Before I share her list, here's a little bit about her new release. On a side note, I totally LOVE this book cover!

Henry Page has never been in love. He fancies himself a hopeless romantic, but the slo-mo, heart palpitating, can't-eat-can't-sleep kind of love that he's been hoping for just hasn't been in the cards for him—at least not yet. Instead, he's been happy to focus on his grades, on getting into a semi-decent college and finally becoming editor of his school newspaper. Then Grace Town walks into his first period class on the third Tuesday of senior year and he knows everything's about to change.

Grace isn't who Henry pictured as his dream girl—she walks with a cane, wears oversized boys' clothes, and rarely seems to shower. But when Grace and Henry are both chosen to edit the school paper, he quickly finds himself falling for her. It's obvious there's something broken about Grace, but it seems to make her even more beautiful to Henry, and he wants nothing more than to help her put the pieces back together again. And yet, this isn't your average story of boy meets girl. Krystal Sutherland's brilliant debut is equal parts wit and heartbreak, a potent reminder of the bittersweet bliss that is first love.

AUTHOR GUEST POST: Six of the Best Fandoms

1. Potterheads

For many, Harry Potter is the gateway fandom. You start as a casual user – maybe you write a little steamy Harry/Draco slash fiction – and the next thing you know you’re cosplaying as an obscure character from Videodrome at your local con and running your own fan site for Czech new wave films. Becoming a Potterhead is a journey down a fandom rabbit hole that will lead you to strange and fantastical places in the far reaches of the internet. Kind of like finding the Room of Requirement… except here you end up dressed as a character from Homestuck.

2. Nerdfighters

The philanthropists of the fandom world, Nerdfighters’ main life goal is to decrease worldsuck. The fandom sprung up around YouTube legends/real life awesome dudes John and Hank green in 2007, and since then they’ve gone on to become the third largest lenders to kiva.org, contributed to the massive annual Project for Awesome and even offered support to AFC Wimbledon on their journey to glory. DFTBA, kids.

3. Trekkies

The original fandom, before it was cool. Like, way before. “Trekkies” have been fangirling since the term was coined back in 1967 at the 25th World Science Fiction Convention. I mean, these guys wrote the book on fandoms: they wrote spicy fanfiction, mobbed their favourite actors, held fan cons, and even complained when an episode of Star Trek was cancelled to show the Apollo 11 moon landing. I mean, that… that is dedication right there.

4. SPNFamily

How could there not be a fandom around the two hottest/most adorable demon hunters on TV? Sam and Dean Winchester have been kicking ass, dying, getting trapped in hell, getting resurrected, and taking names for eleven years now. Along the way they met fandom staple Castiel, an absolutely babin’ angel, and together these the stunningly beautiful dudes became real life swoonworthy besties. Come for the cheekbones, stay for the bromance. Sigh.

5. Whovians

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Whether your Doctor is Nine, Ten, Eleven or Twelve (or one of the earlier ones, you filthy hipster), something all Whovians can agree on is that the prerequisite for joining = owning some form of TARDIS paraphernalia (key ring, T-shirt etc.) and fervently believing that your doctor is the best doctor. Even though everyone knows that Eleven is superior by far. Fish fingers and custard forever!

6. Sherlockians

What would a list of great fandoms be without the addition of Sherlock, the torture device invented by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, that likes to keep us waiting a year or five between seasons. Starring famous Hobbit Bilbo Freeman and beloved veteran actor Bentobox Curdledmilk, Sherlock tells the tale of two beautiful men who just need to make out already. What? That’s not the plot? Then what the hell have I been watching?! Seriously, I ship JohnLock though.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Krystal Sutherland was born and raised in Townsville, Australia, a place that has never experienced winter. Since then she's lived in Sydney, where she edited her university's student magazine; Amsterdam, where she worked as a foreign correspondent; and Hong Kong. Krystal has also interned at Bloomsbury Publishing and was shortlisted for the Queensland Young Writers Award. She has no pets and no children, but is fond of naming inanimate objects: in the Netherlands she owned a Dutch bicycle called Kim Kardashian, and a small, inflatable velociraptor called Herbert. Our Chemical Hearts is her debut novel.
