LA Times Book Festival: Re-Cap from Cassie & Harald's Panel

This past weekend was a crazy one, and sadly since I was on the road and attending The Teen Book Con festival, I didn't get to do a lot of RTing of Cassie's panel from the LA Times Book Festival. Here's a recap of a few of the things I did RT from @MortalMovie:

.@HaraldZwart put a scene back in after it had been cut when he found out @cassieclare loved it so much she cried.

, among many authors, gave @cassieclare advice on being involved with .

"I was just wandering around having a great time." - @cassieclare on her time on set

"Everyone in the audience goes 'that's how you pronounce that word!'" - .@cassieclare when talking about steles

Our friends over at Page to Premiere were at the event and were so nice to tweet a ton of what Cassie and Harald talked about. Here's some of what they tweeted:

We are tweeting from the @cassieclare panel at @latimesfob. She says she was nervous about the book becoming a film.

. @cassieclare said there was concern about the main character being a girl when trying to sell it to the studios. I was pre Twilight & THG.

. @haraldzwart thinks the book is very cool story. He read the script befor he read the book. he read the book he thought it was supercool.

When Harald went in for meetings he wanted to bring a lot of the book back to the script.

Harald says that when Clary is first walking around the Institute it's eye opening for the audience and Clary.

. @cassieclare said the Institute was her favorite set and that she spent a lot of time walking around the set taking it all in.

Lily Collins was already cast when Harald came on board and Jamie Campbell Bower was in discussions. He flew to London to meet him

Harald had to really get educated on Simon from @cassieclare to understand him and cast him.

.@cassieclare said Simon was tough to cast because he has to go through so much.

Harald was looking at footage of someone else for Luke and Aidan Turner happened to be it and he caught Harald's attention.

There's a flashback scene with Luke when Aidan Turner looks particularly hot according to @cassieclare. he's always hot.

Lily Collins was the only casting @cassieclare wasn't involved in. Cassie found out about her casting on Collider.

Suzanne Collin's told @cassieclare "oh honey, no one wants to see you; they want to see your adorable cast."

Harald went back to look at The Exorcist for ideas regarding demons. He mentioned Dorthea specifically.

. @cassieclare "don't touch the mortal cup."

They just showed the most recent and the response was awesome.

They decided to keep Alec and Magnus relationship the same as in the first book.

We will get to see Magnus heal Alec in the movie.

There is the benefit of hindsight when filming the movie to put some hints about the future books into City of Bones on screen.

Magnus's party set was gorgeous according to @cassieclare.

. @cassieclare was almost an extra on the subway, but she got kicked off by the producer so they could save her for Magnus's.

The extras were confused as to why the director kept coming over to talk to @cassieclare during the party shoot

They are still working on the film soundtrack. No answers yet.

Here are @cassieclare and Harald Zwart on stage @latimesfob http://via.me/-bik0td8

. @cassieclare imagined the Shadowhunters sounding "a little different, a little removed, a little more formal."

Simon and Isabelle will have "moments" in the movie to set up the series. - @cassieclare

Did you attend Cassie and Harald's panel? We'd love to hear your thoughts from their Q&A.

Mundane Monday #181- More Shadowhunter Tarot Cards #4-6

Happy Mundane Monday!

Last week Cassie started featuring a Shadowhunter Tarot Card a day, and since this weekend was a bit crazy for her having the LA Time Book Festival and all, she posted 3 cards! For her feature, here are cards 4, 5 & 6.

Of her post, Cassie said:

Cassandra Jean has finished the complete Shadowhunter Tarot, so for the next … seventy-something days I’ll be posting a card a day in order, from the first card to the last. Some will be under spoiler cuts; some you’ll have seen before — I’ll explain why each character has the card they have. Today is day 5.
I’m gone almost all today and I didn’t post cards yesterday, so today — have three! The first two are the Emperor and Empress cards, reimagined as the Artist and the Warrior. The Emperor is the fourth card and represents four corners, four seasons, four supports — stability and family, which are Jules’ priorities. The Empress is the Emperor’s counterpart, but a more dangerous card in some ways. She can represent the giving of life, but also the taking of it. And according to my readings the Queen often hooks up with Knights … ouch!
Emma is holding Cortana, and if you look closely you can see the inscription on the blade: I am of the steel and temper of Joyeuse and Durendal.
The third card is a card that we’re not using. It was the Queen of Runes, but we decided to keep all the suits to one family or another, and switched out Emma for a rather unexpected Blackthorn since the others are Blackthorns. I do love Emma having the Strength rune though and it’s a very lovely card, thank you Cassandra Jean!
