Cover Reveal: CROAK by Gina Damico

We're excited to be revealing the cover for debut author Gina Damico's upcoming YA release for CROAK. Along with the cover reveal, we're also hosting a giveaway for two ARCs of CROAK! First, here's the cover and a little bit about the book:

Published by: Graphia/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
To Be Released on: March 20, 2012
Pre-Order the book at: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | IndieBound

Sixteen-year-old Lex Bartleby has sucker-punched her last classmate. Fed up with her punkish, wild behavior, her parents ship her off to upstate New York to live with her Uncle Mort for the summer, hoping that a few months of dirty farm work will whip her back into shape. But Uncle Mort’s true occupation is much dirtier than that of shoveling manure.
He’s a Grim Reaper. And he’s going to teach her the family business.
Lex quickly assimilates into the peculiar world of Croak, a town populated entirely by reapers who deliver souls from this life to the next. Along with her infuriating yet intriguing partner Driggs and a rockstar crew of fellow Grim apprentices, Lex is soon zapping her Targets like a natural born Killer.
Yet her innate ability morphs into an unchecked desire for justice—or is it vengeance?—whenever she’s forced to Kill a murder victim, craving to stop the attackers before they can strike again. So when people start to die—that is, people who aren’t supposed to be dying, people who have committed grievous crimes against the innocent—Lex’s curiosity is piqued. Her obsession grows as the bodies pile up, and a troubling question begins to swirl through her mind: if she succeeds in tracking down the murderer, will she stop the carnage—or will she ditch Croak and join in?

What do you guys think? I think the cover matches the synopsis perfectly. I'm looking forward to finding out more about Lex's story this coming spring.

Just in case you're not able to make out what the quote on the book says, author Adam Rex said, "Go ahead and die laughing, knowing that the safe transport of your mortal soul will be the summer job of a sweetheart teen with a godlike power and discipline problems. A lot of books make me wish I could live within their pages, but I wouldn't mind dying in this one."

To enter, please leave us a comment letting us know what you think about the cover, along with your email address. US residents only (please). This giveaway will end on November 22nd, 2011. I'll announce the two winners the following day.

  2. I love the cover! I think it's awesome how they updated the Grim Reaper image by (1) Making it a female, (2) having her wear a hoodie, & (3) making the text/title contemporary!

I've had this on my Goodreads for a while, so I'm excited to get a chance to read it!

  11. For a moment when I saw the cover I was like... "Hmmmmmmm." than "Cool, interesting... different." Plain and simple. I mean, I usually judge books by their cover a tiny... quite a bit, but as odd as I think this one is (to me, as I wouldn't normally pick up a book with a cove like this)it intrigues me. I totally want this.

  12. I am a bit torn on this cover. I love the the skull in Croak and I think the girl looks awesome, but there is ton of white! Then again all the white allows me to see the gleam on the blade so that is pretty neat. Over all I do like it and I would definitely pick this up if I saw it on a shelf!

  45. The cover is pretty awesome. The picture itself is so cool. I also love the scythe, and the skull in the "o". The only thing I wish was a little different, was if the font was a little less like a kindergartener with a crayon. But that opinion might change once I read the book =]

  54. I like the cover but i think they could have done better to bring the whole 'Grim Reaper' image out and make it seem more creepy and "addictive"? Is that the right word? No, more poppy to catch the person's attention i think but other than that i think it matches the title and synopsis pretty well. :)
