History has a way of repeating itself. In the Sunken City that was once Paris, all who oppose the new revolution are being put to the blade. Except for those who disappear from their prison cells, a red-tipped rook feather left in their place. Is the mysterious Red Rook a savior of the innocent or a criminal?
Meanwhile, across the sea in the Commonwealth, Sophia Bellamy’s arranged marriage to the wealthy René Hasard is the last chance to save her family from ruin. But when the search for the Red Rook comes straight to her doorstep, Sophia discovers that her fiancé is not all he seems. Which is only fair, because neither is she.
As the Red Rook grows bolder and the stakes grow higher, Sophia and René find themselves locked in a tantalizing game of cat and mouse.

The Shadowhunters TV Series: Cassandra Clare Answers Questions About The Series

Cassandra Clare took to Tumblr yesterday to answer fan questions about the Shadowhunters TV series. I love that Cassie takes the time out of her crazy busy writing schedule to answer fans questions about the TV series, even though she has NO say or anything to do with the TV series. Believe me, if Cassie had any say with the TV series, there would be no worries as to how the TV series will be written, and featured. Here is the Q&A Cassie shared yesterday here

nephilimdaughteroftheangelraziel said: Hi Miss Clare! I just want to say that I am a dropdown fangirl of TMI/TIF etc, basically all your books! I just wanted to ask, have they started sign ups and auditions for Clary? B/c I mean now that we were all freaking out about Dom, we are probably even more anxious about who’s going to play the female role that helped all of us find out about the Shadow world. Thanks for the updates (most especially towards Dom! Aaah! *heart attack at age 14*)
If you follow McG’s twitter, (  )which I strongly suggest you do if you’re interested in Shadowhunter TV updates, they’re doing auditions for Clary this week. Which means it is unlikely we would find out who is cast until next week at the earliest.
Achinglove said: I really like Dom, he’s a great actor. But Cassie, please, tell me they’ll dye his hair blonde.
I’ve no idea. I’d ask McG, really, he might know, he’s the executive producer.  I don’t know about contacts either, and I won’t be the person making that decision.
For what it’s worth, I agree that dying his hair blond is the right idea. (I don’t actually agree about the contacts. I think they affect people’s acting and look weird. I think it has never mattered that Ian Somerhalder, on the Vampire Diaries, has blue eyes instead of black, or that Daniel Radcliffe didn’t have green eyes.) But I think that hair dye is such a small gesture toward faithfulness to source material that unless there’s a pressing reason not to do it, it ought to be done. I think it’s very hard to win over a fanbase if you don’t seem like you’re willing to go even that far. And Dominic is already blondish.

emk3rd said: Do you have any part in the making of the TMI TV show? Forgive me if this is a stupid question.
It’s not stupid. It’s complicated. I have no official role whatsoever in the making of the TV show. I am not a producer, or an executive producer. I am not a consultant. I am the person who wrote the source material the TV show is based on. They can consult me if they want to, and not consult me if they don’t want to. For how all this works, Ally Carter’s post on how movies happen also applies to TV.
a-sarcastic-cactus said: Hi, Cassie! Could you tell us if we’ll be able to view Shadowhunters in the UK when it airs?
I’m sorry, I have no idea. I don’t know how entertainment foreign rights work, especially not for TV. It’s a thing that doesn’t involve me even a little. When it’s picked up in the UK, you’ll hear about it from the media.
The film was perfect  what influenced me to buy your books (besides the story) was the actors jamie campbell and Lily. When I heard about the series I’d be more than happy, because I would be able to see jamie and lily and also be able to enter the world of shadows. But I heard recently that Jace will not be played by Jamie campell, then as a big fan and your target audience I ask you to continue with the film’s cast. Jamie campbell bower has to be Jace and Lily have to be Clary! This is a sincere request.
I believe you that you are sincere! And while I understand that you only heard this recently, it’s been public knowledge pretty much since they announced the TV show. People are reacting to it now because the casting of the TV show is actually happening.
This is not a recast. A recast would be if they were continuing the movies, but had decided to cast all new actors in the parts for City of Ashes. As far as everyone involved in making the film and the TV show are concerned, studio, network, production, everyone, the film and the show are two completely different franchises. They are different stories, the characters are characterized differently, they are being made by different people. They are going to look different and sound different. And as far as the people making this (who are not me) are concerned, asking them to cast the movie cast makes as much sense as asking them to cast the cast of Snowpiercer. It is just how this stuff works.
Casting is complicated. It is a mix of director’s visions and studio/network visions and availability and scheduling. If you think someone is the perfect and only person for a part, okay, but you do have to keep in mind that no one involved in making this thing is going to be moved by that. They spend too much time being involved in the practical realities of the business. If there was really only one actor for any part, ever, then movies and TV shows would stop being made: there would never be a big enough chance that the actor you hire is the Only Right One to make it worth it.
And I really hate having to be the one to explain this, because it makes it sound like this has something to do with me. It doesn’t. I have nothing to do with any of these decisions. I just have a background in entertainment business, is all. Look, you can not watch the TV show because you like the film cast, that’s your right, but it’s not a gesture of loyalty toward them any more than it’s a gesture of loyalty toward the cast of Snowpiercer for not all being cast in the TV show of Shadowhunters. It is, however, your decision!
