Godfrey Gao: I've Really Got to Thank the Fans

Godfrey Gao. What do you even say about him? He walks in a room, your jaw drops and you kind of stop and go "Did I die and go to Supermodel Heaven?". Nope you didn't. You just sat across from the beautifully handsome Godfrey Gao.

You walking around in your little boxers, and the whole Magnus Party scene, how was that?
When I went to the first day on set, I had to do a fitting right? So they were like "So we're going to have you wearing this nice purple velvet blazer" and I was like ok, cool. And then, "I'll give you this nice dress shirt to go with it, it kind of matches and some necklace and accessories", ok, cool, I'm liking the sound of that. And then, I looked over to the right and there's a rack of boxers [he laughs] and underwear, and I was like "So, what's that?" and they said "uh, yeah, those are the bottoms that you're gonna to wear for the scene". I was like ok. There were some boxers with hearts on it and there were some with...I don't know, it was pretty crazy. But there was a rack of boxers and then she was like just pick the one you like. I was like, mmm how about none of those? And then the director came in and was like "those boxers kind of look too much like an outfit. It's like boxers with the blazer and everything else, with the dress shoes, it just looks like an outfit. I want something more shocking, ya know? When people see the scene they go 'Oh, he's not wearing any pants." And then Harald said "So, um, Godfrey, what are you wearing today? I was like uh, just some briefs. They were really tight too, I was like uuuh some grey briefs. Then Harald was just like, "Why don't you put that on. I want to see it". [He laughs again]. This is like the first day for me in the studio and I had to be in front of like maybe 10 people; producers, and Harald, and ya know the wardrobe people. I was like here it's my grey boxers. Harald's like "Yep! That's the one! Let's use that one!" And I was like are you serious? And then I remember I had to go to the Producer's that were shooting on set so I had these tear-aways on and went over there and they were like 'oh, ok, sure. Whatever you say Harald. It looks good'. And then we just ended up using that. That was my first scene for Magnus Bane, it was pretty crazy.

What have you thought about the fan reaction to you being Magnus? How excited are you going forward with this franchise?
I'm very excited. Very excited. I'm very overwhelmed by how many followers and supporters there are for this movie and for my character Magnus. I've really got to thank the fans and the people that support this whole series and this movie. I'm really excited just for this movie and future movies to come. I'm happy that everything is right where it needs to be right now. It's crazy because the movie hasn't even come out yet and there's so many people ya know, talking about this and they can't wait for the movie to come out. So I'm just enjoying work and I'm enjoying my first time in Hollywood and to be a part of all of this. I'm very honored to be a part of this project. Hopefully I can be in it for the long run.

Are you prepared to come back for the 'Infernal Devices'?
Yeah, I hope so. Yes!

Are you prepared for glitter in the mail?
Yes, I'm definitely prepared for that because it was actually pretty fun for me. I've never done anything like that, with my outfits. Just taking the time and detail to put all of that stuff on. The glitter, and eyeliner, eye-shadow and the nail polish. It was fun.

Did you wear it around Toronto, on accident maybe?
Yeah, after the first day on set. I had all this stuff on and then after the shoot I was going to go back to the hotel and I was like 'Uh, should I just take these off, just in case the hotel lobby would be scared?' [laughs]. Ya know, if I came in like that.   But yeah, I took them off every time I was finished working just...I probably couldn't sleep in those. I enjoyed it, and it was fun. I can't wait to be Magnus again. To put that stuff back on.

What's your favorite characteristic of Magnus? What do you like most about him?
He's a flamboyant guy. He's like none of the other characters in the series. Obviously he throws parties. It's just something different that I haven't actually become something like this before in my acting career. So it's fun, he's a very fun character and I just enjoy his whole outfit and his presence. The way he acts in those parties and he's a heavy drinker maybe? Or, he's a party animal. I love that about him. And especially his outfits. They're pretty cool. Especially the warlock outfit. It's cool too.

Are you hoping to wear pants though?
Hopefully. Hopefully they'll have some pants for me this time. Actually I can say the warlock outfit was something, like for me was pretty cool because the whole um, the hat that goes over it. Kind of like a, how do you call that, a corset, like black leather corset wrapped around it. It goes all the way to my feet. I felt like a warlock, ya know. Just walking around, it was pretty cool. Hopefully I can borrow that for Halloween. [laughs]

What about the vulnerability you showed when caring for Alec? How did you get into that frame of mind that I really like this guy?
I guess I had to imagine. Um, I think it was fun for me, actually just to tease Kevin. He's a pretty shy guy. But it was fun. I just imagined him like the most incredible woman in my life. [laughs] I was like hey, Kevin and I'd give him a wink. And he was like 'Uhhhh' [laughs again] Ok, so that's enough of that. But it's fun ya know? He does a pretty good job too, as being shy and like 'is he looking at me?'. So, I enjoyed that.

You do a good job of being the "keeper of the secrets" in City of Bones. Do you think we'll see more from you in City of Ashes?
Yeah. There's definitely more in the 'City of Ashes' and 'City of Glass'. So, ya know, hopefully I can be a part of it.

Have you read further in the series? Have you read City of Ashes?
Yeah, I've read City of Ashes and I'm just looking at it over and over just waiting for the script.

I like the scene with Lily where we get to see her discover that you're the one that buys her mom's paintings. A more personal side to your character, that he cares.
I like the scene with Lily actually because it talks about what had happened, more on a personal level too with Lily's character. It's kind of like helping her out in an emotional way. I think it's great, ya know, you get that personal level between the two characters and what their history was and why they're doing it. And ya know, it develops into a good relationship in the whole series.

City of Ashes Fancasting: RAPHAEL

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones has been in theaters for over 24 hours, and we are already thinking City of Ashes. Judge us, it’s fine. But with filming starting soon, we want your voices to be heard. Mundie Moms, TMI Source, and Fangirlish asked for your suggestions on who to fan cast for parts in City of Ashes.
Raphael Santiago makes his book debut in City of Bones, but we have been assured that Raphael will be in City of Ashes.
When asking for fan casting, there was a little bit of a backlash. Fans who have seen the movie said that Elyas M’Barek is meant to be Raphael. Well, he’s not. According to IMDB he is a Vampire Leader. He dies in City of Bones. As we have all been assured that Raphael makes his appearance in the City of Ashes movie – how can Elyas be Raphael? Simply put, he can’t.
Raphael is described as having black, curly hair: slightly built with honey-colored skin. He’s shorter then Jace. His eyebrows are so thin that Simon wonders if he has them drawn in. He is around 15, but his age in vampire years is unknown.
We have collected your suggestions. Here are your top five.
Tyler Posey – He’s the fan favorite. He has a huge following from Teen Wolf so he could attract new fans to the franchise. He has experience playing a supernatural character, and he could make a nice transition from werewolf to vampire.
Avan Jogia – He has a sinister quality about him. He has a huge following from television shows such as Victorious and Twisted and this could be his break to the big screen.
Diego Boneta – He’s proven himself in a variety of roles, including Rock of Ages and Pretty Little Liars. He was named 2012 GQ Latin American Actor of the Year. He also won the Alma Award for Best Actor in 2012.
Shiloh Fernandez – He has had big screen starring roles in Red Riding Hood and Evil Dead. named him one of their 'Breakout Stars to Watch For in 2011.
Michael Trevino – He has a huge fan-following from Vampire Diaries. He has experience playing a Downworlder of a different sort than what City of Ashes calls for, but he has experience working with vampires and could make a nice transition.

THE A WORD by Joy Preble, Cover Reveal & Giveaway

Happy Thursday! I'm so thrilled to be apart of today's cover reveal for Joy Preble's upcoming release, THE  A WORD, the sequel to THE SWEET DEAD LIFE. Check out this cover!

Isn't it great? I love that it's a perfect match for The Sweet Dead Life. Here's a little bit about this upcoming release:

Jenna Samuels is about to turn fifteen. It's been almost a year since her stoner brother, Casey, bit the dust. Almost a year since he returned as her guardian angel, along with his "angel boss," Amber Velasco, the hot twenty-something former EMT. Almost a year since Casey and Amber used up their one-time-only angel power of flight to save Jenna from the evil Dr. Renfroe, swooping down to catch her as she tumbled off the balcony at the Houston Galleria. In short, a lot of A-word shenanigans and a mostly happy ending.

Except now Casey's begun to wonder why he's still hanging around—not that he minds protecting Jenna. She's a handful, but there's got to be a bigger picture, right? Something to distract him from his on again/off again, doomed relationship with cheerleader Lanie Phelps, who has no idea her boyfriend is, well, dead. After all, he can't use his angel wings anymore. Neither can Amber.

Enter Bo Shivers, Amber's "angel boss"—a mysterious A-word guy Jenna and Casey didn't even know existed. Whiskey-guzzling. Handsome in a grizzled way. Unpredictable. Okay, make that crazy. Bo lost his angel wings in an earthly flight a long, long, long time back—and he's been a thorn in Angel Management's side ever since. But Bo knows something is coming. Something big. Something that was worth forfeiting wings for Jenna... something that might just change everything for everyone.

THE A WORD will be out May 13th, 2014 (check it out here on Amazon), exactly one year after THE SWEET DEAD LIFE was released. How cool is that!?! A SWEET DEAD LIFE will be out in paperback in February. Here's a little about it:

14-year-old Jenna Samuels is being poisoned. So she does the unthinkable: gets in a car with her stoner brother Casey. They crash rushing to the hospital, and Jenna awakes in the ER to find that Casey has died - and come back as her guardian angel. He's now nauseatingly attractive to everyone and even more annoying to her, but they must work together to uncover the shocking truth about her poisoning and what it has to do with their father's disappearance.

Fansites Speak With Harald Zwart: I've Been So Nervous Waiting for What You Had to Say

download (1)

Every time we have talked to Harald Zwart, he's been gracious and kind. He's been extremely nervous. The director takes the fans of The Mortal Instruments very seriously, and wants to do honor to the series that we all so desperately love. Sitting down and talking with him, we got to tell him just how great of a job we think he did. And what we loved the most, he genuinely seemed to care and was appreciative of everything.

The demons were freaky and we jumped twice in the movie!

The whole idea that it is good to be a little scared in these movies is ultimately what Cassie wanted. When you operate with demons and what I thought was important with the movie adaptation is to take it really seriously. I think the journey Clary goes on is an amazing journey. I lost my mother when I was 12 years and I moved out of my house at 14 and I was on my own. What was really interesting to me when I read the books was: How does a normal girl (or someone who thinks she's normal) react to first of all, to her mom being gone, but then you throw supernatural things in there. So reality isn't even what she thought it was? THAT I thought was unbelievable and I thought of "how does a girl actually deal with that?" We went really deep with Clary. We had long talks about how emotional and how serious, and I didn't want to hold back.

I really love the girl power in the whole movie. I have an 8 year old daughter and I want her to have really strong idols. I see her being exposed to a lot of not-so-favorable stuff on TV and media in general. I just want her to have a really strong image that a girl can actually find her strength, and no matter what you throw at them you can always find a way out of it. That is what is so great with Cassandra's story. So, the supernatural stuff - I can deal with that. So she's dealt with that. Then, Valentine comes and tells her the guy you've fallen in love with is not who you think he is. What? That's another reality she has to deal with. That shift of reality all of the time. How Clary crawls out of those black holes all the time is just so fascinating.

Cassandra Clare on Jamie Campbell Bower

Can I just say how much I love this picture of Jamie and Cassie at the Berlin premiere of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Cassie recently posted a similar pic, but it's this shot and the caption below that totally got my attention this morning on Tumblr.

When Jamie auditioned first he’d just gotten off a plane and he was messy and tired and yet he just became Jace, right there on the screen. That was always the thing I had faith in. Being on set and seeing him, and seeing the footage now, yes, that above is pretty much exactly how I always envisioned Jace.- Cassandra Clare (Source)

This quote has so many feels to it. I've told Jamie every time I've seen him over the past few months just how perfect he is as Jace. I'm so glad he's proved me, once a doubter who didn't see him as Jace when he was first cast, wrong. From the moment Jamie walked into the room where we sat to interview him on set, I knew HE was Jace. There's something about Jamie that just oozes Jace. Then seeing him bring Jace to life on the bring screen.... WOW. Thank you Jamie to proving the doubters wrong, for not listening to the crap that was said about you, and most importantly, thank you for bringing Jace to life!

Jamie & Lily At Each TMI Movie Premiere

Can I just saw how much I adore these two. I do. Jamie and Lily are simply some of the nicest people I've met. I totally love that Cassie shared these pictures of them at all three TMI Movie premieres from LA, Toronto and Berlin.
