Welcome today's cover reveal and title reveal for CRYSTAL BLADE by Kathryn Purdie! I love that book title! Crystal Blade is the sequel to Kathryn's BURNING GLASS, which was released this past March. I love the cover for Burning Glass, but the cover for Crystal Blade is, just WOW! The cover matches the book title perfectly!

THIS COVER!
This cover is STUNNING! I absolutely love it! I don't know about you, but part of me wants to reach out and touch it. It's a very eye catching cover. I think the covers and book titles have completed each other beautifully. Check out both the series covers side by side:
BEAUTIFUL! I'll be honest, if I saw these books together at the bookstore, and knew nothing about them, I'd pick them up based on their covers alone. Cover love!

The peace is unsustainable.
Sonya and Anton may have brought about a revolution, but can they protect their homeland—and their love—with so many forces threatening to tear them apart?
The empire has fallen, Valko faces trial, and Sonya is finally free from her fate as Sovereign Auraseer. But Sonya's expanding abilities are just as unstable as the new government of Riaznin—and her relationship with Anton. Not only can she feel the emotions of others but, unlike other Auraseers, she's learned to make others feel her emotions as well. And Sonya isn't immune to dark temptations.
Now, as Sonya fights to contain her own darkness, she senses a new evil lurking in the shadows of the palace. Someone from Sonya's past has returned. And that someone won't be satisfied until Sonya pays for the mistakes she's made.
INTERVIEW WITH KATHRYN
I LOVE this cover! What was your first thought when you saw it?
I found the email I sent to my editor after I first saw this cover. I think my words then perfectly sum up my initial reaction:
!!!!!!!! I was up late revising and slept in and woke up to this cover and I AM SO IN LOVE!!!! I gasped and giggled and sighed and all the things. It is BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL!!! If you can’t tell, I am very happy!!!
Even though I love the cover for BURNING GLASS, I love the cover for CRYSTAL BLADE even more! The dagger with the crystal blade and the hilt with smaller crystals are gorgeous. Although this is a deadly weapon, I love that it has the look of jewelry. That helps it tie in with the sapphire necklace on the cover of BURNING GLASS. The two covers look amazing side by side. The stunning green color is really magical, different, and captures the eye.
I am always intrigued when it comes to the inspiration behind a book's title. Can you tell us a little bit about how you came up with your title?
My editor and I were originally going to use a title we later decided to reserve for book three in the trilogy, so it took awhile to come up with the perfect title for this second book. In the end, my editor came up with CRYSTAL BLADE, which I loved. The “blade” part of the title goes along with a lot of pivotal scenes in the book that involve daggers and knives. There is also an actual crystal dagger in the story. On a more symbolic note, Sonya has a dangerous power that can unintentionally hurt other people. She is a weapon in and of herself. Then there’s the “crystal” part of the title, which represents Sonya’s ability as an empath. She can see through to another person’s emotions, but it’s tricky to do, like light hitting a crystal and then refracting. The true source of someone’s aura is hard for Sonya to guess because she oftentimes doesn’t know if she feeling a certain way or if she’s only echoing someone else’s emotions.
What can fans except in this book?
CRYSTAL BLADE has a darker tone than BURNING GLASS. Sonya’s intentions are good, but she has developed a far greater power, so she’s trying to rein it in and not be tempted to use it impulsively and recklessly. The problem is Sonya is a naturally an impulsive and reckless person, so that results in lots of page-turning drama. And let’s not forget kissing. There’s some excellent kissing in this book! Readers will also get to know four minor characters from book one much better in this story, and Valko still has a major role in the book—Sonya isn’t free of him yet. That’s all I’ll say about that! ;-)
If you could sum up this book in 3 words, what would they be?
The tagline on the cover says it best: betrayal cuts deep.
