Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns exist. In them, quarantined monsters and humans mingle in a decadently bloody mix of predator and prey. The only problem is, once you pass through Coldtown’s gates, you can never leave.

One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself.

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is a wholly original story of rage and revenge, of guilt and horror, and of love and loathing from bestselling and acclaimed author Holly Black

Hi Holly! Welcome back to Mundie Moms. Congratulations today's book release!
Hi, guys!!! Hope you had fun at all the TMI premiere stuff!!!

I did! Thank you so much. It was a blast to there with Cassie. I'm excited to talk to you today about Aidan. How would you describe AIDAN in 5 words or less?
Aidan is selfish, impulsive, kind-hearted, handsome, and not-even-a-little-bit-introspective.

From writing the outline to the story to the final draft, were you ever surprised by Aidan's choices?
I was surprised by the evolution of Aidan's character. I thought that he'd changed in ways that made him honestly villainous, but I didn't realize how much he would hold on to his old self. Aidan's story is kind of tragic, because I don't know that he is going to be very good at being bad and he may have to be to survive.

What's something you've come to admire about your character?
About Aidan? I admire that he's true to himself, through and through. He might apologize for the stuff he's done, but never for the person that he is. He honestly likes himself.

One of the things we love about your characters, is you make them relatable. You write your characters with flaws and strengths readers can identify with. What do you think feel is one of Aidan's strengths and one of his weaknesses?
Oh, thank you!
I think Aidan's biggest weakness is that he indulges himself, no matter what the consequences of doing so might be down the line. One of Aidan's greatest strengths is that he's not malicious. He fully expects other people to indulge themselves too and doesn't hold any kind of grudge when they manage to get the thing they want at the expense of the thing he wants.

Do you have a favorite Aidan moment or line from your book?
Well, without picking one that's too spoilery, I really love when Tana first sees him after the party at the very beginning of Chapter 3:
Aidan eyes were wide and terrified. He strained against the bungee cords, trying to talk through the tape. Tana couldn't make out the words, but she was pretty sure from the tone that he was begging her to untie him, pleading with her not to leave him. She bet he was regretting that time he'd forgotten her birthday and also the way he'd dumped her via direct message on Twitter and, almost certainly, everything he'd said to her last night. She almost started giggling again, hysteria rising in her throat, but she managed to swallow it down.

What's something we may not understand about Aidan in the book, that you want fans to know about him?
Like a lot of the characters in COLDEST GIRL IN COLDTOWN, he has stuff at home, with his family, that he's running away from. He wants something different from what he's grown up with and even though he's not sure how to get it, many of the choices he makes come from a desire to have that different life that he can't quite imagine, but still believes is out there.
