Series: Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy #9

After a warlock baby is abandoned on the steps of the Academy, Magnus rescues the child – and brings him home to his boyfriend, Alec.

This standalone e-only short story follows the adventures of Simon Lewis, star of the #1 New York Times bestselling series The Mortal Instruments, as he trains to become a Shadowhunter. Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy features characters from Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments, Infernal Devices, and the upcoming Dark Artifices and Last Hours series. Born to Endless Night is written by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan.

I have been loving reading the Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy.  I will admit I love how they are short stories so you can read them in one sitting, even when in the middle of another book.  I am lucky enough that by living in Australia the NYC time zone release for most of Amazon's kindle books is 3pm in the afternoon for me.  So when a new book comes out like these short stories, I can read them that night in bed.  But the thing with this one is I read it to fast and I wanted more! The story in this book was by far my favourite so far, and that's big considering how big a TID fan I am and we got some of Will and Jem in the early stories.

This is going to be a hard review without spoilers, but I will say the fantastic thing about Born to Endless night was all the Magnus and Alec awesomeness.  There is more of Magnus and how he is post City of Heavenly fire.  And yes we got to see some lovely Malec scenes that will keep all the fans happy.  But the gold in this story is Alec.  Although a huge character in TMI I found he was one of the hardest to know what was going on inside his head.  Born to Endless night is a great extra and conclusion to Alec's story.  We get to read into Alec's life now and how he is influencing things in the Shadowhunter World.  Plus there is a fantastic conclusion to Alec and Magnus' story that will keep you smiling for days.  Don't worry you do get to see some of Simon too and even a bit of Jace misbehaving.

I am sad that this is the second one in this series.  I am going to miss Simon and his friends and I hope we see them again in The Dark Artifices
