TODAY, WE STRIKE BACK.

WE SHOW TALON THAT WE WILL
NEVER ACCEPT THEIR NEW WORLD.
Ember Hill has learned a shocking truth about herself. With the Order of St. George destroyed, Ember, Riley and Garret journey to the Amazon jungle in search of one who might hold the key to take down the Elder Wyrm and Talon. If they can survive the encounter.

Meanwhile, Ember’s brother, Dante, will travel to China with a message for the last Eastern dragons: join Talon or die. With the stakes rising and the Elder Wyrm declaring war, time is running out for the rogues and any dragon not allied with Talon.

The final battle approaches. And if Talon is victorious, the world will burn.

A few years ago back in 2014 I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for the first book in this series, Talon, from MM Sophie who had seen Julie Kagawa at a book signing. I have loved all of Julie Kagawa's other books, her Iron Fey Series introduced me to the dark world of the fey, and her Blood of Eden series made me love vampires books again. So I was super excited to read Julie's new story that involved Dragon's. I read Talon and loved it, but it was a long time away from it's offical release later that year, then the follow up books came and I didn't get around to reading them. When I realised Inferno, the final book in the series was to be released this year, I decided I needed to catch up. I went back and read Talon again then went on to read the whole series in one go.

When I first heard about this series I was excited to read a book about Dragons. I was quick to realise it had a very modern feel to it, set in current times, these weren't dragons of old but modern smart corporate type dragons that ran an organisation called Talon. Their enemy were a group of humans, St George, who are basically the secret service, trained malitia fighters, trained to kill dragons and rid the world of them. Without giving too many spoilers away for the rest of the series, our main character is Ember, a young dragon who has always felt out of place in the Talon world. With the help of Riley a Rogue dragon, she decides to go Rogue from Talon too, while discovering she has feelings for Garret a solidier of St George, who was sent to hunt her down and kill her.

Told in the three points of few from Ember, Riley and Garret, we get an interesting perspective on what is happening. This final book is, as are all of the others before them, action packed. There is a scense that the end of the world is coming, and as the title suggests, if Talon's dragon's win the war the world will all go up in flames. Being the final of a 5 book series, all the players are present, and we are well aware of who is on the side of good and bad, but as the characters learn more about their past this now effects how the future will play out even after the last battle if fought.

I really loved this final chapter of the series. It has been such a fun series to read and I love how it all ended. I think it would be hard to write a long series that involves many action and battle scenes while keeping it fresh and exciting the whole way. Julie knows how to keep her readers engaged until the end and still wanting more. All the main players in this series are so different from each other but they fit together in this story so well. It becomes a great story about friendship and teamwork. About when the small join forces they too can become big and mighty together. How unlikely friendships can start a catalyst for change in the world. The themes of torrerance, acceptance and friendship with those different from us was not lost on me, and I think was a great underlying story, especially in the wold today.
