost.

Min Wilder knows that survival alone isn't enough.

In a violent world where brute force passes for leadership, it's tempting to lay back and let everyone else battle it out. But Min's instincts rebel against allowing others to decide who lives and who dies. She's ready to fight for what she believes in. And against whomever might stand in her way.

MY REVIEW

A thrilling, highly addictive, action packed sequel full of unpredicted twists and turns. Once I started this book, there was no putting it down until I finished it. Like it's predecessor, GENESIS is a mesmerizing, dangerous, apocalyptic world where anything is possible. It's full of action, betrayal, conspiracies, and twists I didn't see coming. I can hardly wait for the next book.

Picking up right after NEMESIS ends, Reiches wastes no time thrusting his readers right back into the intense storyline. I was quickly reminded to expect the unexpected, because nothing about this book is predictable. Just as you think you have something figured out, you realize just how far off you really were, and that what you thought you had figured out, was just barely scratching the surface of something much more complex.

The world building is an apocalyptic masterpiece. This series, and especially this book, really are a great combination of what you'd except if Reichs wrote his own version of The Matrix set in the world of Lord of the Flies. It's cruel, brutal, and one the characters have to learn to adapt to on a whim. I thoroughly enjoyed the revelations and getting a much deeper, more complex look into the world of Project Nemesis. It's not at all what I was excepting. Talk about a shocking revelation, or two. Wow.

It's been incredibly interesting watching the characters, especially Min, Noah and Tuck, continue to grow, and evolve in this fast paced, brutal world. They've been forced to adapt quickly to all that is going on. There's a lot that is thrown at them in this book. Though I wish I could elaborate on the details, there's so much more to each of their stories. I liked that this book is told from both Min and Noah's points of views. I was fascinated not only with Min, Noah and Tuck, but also shocked at the turn of events with a couple of the characters towards the end of the book.

I NEED THE NEXT BOOK! There is so much that is revealed in this book that I was not excepting. Yet I feel like Reiches is only giving readers a small glimpse of the complexity behind what's controlling the character's world. Normally I'm not a fan of apocalyptic storylines, however, Reiches's writing is the exception. His series is one that has held my attention so much so, that I have read both books in this series in one sitting. Don't be fooled by this almost 500 page book, it is a fast paced read. This ending is the perfect set up into the next book. I can not wait to read to it!

* There is some violence, and mild language in this book

ABOUT THE SERIES

Orphan Black meets Lord of the Flies in this riveting new thriller from the co-author of the Virals series.

It’s been happening since Min was eight. Every two years, on her birthday, a strange man finds her and murders her in cold blood. But hours later, she wakes up in a clearing just outside her tiny Idaho hometown—alone, unhurt, and with all evidence of the horrifying crime erased.

Across the valley, Noah just wants to be like everyone else. But he’s not. Nightmares of murder and death plague him, though he does his best to hide the signs. But when the world around him begins to spiral toward panic and destruction, Noah discovers that people have been lying to him his whole life. Everything changes in an eye blink.

For the planet has a bigger problem. The Anvil, an enormous asteroid threatening all life on Earth, leaves little room for two troubled teens. Yet on her sixteenth birthday, as she cowers in her bedroom, hoping not to die for the fifth time, Min has had enough. She vows to discover what is happening in Fire Lake and uncovers a lifetime of lies: a vast conspiracy involving the sixty-four students of her sophomore class, one that may be even more sinister than the murders.
