Clockwork Angel Read Along Day 13: Chapter 12 Blood & Water

It's day 13 of our Clockwork Angel Read Along! Please be sure to visit our link here for our schedule, guidelines and to fill out the form to be entered to win some fabulous prizes. Feel free to answer any number of the questions asked. You don't need to answer all of them if you don't wish to.

Today we're discussing chapter 12. Holy, holy water! Let's talk about that hot kiss between Will & Tessa..... oh wait, there's more to discuss than that. Okay, before we discuss the kiss, there's that important revelation from Brother Enoch about Tessa's power and the confusion over what Tessa is and what Nate isn't.

* I'm completely intrigued with what Brother Enoch sees in Tessa. I'm even more curious at how Tessa is a Downworlder and Nate is not. I don't want to give anything away, but I'm curious at what your theories are with Tessa and Nate.

* Having already CA, this whole chapter with Nate makes me despise him even more. I'm curious on what everyone's take on Nate is so far. Is he a victim or do you think there's something more? If you've already read CA, please keep your answer SPOILER FREE

* Let's talk about that hot little scene between Tessa and Will. WOW. Talk about hot. 1) Do you think Will will be able to fight over what's ailing him or possibly turn? 2) What do you think came over Will at the end of the chapter? Do you think he's fighting fallen for Tessa or do you think it's something else entirely? Could Will be keeping a secret that's keeping him from pursuing something with Tessa?

  1. Just to say, I prefer Will POV of the attic scene www.cassandraclare.com/cms/loss1

I just despise Nate, he helped those monsters to torture his sister. Nothing excuse that...

  2. Wow this is a very hard chapter to discuss when you have already read the book before.

*I don't think I can answer the question about Tessa and Nate without saying too much so I will just say that I think it's interesting about Brother Enoch saying that Tessa is different, and has something other warlocks do not.

*At this point in the book I figured there was something not great about the whole situation with Nate. It seems he knows too much and he was involved with the wrong people.

*I think that Will is falling for Tessa, but something that happened in his past is keeping him from letting himself feel that way.(or maybe something that is happening in the present that we don't know about yet) It brings me back to thinking about their talk about The Tale of Two Cities, and maybe he thinks he isn't good enough for her.

  3. It's hard to say anything about Tessa/Nate cause I've already read it and don't want to accidentally say too much!

I think maybe Will is fighting his feelings for Tessa BECAUSE of something else that happened to him in the past. Heck, maybe even presently for all we know.

  4. I found Nate to be annoying the first time I read this chapter. In some ways I thought he might be a victim but I definitely thought there was something more going on with him.

I would really like to know what Will's secret is. I think he's fighting his feelings for Tessa because he doesn't want anyone to get too close to him.

  5. Luna- I do too. The first time I read CA, I was a little unsure about him.

Amy- I know, it is. Great comments, thank you!

Cammy- I agree. There's so much about Will we don't yet know.

Nakoya- I thought the same thing about Nate on the first read through.

  6. haha, like clockwork!

It is all very confusing. Since it was about a year ago that I read CA last I don't remember that much so I couldn't spoil if I anted to :P I still have a feeling they are related somehow. Maybe just the same mother. I just don't really know what happend to Tessa to make her have the warlock wibe... Or they aren't related at all and Tessa is some experiment that Nate's parents stole to protect.

I think Nate is a baby and annoying. Might just be the thing the vamps gave him... all I know is that he annoys me.

Turning as in becoming a vamp? no.. not a chance. As for what came over him... There is obviously something that happend in the past. Maybe he thinks that everyone he loves comes to harm or that he doesn't desereve it... or somethingeven worse. Something might be wrong like.. pysicaly.... hm.

  7. Can I just say that never has someone taking off another person's gloves seemed so hot. I also think that he's fighting his feelings for Tessa because he doesn't want anyone to get too close to him. I think that *maybe* he was hurt in the past and that he built this wall up around him--a wall that he is afraid to let come down.

  8. * I was a bit shocked when I read that Tessa is a Downworlder adn Nate don't.. First thing that came to my mind? Tessa is not exactly Nate's Sister. Well, they obviously are, but something dark is going on there.

    * Nate confuse me. It looks like he was playing with fire, he wanted to be part of the pandemonium club but it didn't work fine for him obviously. He looks like a victim, and he was so happy to see Tessa again, but I don't like him that much.

    * Will is such a big misterious. At the beginning he's always nice to her, talking, blah blah, and then, suddently, there's like a 'click' and he changes... Like in the library. Gosh I'm wondering what's in Will's mind? >.<

  9. Shocking that Tessa is a downworlder yet something special even for them...also different from Nate Leaves me with many questions...

The more I learn about Nate the less I like him...self-serving...untrustworthy...

And the kiss...OMG...woryy about Will...feels so much for Tessa but keeps it under lock...something is holding him back...wish we knew what...hope he can get past it....

  10. I hate Nate though since this has to be spoiler free, I won't say why. ;)

I think Brother Enoch is going to play an important role in the discovery of Tessa's identity. I wonder if he's going to appear in the Mortal Instruments series later on.

The kiss was... *blushes* It was kind of perfect for that time in history. Tessa seemed so shocked! Something is definitely holding him back though. I wonder what that is... maybe a past love interest? Or maybe he did something bad and hates himself - a lot like Jace Herondale did. I hope he gets over it soon.

  11. I think maybe tessa was adopted, or maybe her mother had an affair :O

by the way nate is talking in his dilerium, it seems like he may have betrayed his sister to the magister. The little twirp! So cold, and his sister fought so hard for him.

I son't think will will turn, hes to strong for that. And i think maybe he was afraid he would take advantage of tessa, maybe he thought he was starting off too strong. Or maybe he is just pushing her away because he thinks he's no good for her.

  12. Tessa and Nate- Wow. They are nothing alike. One of my first thoughts was that they are total opposites and not in a family-like way. What Brother Enoch said only hammered this point harder down. As I am keeping this spoiler-free, I am only saying that Nate is one I love and hate all at the same time.
HOLY HOTNESS!!! Will and Tessa. I can't help but read this and hope it was Jem. I feel like I need a disclaimer here. GO TEAM JEM!! I heart me Jem. But as for Will, I think he is hiding something. His feelings are so clear but he still holds everyone at arms length. Its just like Jace was about his feelings and Alec was about his feelings and even Luke. They had feelings for someone but they kept it secret because of something else. Which is totally rediculous. But thats just my oppinion. This issue with romance seems to be a recurring theme.

  13. I totally forgot about that power comment that brother Enoch made. Tessa is destined to do something really special. We know she's unique, but theres more to it than that.

The first time I read this I really felt sorry for Nate. I guess I thought about my own brother and how I'd feel to finally get him back. Now, reading it a second time. .. Yuck!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think we will be seeing more of Brother Enoch. I think it can go two ways: 1)Tessa and Nate share the same parents but Tessa's powers could have been from a ritual/experiment done to her mother. 2)Nate and Tessa only share the same mother, so Tessa has downworlder father.

This chapter made me decide I do not like Nate. He is a selfish person. His only goal is what is best for him.

The attic scene! OMG!! Will is no doubt falling for Tessa. Will seems scared by his overwhelming feelings he has. He is in so much pain over this because he feels Tessa deserves better. He does have a secret that he is keeping that makes him not be the Will he use to be.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hmmm... do you think Tessa's adopted? Or maybe Nate is? I I don't really remember the ending of CA anywmore, so I hope that's not a spoiler. :)

And ohhh the attic scene! No duh Will's in love with Tessa! :D

And I HATE NATE! Ugh. Hate that guy's guts.

  16. Nate is not a downworlder and Tessa is...screams that they are not from the same parents! I'm intrigued!

I think WIll has a lot of personal demons he needs to contend with and that is preventing him from having healthy relationships with pretty much everyone, except Jem. I think there will be a lot revealed about him in this book and the next.

    ReplyDelete
  17. * I thought it was interesting how Tessa is a Downworlder and Nate is not. I still wonder what she is since even Brother Enoch does not know.

    * Nate - All I will say, is when I first read CA, I did not know what to think of him.

    * Will has feelings for Tessa, and he is definitely fighting them. I think he is punishing himself about something in his past.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm agreeing that Tessa's power seems to be from something done to her or her mother since Nate isn't gifted.
Nate comes off as whiney, and should have stood up for Tessa in the first place.

Love the attic scene! I don't think Will will turn into a vampire. Maybe that isn't possible since he has angel blood in him.
He had better not go all Jace/Edward/Prince Ash and leave Tessa for her own good. Even though I love Jem, I think Tessa would be the making of Will.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I don't think Nate is entirely a victim. I think there is more to the story than that.

I hope Will isn't going to turn. I think he's fighting something more than just falling in love with Tessa. Hopefully we'll find out more about his past soon.

  20. For some odd reason I never liked Nate. But I am curious as to why he doesn't have the same abilities as Tessa.

It's totally obvious that Will is falling for Tessa. I think that he's pushing Tessa away because of his secret.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It was very interesting when Brother Enoch revealed that Tessa is indeed a Downworlder and her brother Nate is not. Even with that new information I still think Tessa and Nate are related. Even Will could see that they look alike so I'm guessing that either Nate is mundane or he has powers and there hidden.

I never liked Nate from the start and after reading this much I don't see why even Tessa likes him. He is just a brat that likes to get in trouble and then rely on his family to bail him out. I do not see him as a victim whatever he did I think he did knowingly. Nate likes trouble and I so don't like him.

I loved this scene between Will and Tessa. Will is troubled and I do think there is a huge secret he keeping from everyone, especially Tessa. Whatever it is he stopped the kiss and pushed Tessa away yet again. I think he will be able to fight his secret. It has to be huge because Will obviously loves Tessa and vice versa but he is trying with all his might to keep away. I hope he figures it out soon because they are so cute together but I think it will take the whole series to pull Will together because of this secret and how big it is.

  22. Nate isn't someone to trust and Tessa is blinded by her love for him. I don't think I ever really trusted him. Funny how Will seems to be the only one who thinks he is less than a victim.
Will and Tessa - wow! It's amazing how much feeling can be illustrated in one brief scene. Will is definitely hiding something. I felt so heartbroken for Tessa at the end of this scene. I don't think Will had any intention of her feeling like it was her fault. Even though this is the 3rd time I've read the book, all the emotions were still there. *sigh* It seems to get better every time.

  23. I think that the reason Nate is not a downworlder, but Tessa is is because they are not really brother and sister. Everything Tessa thought she was/is is a lie. I also think there is something more to Nate. I have a nasty feeling about him.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't think Will will end up turning. seems like this happens a lot; he knows how to fix it ;) He must have some dark secrets. What guy would refuse a steamy makeout session if he didn't?

I'm curious to find out what Tessa really is and why she's special but Nate isn't. I can't think of any reason other than her being adopted or something =/

    ReplyDelete
  25. i was also quite curious as to nate not being a downworlder. esp. because he's been involved with them - this made me wonder if he knew tessa was a downworlder. that being said, i reckon nate might be tessa's half brother. or if not even that, just someone that she lived with during her childhood, and not actually her brother. nate's described as a really handsome guy, right? tessa and nate don't really look like each other, so i suppose that could mean they're not related.

nate.. as i've said in earlier responses, there's something fishy with him. him not being a downworlder, but being involved with downworlders and even about to face execution by the vampires.. he must've done something bad. the vampires don't publicly execute mundanes like that, so nate must've done something bad. he's not just a victim.

ahhhh i was waiting for something like that to happen between will and tessa. especially after reading will's POV in the attic, you can tell that will's trying to keep something. sometimes he loses control, like what happened in the attic because he was delirious from the vampire blood, and when he snaps back into keeping himself and his secrets secluded from everyone else, he does end up hurting others. (like jace, me thinks.) he's definitely got some feelings and desire for tessa, but the way he distances himself from her and everyone else shows that he's keeping something from them. well, whatever is tormenting will, i hope he gets over it and tells tessa :D

  26. Thank you for all your wonderful thoughts!

  27. - I'm guessing Tessa is product of a experiment and Nate is not ? I'm really confused and curious about all this. And it called my attention when Tessa told Jem that Nate might not be entirely her brother...mhmm.

    - I really hope he fights it, at least in the next two books. Well I think it's obvious he's keeping a secret that has to do with himself and his family. And maybe Cecily ? Whoever that is, and that's what has made him the way he is and why he won't pursue anything with Tessa.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Tessa isnt really related to Nate. I mean it is the most likely answer. If she is a warlock Nate is most likely her half brother.
I do not like Nate. period. He can go live with annoying Jessamine.

No way Will is turning. We don't need another SImon.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The scene between Tessa and Will really made me feel like there was something deep and dark that was eating at Will. He so clearly has feelings for Tessa, yet he can't resolve whatever it is that's torturing him.

    ReplyDelete
  30. ajfkau...Nate...@!#$%*.

I'm Team Jem, but I'll be the first one to admit that this scene was sexy. But, Will has some major issues to work out before he can even consider being with Tessa.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Will is the kind of person who doesn't believe he deserves to be happy, hence his self-depriving attitude towards Tessa. In the previous chapter, while we're in his head, he says something about getting very good at not thinking about Tessa, which just proves the point that he's in love with her. She's obviously quite taken with him throughout the book before this scene, and the tension between them comes to a head when they kiss. With their true feelings revealed, Will feels that he's showing weakness and pushes her away (yet again.) I'm curious to see how and if he'll ever change and allow someone to truly love him besides Jem.

    PS HOT HOT HOT!

  32. I think Tessa is a downworlder yes, I was just wondering what and why is Tessa different from other downworlders? I couldn't of anything possible but I hope Nate could bring more answers to the burning question of what really Tessa is.

I think there IS something more from Nate. I think he is tormented with the fact that he knows what Tessa really is.

Will is a very mysterious character which I really admire just for the fact that you don't know what will happen next and the kissing scene between him and Tessa is really hot but the moment he stopped himself from what they are doing I think Will has something behind that keeps him from liking Tessa. I think it has something to do with Downworlders.
