Guest Post With Author WALTER JURY, Co-Author of SCAN

Welcome to today's SCAN blog tour. I'm so thrilled to have co-author, Walter Jury on the blog today. Before I share his guest post, here's a little bit about his newest book, which he co-wrote with Sarah Fine, SCAN.

Tate and his father don’t exactly get along. As Tate sees it, his father has unreasonably high expectations for Tate to be the best—at everything. Tate finally learns what he’s being prepared for when he steals one of his dad’s odd tech inventions and mercenaries ambush the school, killing his father in the process and sending Tate on the run from aliens who look just like humans.

All Tate knows--like how to make weapons out of oranges and lighter fluid--may not be enough to save him as he’s plunged into a secret inter-species conflict that’s been going on for centuries. Aided only by his girlfriend and his estranged mother, with powerful enemies closing in on all sides, Tate races to puzzle out the secret behind his father’s invention and why so many are willing to kill for it. A riveting, fast-paced adventure, Scan is a clever alien thriller with muscle and heart.

Check out my review for SCAN here. Now I'm thrilled to have Walter Jury talk about his newest release:

Walter Jury talks about how he kept the action going in this nonstop thriller, with never a dull moment:
The action certainly comes fast and furious in SCAN.  We always appreciate the compliment that it is non-stop and satisfying to be on such a thrill ride.  It was very important to us as writers to not force any action into the plot.  Everything should feel organic, as it is a coming of age story for our protagonist, Tate, and he does not have a choice but to survive and fulfill the mission laid out in front of him during the course of the events that follow our catalytic beginning (no spoilers here!).
In telling the story, the set up begets the action because the events that launch our story are so explosive to the security and ingenuity that Tate's father has built around his family legacy.  Because of that explosion of trouble, Tate must go on the run with his girlfriend, Christina, and avoid any potential pitfalls that could happen as they avoid the pursuers who’ve instigated the trouble.  It's from there that we observe and learn of Tate's various skills—skills that his father insisted he develop, much to his unknowing chagrin at the time.  It's Tate's ability, and Christina's complementary skill and patience, that help them avoid situation after situation where they could be compromised—but it also adds up to a thrilling action-packed journey for our protagonist.
In FIRST BLOOD, both the book and film, there is an undercurrent of understand and learning about the plight of our protagonist—but there is also a fantastic element of non-stop action that surrounds our hero, John Rambo.  Rambo doesn't ask to be put in his predicament, but he fights through it—as a result, I feel like that story has very organic action.  Hopefully, we can leave our readers feeling the same ambitious but organic instinct with SCAN.
About The Authors

Walter Jury was born in London, has a background in the film industry, is a big fan of the New York Giants, and enthusiast of Jamba Juice’s Protein Berry Workout smoothie only with soy, never whey. “Scan” is his first book for teens. Oh, and under his real name, he’s a producer of one of 2014’s biggest blockbusters. Let’s just say he “diverges” in his career from film to literature quite well.

Sarah Fine was born on the West Coast, raised in the Midwest, and is now firmly entrenched on the East Coast, where she lives with her husband and two children. She is the author (as Sarah Fine) of several young adult books, and when she's not writing, she’s working as a child psychologist. No, she is not psychoanalyzing you right now.
