The Divergent Series - Insurgent Movie Review

(This review will contain SPOILERS if you've not read the book)

One of the benefits of living in Australia is that we often get movie's released a day or two before the USA because of our time zone differences.  Movies are always released on a Thursday here so there are ofter advance screenings on the Wednesday night which makes them even more ahead of the USA.  I was lucky enough to get to see Insurgent last night at an advance screening.  A group of 10 of us went along with a full house of movie goers.  I'm not ashamed to say we all loved it!

It is not a secret I am not a huge fan of the books.  I just don't like the writing style and find it being told for Tris' point of view annoying.  But I do like the story and believe that it is a great book series to be made into movies.  And Insurgent did not disappoint.  I really love how they adapt this series to film, how we get to see a bit more of everyone and a little less of Tris' self pity.  In the movie Tris is displayed in a real way.  We get to see her grieving for lost loved ones and for the life she is trying to lead in a realistic way.  We also get to see a lot more of Peter and Caleb and how their decisions effect the overall story.  Peter's character gives the comedy relief which is done very well actually makes you like him, even if you hate him at the same time.  Kate Winslet as Jeanine is perfect, and I loved how we did see her crack, even if I couldn't help hearing her Titanic voice calling for her Jack when she was calling out at one point :-)

Another great part about this movie is the introduction of the other factions we don't get to see in Divergent.  In Insurgent we get to see how Amity, Candor and the Factionless live and this is a great addition to the series.  I think they did an awesome job of showing us the different lifestyles the different factions lead, especially the Factionless who are a stark contrast to Amity where the movie starts.

A review of Insurgent would not be complete without mentioning the special effects.  They will blow your mind!  The sim scenes are just amazing and do a good job of tricking you into being not sure what is real and what is a sim.  They don't overpower the movie but give it the depth of the world that is needed.  I didn't see it in 3D or on a special screen, but if you get the chance to I would for sure.

The final test was asking my Miss12 who hasn't read the books, if she liked the movie.  She of course loved it!  If you're a fan of the books you will love it.  And if you are not a fan of the books or haven't read them you will still love it!

Intrigue abounds in this hotly anticipated sequel to The Kiss of Deception!

Held captive in the barbarian kingdom of Venda, Lia and Rafe have little chance of escape. Desperate to save her life, Lia's erstwhile assassin, Kaden, has told the Vendan Komizar that she has the gift, and the Komizar's interest in Lia is greater than anyone could have foreseen.

Meanwhile, nothing is straightforward: there's Rafe, who lied to Lia, but has sacrificed his freedom to protect her; Kaden, who meant to assassinate her but has now saved her life; and the Vendans, whom Lia always believed to be barbarians. Now that she lives amongst them, however, she realizes that may be far from the truth. Wrestling with her upbringing, her gift, and her sense of self, Lia must make powerful choices that will affect her country... and her own destiny.

I LOVED The Kiss of Deception, and I can not wait to read this sequel. This is going to be one fabulous read as the twist and turns continue to unravel. Talk about cover love, I absolutely love this cover.

Soon Clary is introduced to the world of the Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of warriors dedicated to driving demons out of our world and back to their own.
