4.5 stars- I really enjoyed it

Laurel hasn't seen Tamani since she begged him to let her go last year. Though her heart still aches, Laurel is confident that David was the right choice.

But just as life is returning to normal, Laurel discovers that a hidden enemy lies in wait. Once again, Laurel must turn to Tamani to protect and guide her, for the danger that now threatens Avalon is one that no faerie thought would ever be possible. And for the first time, Laurel cannot be sure that her side will prevail (quoted from Goodreads).

What I love most about the Wings series is Aprilynne's fairy-lore and her Avalon, both of which we get to see a lot more of in Illusions. While there's not a lot of action until closer to the end, I did enjoy just getting to know the characters more and reading about their interactions at school. If you liked Tamani before, wait till you read about him in Illusions. Not only is he not giving up on Laurel, but he's an exchange student from Scotland and yep, he has an accent. Even Shar gets a new role in Illusions as Tam's Uncle, and for some reason I found that comical. I loved that some of the book is told from Tamani's point of view. It was nice being able to understand him a little bit more.

Another relationship, well I'm not sure if it should be called that, was Tamani and David. Aprilynne Pike did a great job at writing their realistic, not so friendly interactions and their constant need to remind the other of their place. I couldn't blame David for being jealous of Tamani and Laurel's relationship, and things heat up more now that Tamani shadows Laurel where ever she goes. It was refreshing seeing a different side to the always so put together David. I'm a little mixed with Laurel's character. There were times I was a little annoyed with her and how immature I felt she acted, and then there's other times I really liked the choices she makes, like the decisions she makes between Tamani and David. Nope, I'm not giving away any spoilers, and it's nothing big, but I felt Laurel made the right decision for her.

Illusions definitely has romance, a few great kissy scenes, action and some fabulous twists. I may have mentally yelled NO with the cliff hanger at the end. It leaves me wondering want is going to happen next. There's definitely some unanswered questions that I'm looking forward to seeing answered in the next installment in the series. I think Illusions is a fantastic follow up to Spells and I definitely recommend picking it up.

  1. I have to pick this one up...I keep forgetting to...and it'll be like visiting with old friends. It seems so long ago that I read Wings. Should be fun.

  2. I agree with you on the Laurel front, there were moments where I wasn't so happy with her choices but the big one near the end improved the situation.
The cliff hanger though!!!! arrrgh! It was brutal, I NEED to know what's going on. hahahaha.
