While traveling to Fren, Allyssa and Odar and hijacked by a ruthless assassin who divulges a stunning secret that changes everything.

Trying to come to terms with this newfound revelation, Allyssa is taken to Russek and delivered into the hands of a malicious and twisted royal family. She finds herself an unwilling pawn in a risky political game that will either end with her death or the annihilation of her beloved kingdom. Unsure of where the lies end and the truth begins, she must survive the brutal family and escape the fortified castle, all the while coming to grips with her feelings for Odar.

In a kingdom filled with darkness, Allyssa enters a game where one wrong move means death, secrets hide around each corner, and it will take every ounce of cunning she has to survive.

Jennifer Anne Davis proves once again that she is the queen of unpredictable story lines, shocking twists, plenty of action, and endings that leave you torn between wondering what just happened, and begging for the next book. This book
was not what I was excepting and I LOVED it!

This was definitely does not suffer from second book syndrome. It's an action packed sequel that had me hooked from the moment I started it, until I finished the last word. WHAT THE HECK did you just do to me Jennifer?! I feel like that I was on one heck of an emotional roller coaster, and now I don't know what to do with myself. I'm literally at a loss for what to write, because so much of what I want to say are spoilers. To keep this spoiler free let me just say this, WOW!

Cage of Darkness takes readers deeper into the various kingdoms. Loyalties are tested, war is breaking out, and Princes Allyssa will be tested in ways she never thought possible. She is literally one tough, resilient heroine. This princess is not some helpless girl who can't defend herself. She is a fighter. She's a soldier, a ruler, a friend, loyal, intelligent, and a character I greatly admired. She endures so much in this book.

There is a lot of action in this book. Some scenes are down right brutal. That helps paint the picture for reader, to understand just what kind of kingdom Russek is. It's ruthless, and down right brutal. No one is spared in this kingdom  Russek is raging war and out for revenge, but Allyssa is definitely not about to this kingdom make her be a pawn in their game.

For all the bad that happens, I loved the friendship that transpires between Allyssa and a certain character I won't name for the sake of spoilers. I loved that this was nothing more than just that, a friendship. There's no love triangle, thankfully, just a friendship with a character I was completely surprised by, and ended up loving as much as I love Allyssa. Don't worry, there is romance. Though I liked that it was more on the back burner, and inserted at all the right moments.

What an awesome, unpredictable, fast paced sequel. This book has it all. There's danger, betrayal, countless, plot twists you won't see coming, action, and a few unforgettable characters. My word, I once I started this book, there was no putting it down until I was done. Nothing that I predicted, happened. Usually I can figure things out, but not this time. I loved it! I don't even know what else to say, other than I think I need to go and re-read this book again. Like Cage of Deceit, this ending will leave you wishing book 3 was already out. I can not wait to pick it up!

Sixteen-year-old Allyssa appears to be the ideal princess of Emperion—she’s beautiful, elegant, and refined. She spends her days locked in a suffocating cage, otherwise known as the royal court. But at night, Allyssa uses her secret persona—that of a vigilante—to hunt down criminals and help her people firsthand.

Unfortunately, her nightly escapades will have to wait because the citizens of Emperion may need saving from something much bigger than common criminals. War is encroaching on their kingdom and in order to protect her people, Allyssa may have to sacrifice her heart. Forced to entertain an alliance through marriage with a handsome prince from a neighboring kingdom, she finds herself feeling even more stifled than before. To make matters worse, the prince has stuck his nosy squire, Jarvik, to watch her every move.

Jarvik is infuriating, bossy and unfortunately, the only person she can turn to when she unveils a heinous plot. Together, the unlikely pair will have to work together to stop an enemy that everyone thought was long gone, one with the power to destroy her family and the people of Emperion. Now the cage Allyssa so longed to break free from might just be the one thing she has to fight to keep intact. In order to save her kingdom, she will have to sacrifice her freedom, her heart, and maybe even her life.
