Today's discussion is about: Chapter 9: From Fire Unto Fire

Though this chapter is short, it's jam packed with all sorts of exciting events. There's the hot alley make out scene between Jace & Clary, Simon getting caught attacking Maureen by Kyle, Simon get confronted by both Izzy and Maia and the shockingly revelation of who Kyle is, is brought to light when Maia sees him with Simon.
  • First off, holy hotness! I was not excepting that hot of a make out scene between Jace and Clary. In fact, I wasn't expecting a make out scene at all. I had some hope that they'd fix whatever is going on between them until Izzy (once again) interrupts them and then Jace returns back to his cold self. Seriously, what do you think is going on with Jace? He's really starting to irritate me at this point with this I love you Clary, but I'm not going to talk to you attitude.
  • Oh Simon! Part of me feels bad for Simon over the issue with the girls, but at the same time he totally deserves that confrontation he gets from Izzy and Maia. Though I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of Izzy and Maia's irritation. Out of curiosity, which girl would you want Simon to date?
  • I knew it! I knew there was something else to Kyle, but I never would have guessed he was Maia's Jordan. I have to say, I wish the chapter didn't end with Maia lunging at Kyle. I totally want to know if she kicks his butt. How do you think this shocking revelation will play out in the book? Do you guys trust Kyle knowing what he did to Maia?

Please DO NOT POST SPOILERS. There's some fans who are joining the read-a-long who are reading COFA for the first time.

  1. Yeah, there was so much to love about that scene. *sigh*
If I had to choose someone for Simon, I still think I would choose Izzy.
No comment on the Maia/Kyle issue. It would be too easy to give something away. :)

  2. Cassie can write the most amazing love scenes I have ever read! She is the master!!!!

  3. *Ughhh okay, so irritated at Jace, but OMG the hotness of that scene!! I had forgotten just how hot and awesome that scene was until I read it again. I also forgot how infuriating Jace's behavior was. I mean now I get it, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating reading it again.

*I don't feel bad for Simon. He totally deserved that. He knew he did. I still think he and Izzy are a great match. I really think that they balance each other out since they are like polar opposites.

*I was seriously shocked that Kyle is Jordan!! I was all about Maia attacking him. Ummm I don't remember what I was thinking the first time around. I don't think I was very happy with the situation at all and I thought Jordan was a tool.

  4. *Oh how I love the alley scene. The rain makes everything more dramatic. At the same time, it did kind of bother me that they didn't really fix any of what was going on between them. And I agree, Jace is being weird and mean.

*I thought the Izze and Maia confrontation was hilarious. I love how they kind of teamed up. If I had to choose, I would pick Izze for Simon. I think they're a better match and more fun to read about.

*I definitely didn't trust Kyle after finding out what he did to Maia. That's twice now that he's lied!

  5. The alley scene was AWESOME, but it also personifies Jace and Clary's relationship, to this point. They need each other, but the passion sometimes gets in the way of confronting their issues.

I didn't really feel that sorry for Simon, but I thought it was kind of cute that he did a typical, dumb boy thing. :)

I was very surprised to find out who Kyle really was! I immediately had hope that they would both find closure because their past is obviously haunting them, still.

  6. I think having those nightmares is really playing with Jace's mind. I mean he dreamed about stabbing Clary that's pretty twisted. I know that Jace would never hurt Clary at all but at the same time he doesn't want to push his luck by being around her. So even though Jace is being mean and hurtful, I think he is trying to keep Clary safe.
Simon should have said something to Izzy and Maia so he definitely deserved getting told off by them. I want him to end with Izzy. Simon obviously gets the real her and even though Izzy might not act it, it's obvious she cares for Simon. Maia is cool but I have only seen them as friends and it should stay that way.
It's crazy that Kyle is the same guy that hurt Maia and it is so not cool we don't get to see her hopefully kicking his butt in this chapter. But I can see that Kyle has changed into something better. What he did was really messed up and I'm crossing my fingers that he can make everyone see him for who he is now and not for his past.

  7. AH Jace....just AHHHH!

Simon needs Izzy, the end. Period. :-)

I totally trust Kyle... I was surprised, but I think he was honestly just 'lost' at the time and is a good guy who just needs the time to prove it to Maia. I would like to think she can have a bit of faith and understanding with him, but I am a hopeless romantic so....

  8. JACE!!!!! You are getting on my Very. Last. Nerve. You need to get over yourself!

And poor Simon...I must defend the sisterhood here, but I can't help but have a wee bit of sympathy for him because he is in over his head with both of these girls...he is in uncharted waters, bless his heart! I like both girls, but I would like to see him with Izzy.

Bad Kyle/Jordan.....BAD!!! :/ Although mayhap he is trying to make amends with the whole Praetor Lupus thingie....

  9. WHAT. A. CHAPTER.

*Jace is so irritating and frustrating!!! but WOW. I loved the kissing scene :D

*Simon deserved that (but maybe not right away after he biten Mo). I think that Simon and Izzy are great match:)

    * I knew there was something else to Kyle but I was shocked to find out he is Jordan! I can't trust him.

  10. Jace is driving me mad....just wish he would talk to Clary.....
but OMG the alley scene was HOT....

Poor Simon...didn't mean to date two girls at once...his life got away from him before he could tell them about each other...then heaven help him with those two girls mad at him....
While I really like Maia...I think Simon and Izzy make a better couple....

It looks bad for Kyle/Jordan..lies are never good...keeping secrets makes him look kinda shady...but I feel he is a good guy....

  11. I agree with what someone said earlier: the DSAS is like a snapshot of Jace and Clary's relationship. Sometimes, the kissing and loving and hot scenes get in the way of them sitting down and actually working out their problems. I totally understand why all Clary wants to do is make out with Jace (who wouldn't?) but at the same time, they need to talk some stuff out. Kissing does not replace good conversation.
As for simon's girl: Isabelle. All the way. Although I love watching the two of them team up against Simon- very funny.

  12. i certainly did not expect the make out scene between jace and clary! but what up with izzy always interrupting it. and yes we know jace loves clary but im just waiting for him to stop being so stiff and just be there for her. and simon... oh simon.... dating two completly different girls at the same was bound to come around and bite him in the butt. i think he and izzy would be good together i think they are good for each other considering her parents dont like downworlders. but love is love. and kyle is jordan what the heck is going on. i knew something was off about him. and he's maias jordan!! ahhh talk about claws coming out at the end of the chapter. i just wish it didn't end there. and i think he can be trustworthy he has good motives behind what he does. its just a matter of finding out what those are.

  13. Good grief I want to shake Jace and scream, you love her you idiot tell her everything there's nothing that you two can't over come.
I have always invisioned Simon with Izzy, under her facade is a sweet girl for Simon and I totally have a feeling that he feel for her head over heals a long time ago but is unwilling to admit it to himself.
Oh kyle why did you lie. Maia was so torn in this seen, and was out for revenge. But deep down I feel she still holds a lot of feelings for him that have never changed since he was her first love.
I cant wait for more, I'm on the edge of my seat.

  14. The only thing I can think of is that Jace well being a guy needs a break hahaha and I think he is done with it and that's why they made out in the alley while raining. I loced the scene.
At first thought I would want Maia to date Simon but she called Kyle, Jordan, I was like the heck has she had a relatiinship with Kyle, I seriously thought that. I'm pretty sure Simon will stay with Isabelle.
I'm a little lost I don't member a Jordan in the TMI series could someone refresh my memory a bit. Sorry.___.

May everyone have a great night=)

  15. I know finally a make out scene. Loved it!! I trust Kyle I think he was in the wrong place at the wrong time but he means well.

  16. OMG! The hot scene in the rain was something of incredible! I think it was the kind of scene that I have been expecting since city of Bones ahah (:
But Isabelle! Dear Isabelle, you're always in the wrong place in the wrong time! Everytime Jace and Clary seem to be closer there she is! XD
In my opinion Simon should be with her, not only because I'm in love with her strong personality but because opposite attracts opposite and Simon and Isabelle really have such different personalities!

  17. Yeah. That scene in the rain. What was that? Dunno what to think. Kinda surprised me.
And Simon totally deserves the verbal smack down he got. I think he should be with Izzy beause if he does something dumb again she can kick his a$$.
And poor poor Kyle. He didn't deserve that but poor Maia was so shocked. For the record I heart Maia and thinks she deserves to be happy.

  18. Poor Simon, he does deserve to get told off by both girls. I think the girls are interesting they seem as if they represent Simon's inner turmoil Izzy represents the shadow world and all Simon is trying to avoid, Maia represents the game playing music loving life he had before meeting Jace and his family. I don't think either girl is right for Simon.

  19. I will admit that I wanted to beat Jace and then Izzy for interrupting them but mostly I was worried about Jace. His moody behavior is NOT my Jace - I knew something was very wrong and I was scared. Knowing now, I want to reach in the pages and grab him and shake. Tell someone! Course that doesn't work.

As for Simon - got what he deserved.

Kyle was a HUGE shock to me.

  21. I think Kyle is sorry about what he did to Maia, but I hope we can know more about WHY he did that to her.

  22. Jace tends to act without thinking when it comes to Clary, so I wasn't too surprised. But he was really annoying me with his "I'm trying to protect you by not talking to you," bit.

I do feel bad for Simon, because he never thought he'd be in that type of situation before. Having to choose between two girls when he'd been in love with Clary for so long. I honestly can see him more so with Izzy than with Maia. She pushes and challenges him, but she also needs Simon in a way that I don't think Maia does.

Learning that Kyle was in fact Maia's ex floored me. I never would have guessed, but in the end it made sense. Cassie touched on it in CoA, and now you'd think that Maia would have to confront her past and face the wolf that turned her. I'm not sure that Kyle can be trusted at this point, but he did want to help Simon. That gives him some brownie points...
