When Kate Thompson’s father is killed by the notorious Rose Riders for a mysterious journal that reveals the secret location of a gold mine, the eighteen-year-old disguises herself as a boy and takes to the gritty plains looking for answers and justice. What she finds are devious strangers, dust storms, and a pair of brothers who refuse to quit riding in her shadow. But as Kate gets closer to the secrets about her family, she gets closer to the truth about herself and must decide if there's room for love in a heart so full of hate.
In the spirit of True Grit, the cutthroat days of the Wild West come to life for a new generation.
This is my kind of book! Erin Bowman captured the heart of the Wild West and brought it to life with Vengeance Road. A gritty, action packed read with the right amount of romance that kept me up all night reading. I loved it! This book has everything I love about the Wild West. It was liking watching an old Western movie I watched as a kid with my father, brought to life. Only this was better!

Kate Thompson is one tough, fierce, women who's out for vengeance. Growing up in the West, Kate's not scared of anything. She's grown up tough, and knows how to take of herself. After all, she has grown up on in a place that's almost as unforgiving as she is. In Kate's quest for answers, and justice, she makes some surprising discoveries about herself, her family, and just may have lost her heart in the process.

Kate Thompson is just how I'd pictured a young women born and raised in the Wild West. She's tough as nails, fearless, fierce, and can handle her own. She's not someone whom backs down from a challenge. She's also a women who's on a mission to avenge her father's death, and get vengeance against those who took his life. The trouble is, they're the toughest outlaws in the West, and are ruthless. Whether she likes it or not, brothers Jesse and Will are there to help her.

Jesse isn't the type of man who backs down from a challenge. Kate is definitely a challenge. She may end up being his equal when it comes to stubbornness. Jesse is also a man of his word. Being that both he and Kate's late fathers had an agreement that if something were to happen to Kate's father, she'd be looked after. Now it's up to Jesse to look out for Kate, only she doesn't want the help. There's no deny it, there's something between the two of them. Whether Kate wants to admit it or not, Jesse is just the kind of guy who can tame her wild, heart.

Kate and Jesse have the kind of chemistry I love. It's a tug-o-war of emotion between these two for much of the book. Neither of them will admit they like each other, though it's painfully obvious to everyone around them, including the reader. Both characters are so stubborn it's comical. When the sparks finally fly, it's better than seeing fireworks. Let's just say their first kiss is totally worth the wait. Kate and Jesse have a chemistry that kept me hooked the entire time I spent reading this book. It's the kind that even after you finish reading the book, you want more of their story. I loved it.

Erin Bowman captured everything I love about the Wild West, and brought it to life in Vengeance Road. Her descriptive, harsh Arizona setting was easily imaginable. The dangers of the Wild West made for some action packed, heart pounding scenes. The Wild West romance was perfect! I loved every moment of this wild, crazy, thrilling read. You know you've read an awesome book when you get to the end want more! I loved it! This is definitely a book I'll be re-reading.

*There is some really mild language in the book, and it's what I'd except characters from the Wild West to say.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Erin grew up in rural Connecticut, where she spent most of her childhood telling stories. It is rumored that her first words were not "Mama" or "Dada," but "Once upon a time." In middle school, when kids were going off to sleep-away camp for the summer, Erin was attending writing camp and penning short stories.
She studied web design (and minored in Creative Writing because she couldn’t stay away from stories) at the Rochester Institute of Technology in upstate New York. After several years working in advertising and designing websites for various brands, she moved from Boston to New Hampshire, where she now lives with her family and writes full-time.
When not writing, Erin can often be found hiking, geeking out over good typography, and obsessing over all things Harry Potter. She drinks a lot of coffee, buys far too many books, and is not terribly skilled at writing about herself in the third person.
She is represented by Sara Crowe of Harvey Klinger, and is the author of the Taken Trilogy (available from HarperTeen) and Vengeance Road (HMH Books for Young Readers).
