IGNITE by Sara B. Larson, Blog Tour: Guest Post & Enter To Win!

Hello and welcome to today's IGNITE blog tour stop. I am so thrilled to have author Sara B. Larson on Mundie Moms today, to talk about moments from her debut Defy. If you've not picked up Defy yet, I highly recommend that you do. You can read my review here. After you read it, I recommend you go pick up it's sequel, IGNITE, which was released yesterday.

My Favorite Quotes/Moments from Defy

I have so many quotes and scenes from DEFY that I love, for different reasons. These are just a few of the quotes I love (and that readers have loved, too).
“Sometimes it seemed like those with the most rotten interiors were blessed with the most exquisite exteriors.”   (Isn’t this just the truth, though?? And this kind of becomes a theme throughout the book—what is true beauty? Something we see only with our eyes or something that shines through from within us?)
“Have you ever heard of the theory that it is better for one man to die than an entire nation to suffer? Do you believe that to be true? Is it ever okay to take a life in hopes of saving others?” (I feel like this was a powerful moment when you start to see the real Damian—to understand the weight he’s laboring under, and the terrible choices he’s trying to make to help his kingdom and his people.)
“You were attacked by a jaguar, and you didn’t think to tell me? Are you all right?”
“You knew I was a girl and you still came out to talk to me in the middle of the night without a shirt on?" I shot right back.
"You did what?" Rylan cut in, his eyes wide. (This conversation just always made me giggle a little bit!)
One of my favorite scenes to write was the tent scene with Alexa, Rylan, and Damian. Such delicious tension and such an awkward situation. I’ll admit I had a lot of fun with that one! I really enjoyed writing so many of the scenes with Damian, especially when he knew the truth about Alexa, but she didn’t know he knew yet. He’s such a tease sometimes!
And these are two of the most powerful quotes in the book that I just love:
“Because you understand. More than anyone. Because you know what it's like never to trust anyone - to be completely alone, lost in a disguise of your own making.” (Damian is being completely honest with Alexa, allowing her [and the reader] to see into his heart and what his life has been like. He recognizes the similarities of what they’ve endured. I love his vulnerability that he sometimes allowed her to see.)
“True beauty is what lies inside of us, not what the world sees. A beautiful shell that houses a vile soul becomes sullied over time. But an outer shell, imperfect as it may be, that houses a beautiful, shines with that beauty, radiating it for all who have eyes to see.”  (This is one of the most important moments in this book for me. These lines just flowed out. I really felt like it was something that was supposed to be said and could hold a lot of meaning for a lot of people. And it echoes Alexa’s earlier thoughts about the difference between external and internal beauty.)

Murder, abductions, and forbidden romance abound in this thrilling sequel to Sara B. Larson's acclaimed YA debut, DEFY.

Alexa remains by the newly crowned King Damian’s side as his guard, ever committed to helping him rebuild Antion and reclaim the hope of Antion's people, despite continuing to harbor a secret love for him. However, when another threat to Damian and his kingdom emerges, and blame is cast on their newly forged allies from Blevon, Alexa knows things are not what they seem. With the fate of her nation hanging in the balance once again, will Alexa be able to protect her king and uncover the true enemy -- before it's too late?

About Sara:
Sara loves writing, reading, and dessert--but the order varies by the day. She wrote her first book in second grade about a woman who had a premature baby, complete with a "to scale" drawing of the baby's size--while her mom was pregnant. To say she was a bit precocious is putting it lightly. Now that she’s an adult, she writes books for teens that have magic and romance and kick-butt girls (and very few premature babies). She lives in Utah with her husband, two young sons and baby girl. She writes during naptime and the hours when most people are sleeping. Her husband claims that she should have a degree in "the art of multitasking." On occasion you will find her hiding in a bubble bath with a book and some Swedish Fish. she is represented by Josh Adams of Adams Literary.
