Book Review / Blog Tour: Pivot Point by Kasie West

Welcome to the next stop in the official Pivot Point blog tour for Kasie West's upcoming release! I'm thrilled to have the chance to share my review of Kasie's book with you guys, but first I would like to apologize to those who were excepting my review to be up yesterday as was scheduled. I'm embarrassed to admit that while hosting this blog tour, I completely missed that my review did not get posted like it was suppose to yesterday. Instead of getting it posted late yesterday evening, I waited to post it this morning.

Knowing the outcome doesn’t always make a choice easier . . .

Addison Coleman’s life is one big “What if?” As a Searcher, whenever Addie is faced with a choice, she can look into the future and see both outcomes. It’s the ultimate insurance plan against disaster. Or so she thought. When Addie’s parents ambush her with the news of their divorce, she has to pick who she wants to live with—her father, who is leaving the paranormal compound to live among the “Norms,” or her mother, who is staying in the life Addie has always known. Addie loves her life just as it is, so her answer should be easy. One Search six weeks into the future proves it’s not.

In one potential future, Addie is adjusting to life outside the Compound as the new girl in a Norm high school where she meets Trevor, a cute, sensitive artist who understands her. In the other path, Addie is being pursued by the hottest guy in school—but she never wanted to be a quarterback’s girlfriend. When Addie’s father is asked to consult on a murder in the Compound, she’s unwittingly drawn into a dangerous game that threatens everything she holds dear. With love and loss in both lives, it all comes down to which reality she’s willing to live through . . . and who she can’t live without

A unpredictable, cleverly written debut with shocking twists, a touch of the supernatural, and a sweet romance that left me wanting more. PIVOT POINT is an exceptional debut that starts off with just the right speed and ends with a bang. It's one of those books that literally hooked me and had me turning pages faster than I could predict what was going to happen next. Kasie West delivers an incredibly exciting, supernatural read!

I loved the supernatural aspect of this story. I've often wondered what it would be like to see my own future. Especially when I was a teen and in my early twenties. I wonder if that power would have made me choose different choices, and lead me to a different path than I choose. In the same breath, I don't know if I'd want the kind of power/ability Addison does. Then I'd miss out on making choices solely based on my own decisions vs having my decisions based getting a look into the future. I think I'd be too tempted to search my future a little too often. Luckily that's not the case for Addison, our main character. I admire Addison for not using her power to gain insight into a future like she could have, especially when all of her other friends used their powers more often than she did.

What I liked most about this book is the way it was written. The story line is fueled by Addison's Search into a own future when her parent's reveal they're getting a divorce and now Allison must choose who she's going to live with. When Addison breaks down and Searches into her near future, she realizes she has a serious choice to make, and both paths have some unthinkable consequences not just for her, but her best friend and love interest too. From the moment Addison does her Search, every other chapter after that moment plays into the alternative future Addison could choose. Both have their pros and cons, and I quickly found myself rooting for one future I really, really wanted her to take. I loved that the one future held a certain someone who I loved from the moment he was introduced into the storyline. The other, well that's just say that there's characters in both paths that are less than stellar.

Pivot Point has some diverse characters. Addison has her parents, her best friend, the friends at the compound where she's always lived, a few creeps and then with the one path she can choose she some a huge group of new "normal" friends that live in the real world. For those who do have supernatural abilities like Addison, I liked that Kasie allowed those characters to make their own choices in terms of how they used their abilities. For good and bad, as each of their choices lead to consequences that played out in the future Kasie sees. Oh that villain! What an awesome twist to this unpredictable story. I had my assumptions on who was responsible for what was going on, but was totally shocked it was finally revealed.

I love that Kasie was able to pull off the unpredictable ending and throw me for a loop with her twists. It was a fabulous! Lately I feel there are books that start off strong, like this one did, and then somewhere between the middle part of the book and the ending, the execution is completely missed and falls flat. That was far from the case with Pivot Point. Kasie killed that execution! I admire an author who can completely pull that off and completely surprise me with the outcome. This is one heck of an awesome debut! I am really looking forward to reading more of Kasie's books. I need book 2 in this series like now!! If you're looking for an exciting read with a supernatural touch, and plenty of twists, I'd recommend picking PIVOT POINT up when it's out next week!
