From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes a riveting new story about friendship, survival, and finding your voice.

For some people, silence is a weapon.

For Mallory “Mouse” Dodge, it’s a shield.

Growing up, she learned that the best way to survive was to say nothing. And even though it’s been four years since her nightmare ended, she’s beginning to worry that the fear that holds her back will last a lifetime.

Now, after years of homeschooling with loving adoptive parents, Mallory must face a new milestone—spending her senior year at public high school. But of all the terrifying and exhilarating scenarios she’s imagined, there’s one she never dreamed of—that she’d run into Rider Stark, the friend and protector she hasn’t seen since childhood, on her very first day.

It doesn’t take long for Mallory to realize that the connection she shared with Rider never really faded. Yet the deeper their bond grows, the more it becomes apparent that she’s not the only one grappling with lingering scars from the past. And as she watches Rider’s life spiral out of control, Mallory must make a choice between staying silent and speaking out—for the people she loves, the life she wants, and the truths that need to be heard.

MY THOUGHTS

A story about hope, love, and survival, THE PROBLEM WITH FOREVER is another Armentrout masterpiece. This story is raw, and gritty. It's heartbreaking, and hopeful. In true Armentrout fashion, she doesn't shy away from the wide range of emotions that both characters and readers will feel reading Mallory's story.

Similar to that of Katie McGarry, Armentrout has this talent for bringing the gritty to life perfectly in her books. She doesn't shy away from the hard life that some of her characters live. She doesn't sugar coat what they endure at home, or on the streets, or any aspects of their life. I think part of that is what makes this story feel so real. She gives her readers real characters your heart breaks for, and you can't help but cheer on. She gives you characters you emotionally connect to, whether you have any similarities to them or not. These characters quickly become more than just people who are in the story. They become characters you care about.

I loved the way Armentrout allowed me to get to know Mallory, Rider, Jayden, Hector, and Ainsley. There's so much depth to each of them. It's hard not going into the specifics, but if I mention specifics, I'd be spoiling some of the story. These characters felt like real life characters. I really enjoyed getting to know them, and the roles they each play in this story. There's much more behind the shyness, and tough acts some these characters have.

I loved seeing Mallory over come her struggles to find her voice. I liked that Rider learns there's a difference between survival and surviving. I loved the elements of family, friendship, love, forgiveness, and hope that are apart of their story. Mallory and Rider's stories are at times heartbreaking. It might be hard for some to read what these two endure. What I admire about these two, is that while they might each be broken in their own way, they didn't allow the years of what they endured to break them. They are so much more than their past experiences. They are survivors, and fighters. They have hope, and that strength to not allow their pasts to define them or their futures. Their futures are theirs to own.

THE PROBLEM WITH FOREVER is a story that will leave it's mark on you. It's a gritty story with a realistic setting, raw emotions, and realistic characters. It's a story about HOPE and love. This is one of Armentrout's best YA books yet.

*This story does contain some language, abuse, and a sexual/sensual scene, that may not be suitable for younger readers.
