17 YA Epic Fantasies To Treat Your Westeros Withdrawal AKA; Fantasy Reads YA Fans Will Love

Looking for some epic fantasy reads? BuzzFeed has you covered! Check out their list of 17 Epic Fantasies To Treat Your Westerns Withdrawal. Since I've not watched Game of Thrones, I call this list, 17 Epic Fantasy Reads YA Readers Should Read! I've read all but three from this list, and loved each one I've read.

Here's how BuzzFeed broke down this list:

Looking for some heroines who kick butt? Than pick up these three reads.

If you like your butt kicking heroines to come with a great destiny, pick up these reads.

Looking for fierce battles and daring deeds? You'll want to read these books. You'll have to wait until April 2015 to pick up An Ember In The Ashes, a book that is one of my most anticipated reads for 2015. I can not wait to read this one.

Hello Dragons! This is a list dragon fans will love. I loved Frozen, and have yet to read EON or Seraphina, though I've heard they're both great. I'll be picking them up soon.

For a touch of magic, these are three books you'll want to read.

If you're like me, and love a book that takes you to the dark side of fantasy, while giving you some romance, action, and makes you wish the book never ended, then these two books are for you. If you've not yet picked up Shadow and Bone, be sure to pick up the entire series! It's one of my favorites! The Young Elites is a new release from Marie Lu this year, and I can't wait to read the sequel in 2015.

Check out more about the list and each book via BuzzFeed's list here

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

It's Thanksgiving day here in the US, and today we'll be gathered together with family and friends to celebrate all that we have to be thankful for. While we're not going to be online much today, I wanted to take a moment and let each of you know how thankful I am for each of you. I have much I feel thankful for today.

I'm thankful to each of YOU, my blogs's readers. I thankful for all your support, and taking time out of your busy schedules to stop by Mundie Moms, and my other two blogs. Though life has gotten crazy lately, and I'm behind on book reviews at the moment, I appreciate you're unwavering support of all we do here on Mundie Moms. Thank you for always engaging with us online via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr, and leaving your comments here on the blog.

I'm thankful to each of the authors both those I'm so blessed to call friends, and those who I've not yet meant. Thank you for your tireless efforts in writing and bringing your stories to life. Books are powerful things, and many of your books have pulled me through struggles, given me hope, made me think outside the box, and taken me on incredible adventures. Your characters are characters I can't wait for my children to meet. Most of all, thankful for your support of the blogging / book reviewing community.

I'm thankful to the publishers and publicists who work so hard to get books into the hands of reviewers and readers. Thank you for your ongoing support to bloggers and reviewers. Most of all, thank you for ALL you do behind the scenes for books. I'll always be grateful of those who entrusted me from the get go to help promote your books. Almost six years later I can't imagine doing anything else.

I'm so thankful for the friendships the book world has brought into my life. I've met some incredible people whom I'm blessed to call friends. I'm so grateful for three of those friends, Sophie, Em and Shandra. Though we're scattered through out part of the US, and the other side of the globe, I am so grateful I get to call you friends. There is so much I want to say to each of you, but for the sake of being a total sap, I'll just say I love you three, and thank you for all you do!

I can't write a gratitude post, and not thank my family for enduring my love and passion for books and reading, and the time I've put into it. I love that my kids have grown up seeing my love of books, which thankfully has rubbed off on them. I have loved seeing them experience certain things I've been able to do, through their eyes. I've loved seeing them attend events, meet authors, and  fall in love with reading. And even though my husband doesn't get my love of books, he's become more understanding over the fact books rule the house around here, and allows me to embrace something I have a passion for.

I hope y'all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Graceling meets The Selection in debut novelist Victoria Aveyard's sweeping tale of seventeen-year-old Mare, a common girl whose once-latent magical power draws her into the dangerous intrigue of the king's palace. Will her power save her or condemn her?

Mare Barrow's world is divided by blood--those with common, Red blood serve the Silver- blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. Before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own.

To cover up this impossibility, the king forces her to play the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks everything and uses her new position to help the Scarlet Guard--a growing Red rebellion--even as her heart tugs her in an impossible direction. One wrong move can lead to her death, but in the dangerous game she plays, the only certainty is betrayal.

I.Can.Not.Wait.For.This.Book! It is one of my most anticipated 2015 reads. From the early buzz I've been hearing about it, it sounds like I'm going to LOVE it!! Too bad Santa can't work his magic and release this book, oh I don't know, let's say in December. lol

Mundane Monday #227 - TLH & an Unidentified Snippet

Happy Mundane Monday!
I hope you're week is starting off great. My kiddos are off for the entire week, and I'm planning on taking it easy and spending time kicking back with them. Cassandra Clare is getting our week off to a great start. Check out her latest TLH snippet, she posted here

Image found here

“Cordelia Carstairs,” Will said, after greeting her mother. “How pretty you’ve become.”
Cordelia beamed. If Will thought she was pretty, perhaps his son thought so, too. Of course Will was entirely prejudiced toward all things Carstairs. He even thought Alastair was perfect (and, possibly, also pretty.)

Now that I'm finally out of my Scholastic Book Fair cave, here is an Unidentified snippet I missed last week.
There was nothing less sexy than an angry-looking cat on your bed.

Just in case you missed it, Cassandra Jean has a new Shadowhunter Flower Project, The Dark Artifices. Check out her newest cards below:

Cassandra Jean’s Floriography — matching the Shadowhunter Chronicles characters to the flowers that represent them! Diego and Jaime Rocio Rosales from the Dark Artifices. Brothers at odds…
pottericaporsiempre said: Hi,Cassie Well obviously that i don’t even read TDA But i saw a new post and i assume that Diego and Jaime Rosales are Mexican right? I’m asking this to you because i don’t know so…i hope you answer this. Thank you!!
Yes, they are. They are not directly related to Cristina, though she has an intense history with both of them.

I'm really looking forward to reading TDA, and getting to know more about the characters Cassie keeps teasing us with.

Recent Book News: The Lunar Chronicles Fanart Contest, Carrie Ryan's NEW Book Cover & Much More

Hello & Happy Saturday! I'm finally emerging from my Scholastic Book Fair cave that I've been in the last two weeks. I'm catching up posting reviews this weekend, and checking out the latest book news I've missed. Here's a few exciting things I missed, that I wanted to share with y'all just in case you missed this too.

Carrie Ryan has a new YA book coming out!! Check out the cover for Daughter of Deep Silence, which EW revealed yesterday, here. What a stunning cover. I love it!
Here's a little bit about the book:

“In the wake of the deadly devastation of luxury yacht Persephone, just three souls remain to tell its story—and two of them are lying. Only Frances Mace, rescued from the ocean after torturous days adrift with her dying friend Libby, knows that the Persephone wasn’t sunk by a rogue wave as survivors Senator Wells and his song are claiming—it was attacked. To ensure her safety from the obviously dangerous and very powerful Wells family, Libby’s father helps newly orphaned Frances assume Libby’s identity. Frances has spent years in hiding, transforming herself into Libby, and she can no longer allow the people who murdered her entire family and Libby to get away with it. After years of careful plotting, she’s ready to set her revenge plans into motion—even if it means taking down the boy she’d once been in love with: the senator’s son. The game has just begun, and Frances is not only playing dirty, she’s playing to win.”

Can Evie convince her rival loves to work together? Their survival depends on it in this third book of #1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole’s Arcana Chronicles, a nonstop action tale of rescue, redemption, and a revenge most wicked.

Heartbreaking decisions
Evie was almost seduced by the life of comfort that Death offered her—until Jack was threatened by two of the most horrific Arcana, The Lovers. She will do anything to save him, even escape Death’s uncanny prison, full of beautiful objects, material comforts…and stolen glances from a former love.

Uncertain victory
Despite leaving a part of her heart behind with Death, Evie sets out into a frozen and perilous post-apocalyptic wasteland to meet up with her allies and launch an attack on The Lovers and the vast army they command. Such formidable enemies require a battle plan, and the only way to kill them once and for all may mean Evie, Jack, and Death allying. Evie doesn’t know what will prove more impossible: surviving slavers, plague, Bagmen and other Arcana—or convincing Jack and Death to work together.

Two heroes returned
There’s a thin line between love and hate, and Evie just doesn’t know where she stands with either Jack or Death. Will this unlikely trio be able to defeat The Lovers without killing one another first?

Read an Exclusive EXCERPT

My stomach dropped as the sounds echoed over the water. I whirled around to Matthew. “Not him?”
“No. Daily execution.” How the Milovnícis kept the rank and file in line.
I sagged with such relief, I almost felt guilty. Then I wondered how those shots had affected Jack.
“He believes no help is coming,” Matthew whispered. “Knows he can’t escape. Thinks his friends are dead.”
The idea of Jack alone, with no hope, gutted me. “Is he . . . is he scared?” “Certain he’ll die. Surprised by how unfrightened he is.”
“You can tell? You always had trouble reading him.”

Nod. “Three months’ practice.”
“But you can’t read his future?”
Matthew’s brows drew together. “Never wanted this to happen.” “Can you tell him we’re coming for him?”
Without a word, Matthew crossed to the ladder and climbed down.

I clumsily followed. Back on the ground, he said, “Your alliance is injured.”
Did he mean that my allies were benched, or that my alliance was shaky? “Are you taking me to Finn and Selena?” I hadn’t seen them in months.
“Across the courtyard to the barracks.” Matthew started away again, heading in a different direction, balancing on the boards.
With Cyclops at my side, I tromped along the mud-caked planks through a central area, like a quad (courtyard might be a stretch).
When Matthew stopped in front of a tent, I bade the wolf stay outside. He snuffled indignantly, plunking down in the mud.
Taking a deep breath, I tugged down my poncho hood and entered, Matthew behind me.
Selena and Finn lay on cots. The Archer’s arm was in a sling—her bow arm. An arrow stretched over her lap, and she petted the feather fletchings, the sound like riffled cards. She stared, seemingly at nothing.

One of Finn’s legs was splinted, elevated on a bug-out bag. A metal crutch leaned beside his cot.
A fire burned in the center of the tent, vented out of the roof. More Arcana sat on benches around it: the Tower, Judgment, and the World Card, an alliance of three.
Joules sized me up. Gabriel tilted one of his black wings in greeting. Tess Quinn waved shyly, her fingernails bitten to the quick. Matthew dropped down to sit beside her.
“Well, if it isn’t our fair Empress,” Joules said in his thick Irish accent.
Selena shot upright, her silver-blond hair tumbling over her shoulders.
“Evie!” Finn called. “How did you get free of Death?”
This could get tricky. “Uh, I had an opportunity to . . . steal away.” Steal Death’s horse and saddle, steal a new bug-out bag, steal my

hi-tech all-weather gear. “It’s not important. I’m here now.”
“Yet you didn’t accept my offer.” Joules’s reddish brown hair was

disheveled, his gaze cagey.
Selena—who’d called out no greeting—said, “If you got a jump on

Death to escape, then you could have brought Joules’s payment.”
Aric hadn’t been the only one to offer a deal to save Jack. Joules had demanded Death’s severed head in exchange for a rescue. “It’s not that

simple,” I told them. “Things aren’t how we thought them.”
“Did you have a chance to kill the Reaper or not?” Whatever Joules read in my expression made him say, “You feckin’ did! A shot at the

Endless Knight! The one who always bloody wins!”
Selena’s lips parted. “Death dies; J.D. lives. What part of that

equation are you having problems with?”
“We can hash everything out later.” I was nearly choking with worry

and exhausted to the point of kicking toes-up. “For now, let’s focus on—”

“We were in an alliance to defeat Death,” Selena bit out. “One you started. When Matthew told us you’d recovered your powers, we believed you’d do whatever it took to free J.D.—especially from the psychotic Lovers.” Selena swiped a hand over her livid face. “Instead, you betrayed all of us. J.D. more than anyone! Do you know what they’ll do to him?”
My grandmother had told me they warped and perverted their victims, making them confuse torture and pain for pleasure. “I have an idea!” My glyphs moved over my skin, a sign of high emotion—or aggression. But I grappled for patience. “Which is why we need to stop arguing over things that can’t be changed and start planning a rescue!”
Maybe Gabriel had done a flyover for recon on the army; he’d know the lay of the land across the river. We could plot a mission.
Start planning?” Selena sneered. “You don’t have a plan? You’ve got some nerve to show up here with no answers and no payment,
sauntering in with your fancy new clothes, looking like you haven’t missed a meal.”
Exactly the way she’d looked when I’d first met her.
“Because of you, J.D. is suffering right now.” Voice rising with each word, she said, “You should have paid the Tower!” With her supernatural speed, she leapt from the cot, lunging to attack.

Chapter 3

Selena’s good hand was in the air, poised to backhand me; instinctively my thorn claws shot out—
“Gamekeeper’s blood!” Matthew cried.
Selena and I both screamed in pain, matching red lines glowing across our hands.
Cyclops sprang inside the tent, baring his monstrous fangs at her. I used Selena’s moment of shock to scramble back.
Tess whimpered and shrank away from the beast; Gabriel flared his wings.
“Th-that wolf was dead!” Finn sputtered from his cot. “The cannibals killed all of Lark’s war wolves.”
Joules opened his palm upright; a silver baton materialized out of thin air—one of his lightning javelins. In a blur, it extended to its full length. “My bolt once fried that very beast!”
Which was why Cyclops’s fur was frizzy. “Lark’s familiars are . . . hardy.” I withheld the full truth: her three wolves were undying—as long as Lark lived.
“It’s protecting you?” Selena looked aghast.
“He won’t hurt anyone unless I’m in danger.”
“You’re allied with Lark now?” Finn’s gaze darted from me to

Matthew, as if the Fool should’ve told them this. “Even after she sold us out?”
Matthew rocked back and forth on the bench.
“Lark didn’t know us when she made the pact to hand us over to Death,” I explained. “For all she knew, we could’ve been cannibals like the Hierophant’s followers.”
Finn peered at Cyclops. “But then she did get to know us,” he said to the wolf.
