A summer road trip changes everything in this unforgettable new tale from acclaimed author Katie McGarry.

For new high school graduate Echo Emerson, a summer road trip out west with her boyfriend means getting away and forgetting what makes her so . . . different. It means seeing cool sights while selling her art at galleries along the way. And most of all, it means almost three months alone with Noah Hutchins, the hot, smart, soul-battered guy who's never judged her. Echo and Noah share everything--except the one thing Echo's just not ready for.

But when the source of Echo's constant nightmares comes back into her life, she has to make some tough decisions about what she really wants--even as foster kid Noah's search for his last remaining relatives forces them both to confront some serious truths about life, love, and themselves.

Now, with one week left before college orientation, jobs and real life, Echo must decide if Noah's more than the bad-boy fling everyone warned her he'd be. And the last leg of an amazing road trip will turn . . . seriously epic.

Guest Post From Katie McGarry

I got chills the first time I heard “Glass” by Thompson Square. This song, almost word per word, describes Echo and Noah’s relationship perfectly, especially at the beginning of Breaking the Rules.

The song talks about how fragile we are as human beings—that we are glass. We can be something so beautiful that you can see all the wonderful things on the inside and, on the flip side, we can also see all the pain and hurt.

What happens when we become glass with someone and let them in? Do we become beams of sun shining through or will we shatter?
This is exactly how Echo feels in Breaking the Rules. She loves Noah, immensely so, but can their love survive in the real world? She wants Noah to be so much more than the fling everyone is warning her that he is—she wants them to be a forever type of relationship.
But she’s already been through hell and, now, as Noah and Echo are reaching the end of their trip, she has to face the demons that still haunt her in Kentucky. Echo loves Noah and Noah loves Echo. Read Breaking the Rules to see how their love overcomes this emotional journey.
