Imagine a time when the gods turn a blind eye to the agony of men, when the last of the hellions roam the plains and evil stirs beyond the edges of the map. A time when cities burn, and in their ashes, empires rise.
Alexander, Macedonia’s sixteen-year-old heir, is on the brink of discovering his fated role in conquering the known world but finds himself drawn to newcomer Katerina, who must navigate the dark secrets of court life while hiding her own mission: kill the Queen. But Kat’s first love, Jacob, will go to unthinkable lengths to win her, even if it means competing for her heart with Hephaestion, a murderer sheltered by the prince. And far across the sea, Zofia, a Persian princess and Alexander’s unmet fiancĂ©e, wants to alter her destiny by seeking the famed and deadly Spirit Eaters.
Weaving fantasy with the salacious and fascinating details of real history, New York Times bestselling author Eleanor Herman reimagines the greatest emperor the world has ever known: Alexander the Great, in the first book of the Blood of Gods and Royals series.

AUTHOR GUEST POST

My Favorite Lines Legacy of Kings
Some historical novelists seem to forget that humans of all ages and places have a sense of humor, no matter how tragic their circumstances might be. So I try to inject a bit of humor now and then into the dialog or the characters’ thinking.
Having spent an entire day researching ancient laundry for Kat’s scene in the palace laundry, I had her watch men urinate in a tub and the laundry mistress throw a stained tunic into it.  So I gave Kat this thought:
Their cheap, unbleached tunics back in Erissa never needed urine, perhaps the single advantage to being poor.
When Heph wakes up with a gut-wrenching hangover—a word which sounds jarringly modern—I described it this way:
This is the Wrath of Dionysus. A common affliction that occurs when the wine god punishes those who honor him too enthusiastically.
But I suppose my favorite line of all is Princess Cynane’s, Alexander’s half-sister, a nasty bundle of pain and ambition. When she sets fire to a would-be assassin:
He falls to the floor, writhing as the flames turn his face into a blistering, bubbling mess. Leaning on her shield, she looks at him and smiles. “Call me ‘bit**’ again,” she says.

About The Author

Before the Game of Thrones craze swept the nation, Eleanor Herman was hard at work entertaining readers with her extensive research on courtly intrigue and romance. She is the New York Times bestselling author of Sex with Kings, as well as three other works of nonfiction: Sex with the Queen, Mistress of the Vatican, and King Peggy.
Obsessed by all things royal and historical, she lives in McLean, Virginia with her husband and four extremely dignified cats. Legacy of Kings is her first novel.

  9. I really enjoy historical fiction. It's a great way to learn more about history. Even though it is not always historically accurate it gives you an idea of who was who. Plus it is always more enjoyable to read a historical novel than a history book :-) Thank you for the giveaway.
